Little BirdGreat dining experience...went there because I'd heard about it in Portland Monthly and it was associated w Le Pigeon. Service was amazing and knowledgeable, food was amazing and so were the cocktails. I'll definitely go back.
Great food and casual atmosphere.6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBefore the BalletWe went to Little Bird early before a ballet performance. We loved the atmosphere and the service. The food was excellent. We are trying to come up with excuses to go again soon!!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMTiny place with a great feel.I loved the size of the Little Bird. Feels like one walks through the door into a great discovery. Wall covered with mirror helps it feel more expansive without destroying the "little" of the Little Bird. The food was very good. Unique flavors combined in the Celery Root Soup - Lovely! Service was EXCELLENT. Someone at the table spilled coffee and they immediately and cheerfully replaced the table covering and settings. Made us feel like it was nothing. Would highly recommend making your reservation!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversaryWe had a great experience. Great ambience and interesting food.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for LunchService was quick and the burgers were perfectly done6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary worthyAmazing food, the tubular presentation of the trout artistic as well as very tasty, Shigoku oysters always a treat, snail pastry superb, wonderful salmon. Tightly packed tables made for wonderful sharing time with neighbors with lots of food talk. We chose entrees after seeing what couple to the left had, then couple to our right copied our choices. Very fun.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulousI will return again, fine French food....very well prepared duck (all parts)6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticThe food was fantastic, the service was friendly, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. In fact, we made sure to make a mental note to visit more often. It's on the pricy side, but the food is worth every cent, truly delicious. The restaurant itself is very cozy, a great space inside. Feels energetic enough to be stimulating, but not hectic and noisy. Great atmosphere.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe salad was excellent andThe salad was excellent and the Salmon was the best I have had in long time.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Date PlaceIt was a great setting and wonderful food. Our waitstaff person was the perfect balance of attentive and giving us all the time we wanted to spend at the restaurant beaming at each other.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSweetbreadsBest I have ever had rate number one! Better then Paley's or Heathman.
Geoff & Marcia Cooper6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable LunchThe chicken fried trout with mustard sauce and fried capers was served with butter lettuce in which too wrap bite sized pieces.
The presentation was lovely and the taste was out of this world!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI had a unique dish that II had a unique dish that I would rank as one of the best appetizers I've ever had. It was a smoked trout fondue, so yummy. Everything else was delicious also!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappoints!I have gone to Little Bird 4-5 times over the last year and have never been disappointed. This time my group had the 3 course lunch and it was amazing. The service is always great and the food very interesting and delicious! It is a little on the pricey side for lunch, but definitely worth it.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Favorite RestaurantHad another fabulous meal here. Started with the charcuterie board, which was just about a meal in itself. My wife had steak frites, which were filled with flavor. I had the duck, which was delicious. I hope these people always stay on their toes -- it's such a wonderful experience as a restaurant goer. Thank you!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter than sister restaurant. We Like this restaurant better than it sister restaurant. It has a nice space, and the food it was very tasty.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI think they're trying a littleI think they're trying a little too hard to be edgy. Some of the food was very good including the braised pork shoulder and the wonderful strawberry floating island. But the sous-vide duck was so rare, that the breast was difficult to chew and the leg was so raw you couldn't cut it. Nice of the restaurant to comp us a glass of dessert wine to compensate. Wish they had some 5-star-but-mainstream items on the menu.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMa slice of ParisReminded us of a bistro we went to with Parian friends. Enjoyed a shared salad with excellent egg & pork toppings. Our individual small plates were both very tasty, especially the sweet breads. Great bottle of white Rhone (just the by-the-glass pour) which was an excellent pairing for both dishes, as the waitress indicated it should be. Specially without being too much food.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for lunchI took a friend here for her birthday for lunch. It was our first time dining there. The service was outstanding and the food very gourmet french. I would definitely go there again.