A word from Little Bird
Little Bird, the bistro by the team behind Le Pigeon, is open from 11:30 to midnight during the week, and from 5 to midnight on the weekends. The food and ambiance are inspired by the bistros of Paris, but are Portland at heart. Little Bird features a great bar, and a large selection of wines with a focus on French, as well as a selection of local options.

My friend and I went before the Symphony. We had 2 hours and said what time we needed to leave by. We both ordered the Bistro dinner. The wine selection was fabulous. The savory dinners simply amazing. The cheese and dessert were disappointing and the espresso was so bitter it was undrinkable. Unfortunately, we didn't get out desserts until 5 minutes after we were supposed to have left, so we did not have time to pass on this information. I'll give them another try, but I'll be more selective (and go else where for dessert).

Very small room with a balcony and tables so close together they have to pull them off the wall for you to get to a seat on the bench. Service was good but felt very rushed like they wanted you in and out to get to the next paying customers. Very noisy and hard to hold a conversation. Food was good but hard to fully enjoy when it's so loud and you're packed in like sardines. Would probably be a better experience with fewer tables.

The ambience of an old Portland building combined with a creative chef with an eye for detail and wait staff who are friendly, knowledgeable and readily available : what could go wrong!? We sat upstairs with a bird's eye view of the main dining floor and neither of us could resist the chicken fried trout. The charcuterie plate also was quite superb and more than enough for two to share. An ideal venue for a couple seeking a memorable dining experience.

This little bird is an informal, upscale, intimate little gem. Excellent and attentive service. Starters selection limited but good variety. Soup was tasty although over-salted. Entres - chanterelle popover and local caught salmon both outstanding. Desert menu unimaginitive. We settled for coconut ice and espresso as a refreshing end. Wine list is limited - adequate though uninspired. Room to improve and given the obvious talent it would be a shame for this little bird to not soar to its full potential.

My three-person office went to Little Bird for a birthday lunch. The freshly cut bread is served with high quality butter and sprinkled with salt. The bread and butter combo melts in your mouth! My boss and coworker ordered the prix fixe meal (with a complex pork dish that I can't recall) which they raved about. I ordered the crab roll, which contained surprisingly more crab meat than I anticipated. Unfortunately the crab mixture was a bit too salty, but flavorful nonetheless. My boss was blown away by the lime (with cherry swirl) sorbet. He said it was one of the best sorbets he has ever had. Don't skip dessert! Overall great experience, and great attentive service. It's a very lively and classy lunch choice.

The whole experience was so very Portland. The food was very good but the service by tattooed waitstaff was perfunctory at best. They had a foie gras tournade made with granola which we thought hilarious but did not order. We had salmon over peach which was incredible and so seasonal. Definitely would go again, and hope for a server who doesn't just whack food onto the table without a word.

We dined here based on our experience at Le Pigeon, but it was fairly disappointing. Our server was tired and somewhat annoyed with us when she walked up to the table. It was difficult to hear each other, and the food was just not tasty. I took home my leftovers so I would not offend the host, and I put in the compost at home.

And Little Bird was a good place to start! I enjoyed the soup of the day as a starter followed by the fish of the day which was a salmon. Both we tasty and fresh. Cooked as requested. My husband had the cassoulet which was a hearty portion. Our waitress was nice and fun/perky. Our only complaint was that our table for two was right up against another table for two well unless you consider the half wall/pole that ran between them, but really it made little difference because you felt you were sitting together and the other couple was not enjoying each other's company that night. I rated ambiance low for that reason.

Little Bird had been recommended by a friend in LA and did not disappoint. The food was superb and the wine selections quite good and very reasonably priced. The bar location, however, does not allow for much room and can be cramped, so there is not really a bar scene per se.

A gem for lunch and wish I could've been there for dinner. First lunch was so good had to return within the week. Friendly, professional service from the initial welcome to the final farewell. Menu online was augmented by a few specials - cuisine was a fantastic take on local ingredients using modern French techniques….superb outcome! Grilled compact wedge of butter leaf on lentils topped with tasty confit, beef tongue and egg terrine with heavenly crunchy tasty surrounds, cassoulet, crab sandwich, peanut-chocolate dessert, toasted coconut ice cream - all just top notch. Excellent wines by glass and bottle. Thank you from a very happy big-city out-of-towner.

Great ambience just like you would hope to find in a neighborhood Parisian restaurant. The sound of friendly conversation creates all the noise that's needed and the service is professional friendly and attentive. The food? Everything done just right, simple savory bistro style. It's a gem for Portland. On our brief visit we ate there twice!

I was so happy to have found Little Bird on open table! My meal was truly spectacular! I started off with an assortment of the daily oysters...both were super fresh and distinctly differently. My entree was the daily salmon special. Perfectly cooked, super fresh, and nice accompaniments! I followed an online suggestion and moved the foie gras to dessert. Great idea! Combined with super attentive service and a cozy, relaxing environment, this meal was a home run!

