A word from Little Bird
Little Bird, the bistro by the team behind Le Pigeon, is open from 11:30 to midnight during the week, and from 5 to midnight on the weekends. The food and ambiance are inspired by the bistros of Paris, but are Portland at heart. Little Bird features a great bar, and a large selection of wines with a focus on French, as well as a selection of local options.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent food! This is why you go and this is why you come back. The charcuterie bested Paley's Place and Higgins. What Portland does best."

  • "Although I love visiting France, I'm glad I don't live there because the food - especially the bread - is so good I'm sure I'd put on 100 pounds. Little Bird recalls the food of France - delicate and hearty by turns, beautiful presentation, deep flavors and aromas. The bread and butter alone is worth a visit!"

  • "I hadn't been there for dinner for a few years. The Chicken Fried Trout was a really nice surprise."

  • "I love the food here. I also am not a big fan of the communal table @ Le Pigeon, so we get to have a table to ourselves and a similar cuisine by the same owner. I wish there were more of the Le pigeon offerings like the tour d' France with dish & wine pairings here."

  • "Truly feels like a quaint Parisian neighborhood bistro. If not for dinner, go for a happy hour nosh. We did the latter which led to the former. For dinner, my wife and I had fresh raw oysters and fries for appetizers, shared the fresh salmon and gnocchi entrees and bon bons for dessert. Wines were paired perfectly off the recommendations from the menu. All in all, a very great dinning experience. Oh, and the service was professional and attentive."

  • "Food was excellent and diverse--and wait staff very knowledgeable with regards the menu. Will definitely return when in Portland."

  • "Celebrating a milestone birthday we had higher expectations. The zucchini avocado soup had strong bitter flavors, the chicken fried trout was over powered by mustard sauce that was drenched all over. The gnocchi and salmon were very good. The apricot blackberry gallete was tarT, the panacotta was very good. Timing of bringing out dishes was very slow."

  • "We were visitors to Portland from the East Coast and our dining experiences up to this one were extraordinary with tremendously friendly and knowledgable service and great food. The Little Bird was the exception. The food was OK. Nothing exceptional. We had lots of courses and 2 bottles of wine for a party of 3. Foie gras was very good. Cured tuna salad was very good. Oysters, very good. A cheese turnover (fried) not so good. Salmon special just OK. Rabbit was just OK. Service was bad. We had to ask to have our dishes cleared numbers of times. Wine was not poured even though the waiter would come by to check on us, but never once picked up the bottle to pour it. A disappointment all around."

  • "We had the tasting menu and really enjoyed all the courses--a crisp trout, sheep cheese gnocchi and cassoulet, plus a cheese course and a slightly gimmicky but very tasty dessert with, among other ingredients, peanut butter and marshmallow cream."

  • "Excellent service and incredible food. I couldn't ask for anything more."

  • "The charcuterie plate was amazing and made in house!!! The tuna appie was also amazing Must try when travelling to Portland. And a must come back for us :). Can't wait to try Le pigeon one day also"

  • "Eaten at little bird 4 times and every time my wife and I are happy to eat there The food is prepared creatively with a good deal of care, the service is wonderful and the ambience is NW relaxed"

  • "Heard all the hype so came here on a trip to Portland, we were lucky to get a reservation. Server was great and very attentive, my husband & I like slow meals, and she was almost too on top of it for us. We started with oysters, they were delicious. Next the goat cheese black garlic gnocchi, very different and heavy. Good flavor of gnocchi itself with the black garlic sauce, everything else overpowered the gnocchi. Then on to the burger, medium rare, this burger was great, but what was better was the fries. That would be my recommendation here:don't miss the fries. Last was the pork shoulder. Very good flavor of pork alone, little dry for a pork shoulder, but still good. Enjoyed our meal."

  • "My dad and I had trouble deciding what to order! We split an appetizer cheese plate and enjoyed trying a cow's milk, goat's milk, and sheep's milk cheese. The hazelnut crackers that came with the cheese plate were yummy. I ordered Sheep Cheese Turnovers with blistered green beans, onions, toasted hazelnuts, and a sherry-Dijon vinaigrette. It was delicious! We were too full for dessert, but I regret not ordering one anyway. :) The music seemed loud when we first arrived, but as more people came, I didn't noticed it as much. I enjoyed the creativity of the menu and excellence of the ingredients. I look forward to returning on another visit to Portland."

  • "We really love to eat out and appreciate great food and service. Little Bird is still #1! We started with a gnocchi dish on pea puree and black garlic butter . . . spectacular! For the main dish, my spouse had a crab salad sandwich and I had the burger. (I know . . . the burger again, yet this one really is among the best.) My spouse loved the sandwich (and I took a bite). The flavors really are distinct and do meld well. For dessert, we had the mint ice cream, which tasted just like fresh mint. Throughout the meal, the server and his colleagues were great!"