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive & DeliciousWe don't go here often enough. We started with the butter lettuce salad and a cream of garlic soup; both were very good. For entrees, we had the chicken fried trout and a pork shoulder with lentils. They were really tasty dishes, and we enjoyed the service.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst courses the bestIt is impossible to be critcal of any food at this amazing restaurant. However, in reflecting on my experience (which I have done a few times, with smiles, since my dinner 2 days ago), I would order only first courses the next time I go. They are a notch higher on the uniqueness scale, and ordering smaller dishes allows more variety. Would be happy to return again and again, as long as the budget supports it.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMgood downtown restaurantWe had a party of four and were only in Portland for a weekend, so we wanted to find something special. Little Bird can be a tough reservation to get, but it's worth it. The food and service were both top notch. We had oysters, mussles, and crab fondue, and all of it was great. We ate there as part of a "food crawl" of sorts, so we didn't try any of their entrees, but the trout and the hanger steak looked amazing. It is a couple blocks away from Clyde Commons, so if you can start there for drinks/snacks and then head over to Little Bird, it's a great combo in downtown Portland.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and beer listEverything was great at this restaurant. I would highly recommend it. My only complaint is that they don't allow you to sit at the bar to have a drink while waiting for a table. They only allow you to sit there if your are dining at the bar. They do allow you to drink in there waiting area while you wait though.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMalmost perfectEverything was perfect except for the grilled Ham and cheese. Two of our party got that and both were tough and over cooked. Everything else was absolutely amazing. My cod sandwich was perfect. And the desserts are not to be skipped.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLate night dinnerTook out of town guests to a late dinner. We had oysters on the half shell. They were very fresh. Several in the party ordered the burger. All were cooked to order and very tasty. We will be back.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were excellent,Food and service were excellent, highly recommend!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMmostly fantasticOverall, it was wonderful. But... the lettuce in the butter lettuce salad wasn't cold. Not something you think about until you are confronted with a room-temp salad.... blecch. Began wilting as I ate it, and just was not crisp or good. A real shame because it has all the components of a great salad, but ended up being a bummer for lack of proper refrigeration.
Also, the crab mille fuielle (sp?) was very good, but perhaps it could use a different name. It was more"fried egg roll" than flaky Napoleon-like pastry.
Spaghetti squash gratin was way better than it needed to be, or you'd ever expect. Completely delicious. The highlight of the meal.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst classService was impeccable. Best cassoulet of my life. Highly recommend Little Bird.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPetit Oiseau CharmantI took my wife there for our second wedding anniversary. We are both epicureans, always looking for something new and exquisite. We found it at little bird. The atmosphere is loud and bustling. The service is thoughtful, attentive, and ever-present. We were taken care of from the moment we entered to the complimentary glass of bubbly that the host served us upon hearing that it was our anniversary. The appetizers were, for the most part, artfully prepared French classics. The entrees were quite good and with larger portions than I had any right to expect. The true gem was the house take on a Havana cocktail. Prepare to be impressed. Not for quiet, romantic dinners, but still not to miss.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food & impeccable serviceI've been here several times and I have never been disappointed. The couple I went with this particular night had never been there and needless to say we were all had amazing meals! The bone marrow is one of my favorite dishes there and this night it was topped with calamari and chorizo..very tasty. They split the chicken fried trout and I had grouper, and they were each prepared perfectly. The deserts were also a not miss part of the dinner as well, especially the pot de creme! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantWe were very pleased with Little Bird overall!
We were seated right away upon arrival for our 6 pm reservation. The waitress came over told us about specials ordered our drinks and we were off and running. She came back upstairs and noticed her 5 lady friends and totally from that point on ignored us to take our dinner order.
They got their food and more drinks before she even took our order to which we waited a total of 50 minutes for our entrees after we got our starters.
When the food arrived we were totally pleased with our entrees except for the grouper special turned out to be disappointingly small and I left hungry even after having the dry rhubarb tart with ice cream.