We were seated at a table that had a "divider" between it and an adjacent table. In reality, we were inches apart. While the food and service were terrific, trying to avoid overhearing our neighbors (one of whom had a raucous laugh and coughed in our direction) made for a stressful dinner. Ask for a table where you are seated closed to your dinner companion than to another diner. Otherwise, it's a gem.

Came on a Sunday evening and was disappointed by the unprofessional service that we got. Our server didn't smile once during her service and it seemed like she didn't want to work at all. With a scour on her face, she was unpleasant and would sometimes place the dishes loudly down on the table. To say the least, that ruined our experience and first time at Little Bird. The food was nothing special, and was not particularly worth the money we spent ($310) for 4 people. Though the salmon was nicely cooked, the meat in particular was way overseasoned. The portion size for the seafood was on the smaller side in lieu of the price. All I can say, it's a beautiful quaint restaurant, but we won't be back anytime soon.

It's nice for a date although we did see a couple of tables of 4 and 6 people. Food was in smaller portions that was artistically arranged, except for the cassoulet that was a big serving for one person. I did enjoy the meal but found the artistic arrangement of the food to be a bit fussy and not my style. Pleasant wait staff.

Interesting take on a French bistro but a little uneven for me. At the bar, I very much enjoyed my sheep cheese gnocchi appetizer and passion fruit pudding cake dessert. The main course, a cassoulet also on the tasting menu, not so much. The beans were still a bit crunchy and undercooked in my opinion, while the duck leg meat was dry and without much flavor of its own. The one piece of sausage was good but I never really identified the pork belly among the sea of al dente beans. Redeeming it was a nice flavor and a superb Madiran wine which was a nice suggested match from the tasting menu. I would like to come back and sample some of the other interesting choices but the cassoulet needs work to measure up to the rest of the offerings.

We ordered the Grilled Ribeye (for two) and it was well worth it. It was the biggest steak I ever saw, but it was cooked perfect. It probably could be for three or even four people. We had appetizers and drinks before dinner, so much food we had it boxed - but yet we ordered dessert and were not disappointed.

The Little Bird is cozy and welcoming, we thought as we entered, and every seat at the bar was filled and almost every table, so it's a popular destination. The dress was very casual for both customers and servers. Our entrees were hot and filling. The Washington State raw oysters, in particular, were outstanding and the cocktails were very good. As the meal progressed, we decided the experience, while not inexpensive, is about the small space and the attentive wait staff. I believe that the drinks were delivered by a designated server as they were finished by the bartender, rather than sit on the bar waiting for the table's waitperson. Now there's a no-brainer. We felt relaxed, comfortable, very well served, and enjoyed our meals.

Crab sandwich at $20 was unimpressive. Lots of crab meat but tasted like it was possibly canned? Anyway, it had so much mustard you couldn't taste the crab. We could not eat it. We told the server we didn't like it but we were charged anyway. Charcuterie plate was delicious however.

We ordered the gnocchi, the trout and the cod on special, which were all very good. The place is cute and quaint, not too noisy, but we were upstairs. The problem was our server, she seemed to be in a bad mood, was annoyed with questions about wine (sorry, not everyone is a connoisseur) and told us we cannot order the appetizer before we decide what entrees we wanted... Not once she asked how is everything. Filled water once and only for one person at the table. I would say, it was not a pleasant experience, even though the food was good. Her tip also reflected that.

We had an event that ended at 9:30 p.m., and made a 10 p.m. reservation here. We were glad we did. The place was packed, even at that hour. (It only began to thin out nearer to closing time.) We had the best oysters ever - ordered half a dozen, then ordered 3 more. The burger was divine (and after 10 p.m., the prices drop) as was the tuna loin. Wonderful meal!

We love Little Bird. That's why it was so disappointing this time. Food was way more complex than we remembered; too many things going on in the same plate. Everything from panko to mayo like toppings. Taste of rabbit could not be found under all of that. The fish was the same confusing cluster of conflicting flavors. Server was somewhat indifferent to our presence. I get nonchalance, but this was way too cool and not friendly at the table level. Please reboot.

So often we rush through work, life and even our food. Here, our server, Suzanne, stopped to converse, not retell. We were seated in the loft on the rail. Suzanne would stop by to check in and chat, she was always easy and polite with clever smile and a personality that made one feel at ease. Then came the food. If you had not already slowed down by now, the food demanded your attention and time. The burger and the lamb chop were amazing! Rich with favors familiar and new. We're spent the next several moments ooing and ahing over the flavors that dazzled our taste buds. Go, sit, sip and savor the Little Bird, it will not disappoint.