  • "Little Bird delivers. Excellent food with good options for vegetarians/ pescetarians, which was unexpected. Awesome flavors and textures, great service, fun space. What's not to love? We will definitely return."

  • "A most congenial atmosphere and superb food! Service is attentive and professional not intrusive and the special of the day are always "special!""

  • "Enjoyed a sumptous meal--perhaps the best cassoulet I've had (even though it was 97 degrees outside). My wife's scallop small plate was a cacophony of flavor. Our server was personable, welcoming and efficient--great service"

  • "We were looking forward to dining here as one of the highlights of our Portland trip, but what a complete disappointment. Service was horrible and slow. Took an hour just to get out appetizers. What was described as scallops ended up being a single, rubbery scallop. For $16. Really? Both the fois gras and the rabbit were over-cooked. Our server never bothered to explain any of the specials or options. The couple next to us who arrived 15-20 min. later were served before we were. If they were having difficulties in the kitchen, they should have informed us rather than making us wait so long for food that was merely passable."

  • "We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Little Bird. It was a nice little space. The service was excellent and the food great. We'll definite go back."

  • "If you like very salty food you will love LB. Four out of the five of us were under whelmed. My wife enjoyed her Pork shoulder. Nothing special here but the pretense or artful and tasty food. The best part of our experience was our service that was helpful and attentive."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "I like giving good reviews, but this time I just can't. Atmosphere: noisy, crowded (tables too close together) and décor a little dreary. Food: soup was lukewarm, entre bland, undercooked (pink chicken), and greasy. Desert okay. Server pleasant but seemed overwhelmed. We would have sent back the food, but the place was so noisy that we couldn't wait to leave. It's a rip-off."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Our entrees were well prepared and delicious. Also notable was the wait staff. We were waited on by three different waiters plus the hostess. You could see them scanning the tables as they walked by to take something away or to replenish your drink. Highly recommended!"

  • "Tucked in an unassuming block of 6th Ave. is Little Bird. This charming, cozy restaurant is always surprising me with its offering. Whether you want an inexpensive ham sandwich, or a three course meal, it satisfies. Who would have thought to pair butter lettuce with lamb neck and lentils?!"

  • "We have been before and always enjoy it. We came for the "new" burger that I saw online. A real treat, but missed the original Le Pigeon version."

  • "Little bird was very nice. I had gnocchi and pork, both were very nice. My husband had the smoked tuna loin and cassoulet. The tuna loin had one very hot pepper that kept him from finishing the peppers and the cassoulet took about 15 minutes to cool to an eatable temperature. Cassoulet seemed like it would have been a better winter dinner than a hot summer day. The ambiance was very nice. I was a little disappointed in the service - we ordered oysters that were never served. I presume the waitress just forgot since they were not on the bill either."

  • "Everything we had was absolutely delicious, especially the roast chicken with spaetzle and mushrooms for 2. The food is pricy, but the quality and presentation make it deserve its pricetag. This is a place for a special occasion dinner, although it would be fun to come for a cocktail and one of the interesting appetizers, which we did not try. The space is a tad noisy, but the decor is really interesting. I think I might prefer it to Le Pigeon! Also, though their corkage fee is $20, they will waive one corkage fee for each bottle of their wine that you purchase. So we brought 1 bottle of our own, bought one there, and paid no corkage fee! That's a really nice policy!"

  • "We went for a nice lunch, and were wildly impressed. I started with a potato fennel soup, that was magnificent. I also had the burger, which is among the best I have ever had. My spouse had a fried shrimp sandwich and now has a new favorite lunch! The service was absolutely superb!"

  • "Fabulous french cuisine is a restaurant that doesn't come with an attitude."

  • "Little Bird is just amazing We had a mid-week lunch, and although the place was hopping, did not feel at all rushed. Bone marrow appetizer was all we hoped for, and the smoked salmon entree was perhaps the best salmon I have ever eaten. If you can, just go!"
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "The food was all very good. We had several appetizers that were all delicious . Service was spot on."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience. Staff was friendly and helpful. The food presentation was fabulous and the taste was even better. Loved this restaurant and will definitely come back!"

  • "My husband liked his shrimp sandwich, although another shrimp would have been welcome. I had the salad with crispy egg, which I had looked forward to. I wasn't thrilled - I'd envisioned a light coating of bread crumbs but instead it was heavily breaded with something like a batter. I won't have it again. We will be back - and I will copy the carrot and pea salad on the shrimp sandwich."

  • "Went there for the first time on my girlfriends birthday, she likes french food and new places. Menu looked varied and good. Food was good, I proposed that night so food wasn't my main focus but it was great. Small enough to be intimate but still open and bright."

  • "The ambiance is a bit astute but ok. The food and service were great. A winner for foodies. P"

  • "It was an intimate occasion with old friends. Noisy, so that conversation needed to transcend the noise. The soup, salads, and main courses were sublime. All 4 of us had a different meal; each reported the same "wow." But the desserts were too exotic for our tastes... The wine was good, but not inexpensive."