We liked Little Bird4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service, priginal andGreat service, priginal and delicious cocktails. Fresh ingredients, generous portions.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was outstanding,The food was outstanding, probably the best dining experience we've had in Portland or anywhere else for that matter. The service was wonderful. The decor was excellent in keeping with the French bistro theme.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server helped us by suggestingOur server helped us by suggesting a wine that paired very nicely with cod, cassoulet and sweetbreads - not an easy feat. It was a delightful meal.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was great. HoweverThe service was great. However despite our reservation we were kind of squished between two tables and I felt particularly invaded by the couple on our right. It was our anniversary and te staff was very accommodating and even gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly. Food was delicious, but ambiance could have been improved.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit Sunday night beforeFirst visit Sunday night before seeing Prince at the Roseland. Amazing food. Our server, Alex, was amazing. Cocktails were perfect. We'll be back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe spent our wedding anniversaryWe spent our wedding anniversary there and loved it. The food was excellent and artfully presented, conceived and prepared by a true chef; one of the best fish dishes (the special) I've ever eaten, prepared in a way I've never had before . My husband's pork shoulder was also excellent. The staff was very friendly, and kindly accommodated a special seating need I had. The ambiance is very enjoyable, a good mix of lots of natural light, high ceilings, clean lines, and yet warm and cozy. There is a small second level that overlooks the lower one, that might be a little cozier. Make reservations, it is a very popular place and rightfully so. In a nutshell, Go!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was superb. We followedFood was superb. We followed recommendations and got the gnocchi appetizer and salads and they were delicious. Our dinner lasted almost 2 hours and we didn't feel rushed at all, though the waitstaff themselves were kept hopping the entire time. Definitely make a reservation!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved Little Bird! ItWe loved Little Bird! It was our first visit and we were not disappointed. We had a great table in the balcony overlooking the restaurant which was a much better table for two than the main floor where the tables for two are very close together.
The butter lettuce salad was outstanding and surprisingly large and my husband loved the sweetbread appetizer. The pace of the service was very nice, we never felt rushed but we did not wait overly long either. I had the fish special of black cod that was perfectly cooked and served with excellent spring vegetables. My husband had the hanger steak frites that he really enjoyed. The only off note was when the waiter suggested the most expensive glass of red wine on the menu.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMyour trout dish is alwaysyour trout dish is always the best. we have enjoyed it every time. keep it up.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful!Wow! What an incredible dining experience. Visiting from out of town, yet we felt right at home. The staff was accommodating and friendly. We would be back every chance we had if we lived here! Bravo!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDined at Little Bird for lunchDined at Little Bird for lunch with a colleague. Really enjoyed my burger - cooked perfectly, with the best salty fries. Atmosphere is posh, while maintaining a casual sensibility.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood french-inspired bistro...Good french-inspired bistro... from the simple baquette sandwich to the paté and soups... very nice. Feels like home.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and service wasGood food and service was good and friendly, tables are packed in so you feel like you are in a school of fish, but friendly fish.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWent on a wednesday night,Went on a wednesday night, and the resturant was very busy. But the staff was attentive and helpful, and the food was great.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMPossibly the best green salad everButter lettuce salad and ricotta gnocchi were superb. Service was perfect, once we got past the slightly deer-in-headlights greeter at the door. We were there for lunch, and are looking forward to going back for dinner.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMRepeat visit as great as first timeLovely food......and gracious service. Special consideration from chef who gave us handwritten recipe when we asked about a certain delicious dressing. Love dining here.....this was our 3rd time.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSnail tortellini and cassouletSnail tortellini and cassoulet were outstanding.
Service was very friendly, but distracted. Our server forgot our drink order. Wrong dessert was delivered to our table. After waiting five minutes to try and flag down our server we gave up and enjoyed the dessert that was delivered. Minor gripes - we would be very happy to dine again at Little Bird.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of three had a wonderfulOur group of three had a wonderful dinner. Enjoyed the pork shoulder, chicken-fried trout and black cod special. Side of mac gratin rich and tasty! Excellent fries. Small touches like maldon sea salt sprinkled on the butter for the bread and the mini macarons that come with l'addition made for a great evening. Staff brought a sample of beer for husband when trying to decide.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro BlissStill my favorite Paris-via-PDX culinary fix! ADORE Little Bird...4/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
