Oh, what fun we had. The variety on the menu made it hard to decide. I had the stuffed cabbage which was excellent. And the beef soup tasted just like mom's. The band was a nice surprise. Our server was perfect.

Our waiter, Danny, was fabulous. We got excellent service without feeling smothered. The special on the menu, which was duck, was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. I would highly recommend this restuarant.

The food here is delicious as are the Romanian wines on the wine list. Both, however, are outshone by the attentive service of the waitstaff and owner. All together, the dining experience cannot help but be wonderful!

Everything was amazing except the NOISE!! When we arrived at 9pm on a Saturday night it was quiet, candle-lit and romantic. By 10, my boyfriend and I couldn't hear each other talk, yell even. The "band" started, which consisted of a keyboard player and a man standing in the middle of the floor singing very loudly in Romanian (my guess anyway)into an even louder microphone, which was completely unneccessary as the room isn't that large and there were maybe two other parties in the entire place. That was the only thing we didn't thoroughly enjoy. The food, service and ambiance were perfect. Absolutely perfect! The lemon drop martinis were delish, after dinner flaming Brandy was mesmerizing. We had the flaming cheese, goulash, chicken thighs.

I expected some good Romanian bread from this place - we were offered stale 'Italianish' bread. Not a good start. The food was just okay. The goulash, which was supposedly made from short-rib was tough. The veal paprikash was sweet, I'm not sure why. After our disappointing appetizers and entrees, we didn't stay for dessert because we were convinced that it would not be worth the time or money. The only good dish of the evening was the house-smoked salmon served as an appetizer.

The beet soup was delicious and so was the vegetarian goulash and the desert crepes. The service was fine but since we were there on a quiet Tuesday evening it is hard to judge whether it is typical (only 2 parties in the whole restaurant at the time). Interesting music added to the experience. Would definitely go again.

The owner was in the restaurant when we were dining, and was exceptionally attentive. He made sure to come by several times throughout the night, making sure to provide insight into the top items to order. Was extremely friendly and made everyone there feel important for being there. Definitely a great experience.

The place was kind of empty, but as we walked in the owner was super happy to see us and welcomed us with a handshake and great big smile. He made the evening... checking-in on us, offering a free shot, and a free glass of wine at the end of our meal. Truly a joyful place.

If you have plenty of down time, this may be the place for you. Not enough staff at this establishment, so your wait will be a bit long, even when it's not a full house. I do think for the amount of time you spend waiting around, you should at least get a larger portion or just a phenomenal dish. None the less, the food is still good but not worth my drive to go out of the way for.

Branko the owner was absolutely a pleasure! He made sure we (as well as the other customers) were well taken care of. He went around a couple times to talk to everyone which you don't normally experience at other places. His staff was great too! The food was delicious and we'll be returning to try other dishes on te menu!!

  • What happened since Ashland
    OpenTable Diner Since 2003
    Dined on 7/8/2011
What happened since Ashland Avenue? This was a great Romanian restaurant. Now it is a mishmosh of unconnected items. Saganaki?!?!?! This isn't fusion, it's confusion. I will give kudos for the appetizers but 4 people had 4 different entrees and all sucked. Paprikash with little paprika and too much crean; goulash on gnocchi - enough said; a schnitzel of pork that looked like a frozen chicken pattie which tasted only of deep-fryer oil, rather than gently browned in a pan; the driest, over-cooked duck hindquarters in the world - like jerky. Branko was known for serving Romanian food, giant veal shanks, robust pork dishes. This food is a travesty. Short of servers. One old cook with no help. Screwed up wine list. Lousy cocktails. FORGET IT!!

We like this romanian restaurant. WE have been there on several occasions. Food was always great (my favorite - veal paprikac, their signature dish - stuffed chicken), very good romanian wine "Dracula's blood" at very reasonable price. good live music. good place for groups gathering and casual dining. Charming owner Branco gave us as a gift a bottle of wine. We like this place and would highly recommend it!

Love this restaurant for Eastern European cuisine that is just outstanding! Have been back a couple of times and it is always good. Their stuffed cabbages are the best I have ever had. The Romanian skirt steak is equally fabulous. If you haven't experienced Little Bucharest go immediately!
