Little BirdLate night dinnerTook out of town guests to a late dinner. We had oysters on the half shell. They were very fresh. Several in the party ordered the burger. All were cooked to order and very tasty. We will be back.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were excellent,Food and service were excellent, highly recommend!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMmostly fantasticOverall, it was wonderful. But... the lettuce in the butter lettuce salad wasn't cold. Not something you think about until you are confronted with a room-temp salad.... blecch. Began wilting as I ate it, and just was not crisp or good. A real shame because it has all the components of a great salad, but ended up being a bummer for lack of proper refrigeration.
Also, the crab mille fuielle (sp?) was very good, but perhaps it could use a different name. It was more"fried egg roll" than flaky Napoleon-like pastry.
Spaghetti squash gratin was way better than it needed to be, or you'd ever expect. Completely delicious. The highlight of the meal.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst classService was impeccable. Best cassoulet of my life. Highly recommend Little Bird.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPetit Oiseau CharmantI took my wife there for our second wedding anniversary. We are both epicureans, always looking for something new and exquisite. We found it at little bird. The atmosphere is loud and bustling. The service is thoughtful, attentive, and ever-present. We were taken care of from the moment we entered to the complimentary glass of bubbly that the host served us upon hearing that it was our anniversary. The appetizers were, for the most part, artfully prepared French classics. The entrees were quite good and with larger portions than I had any right to expect. The true gem was the house take on a Havana cocktail. Prepare to be impressed. Not for quiet, romantic dinners, but still not to miss.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food & impeccable serviceI've been here several times and I have never been disappointed. The couple I went with this particular night had never been there and needless to say we were all had amazing meals! The bone marrow is one of my favorite dishes there and this night it was topped with calamari and chorizo..very tasty. They split the chicken fried trout and I had grouper, and they were each prepared perfectly. The deserts were also a not miss part of the dinner as well, especially the pot de creme! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantWe were very pleased with Little Bird overall!
We were seated right away upon arrival for our 6 pm reservation. The waitress came over told us about specials ordered our drinks and we were off and running. She came back upstairs and noticed her 5 lady friends and totally from that point on ignored us to take our dinner order.
They got their food and more drinks before she even took our order to which we waited a total of 50 minutes for our entrees after we got our starters.
When the food arrived we were totally pleased with our entrees except for the grouper special turned out to be disappointingly small and I left hungry even after having the dry rhubarb tart with ice cream.
We liked Little Bird4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service, priginal andGreat service, priginal and delicious cocktails. Fresh ingredients, generous portions.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was outstanding,The food was outstanding, probably the best dining experience we've had in Portland or anywhere else for that matter. The service was wonderful. The decor was excellent in keeping with the French bistro theme.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good (rustic French)Very good (rustic French) food, good service, nice atmosphere. However, the prices and portions tend toward the unreasonable. My hanger steak was somewhat tough—to be expected, perhaps, with hanger steak—though the sauce and accompaniments (I had carrots instead of the standard frites) made the dish great. The portion was relatively small—fine by me—but the portion and steak quality did not match the high $20s price. My wife's fish (grouper, special that night) was excellent, but the tiny portion was almost lost on the large plate and the high $20s price was absurd for that dish. A lower price and some tasty rice would have made the experience a lot more palatable. These flaws are easily remedied, but will they be?4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server helped us by suggestingOur server helped us by suggesting a wine that paired very nicely with cod, cassoulet and sweetbreads - not an easy feat. It was a delightful meal.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit Sunday night beforeFirst visit Sunday night before seeing Prince at the Roseland. Amazing food. Our server, Alex, was amazing. Cocktails were perfect. We'll be back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe spent our wedding anniversaryWe spent our wedding anniversary there and loved it. The food was excellent and artfully presented, conceived and prepared by a true chef; one of the best fish dishes (the special) I've ever eaten, prepared in a way I've never had before . My husband's pork shoulder was also excellent. The staff was very friendly, and kindly accommodated a special seating need I had. The ambiance is very enjoyable, a good mix of lots of natural light, high ceilings, clean lines, and yet warm and cozy. There is a small second level that overlooks the lower one, that might be a little cozier. Make reservations, it is a very popular place and rightfully so. In a nutshell, Go!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was superb. We followedFood was superb. We followed recommendations and got the gnocchi appetizer and salads and they were delicious. Our dinner lasted almost 2 hours and we didn't feel rushed at all, though the waitstaff themselves were kept hopping the entire time. Definitely make a reservation!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved Little Bird! ItWe loved Little Bird! It was our first visit and we were not disappointed. We had a great table in the balcony overlooking the restaurant which was a much better table for two than the main floor where the tables for two are very close together.
The butter lettuce salad was outstanding and surprisingly large and my husband loved the sweetbread appetizer. The pace of the service was very nice, we never felt rushed but we did not wait overly long either. I had the fish special of black cod that was perfectly cooked and served with excellent spring vegetables. My husband had the hanger steak frites that he really enjoyed. The only off note was when the waiter suggested the most expensive glass of red wine on the menu.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMyour trout dish is alwaysyour trout dish is always the best. we have enjoyed it every time. keep it up.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful!Wow! Bravo!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDined at Little Bird for lunchDined at Little Bird for lunch with a colleague. Really enjoyed my burger - cooked perfectly, with the best salty fries. Atmosphere is posh, while maintaining a casual sensibility.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood french-inspired bistro...Good french-inspired bistro... from the simple baquette sandwich to the paté and soups... very nice. Feels like home.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMPossibly the best green salad everButter lettuce salad and ricotta gnocchi were superb. Service was perfect, once we got past the slightly deer-in-headlights greeter at the door. We were there for lunch, and are looking forward to going back for dinner.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMRepeat visit as great as first timeLovely food......and gracious service. Special consideration from chef who gave us handwritten recipe when we asked about a certain delicious dressing. Love dining here.....this was our 3rd time.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSnail tortellini and cassouletSnail tortellini and cassoulet were outstanding.
Service was very friendly, but distracted. Our server forgot our drink order. Wrong dessert was delivered to our table. After waiting five minutes to try and flag down our server we gave up and enjoyed the dessert that was delivered. Minor gripes - we would be very happy to dine again at Little Bird.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent setting in a covetedExcellent setting in a coveted old storefront with tin ceiling and a little balcony where we ate and people-watched those below, I had a very nice appetizer of duck ham on French toast, but my wife's "Dungeness crab Mille-Feuille" was a single small egg roll with little crab inside for $16. I had the night's fish special, which was very nice, and my wife had the ham baguette, which was, well, a good ham sandwich. I had a nice sorbet for dessert but the otherwise fine waiter forgot my wife's order of profiteroles (he said he never heard her order it but I know I did. Not her lucky night. In the end, the waiter comped my dessert and sent my wife off with a small gift box of truffles, which she definitely enjoyed.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of three had a wonderfulOur group of three had a wonderful dinner. Enjoyed the pork shoulder, chicken-fried trout and black cod special. Side of mac gratin rich and tasty! Excellent fries. Small touches like maldon sea salt sprinkled on the butter for the bread and the mini macarons that come with l'addition made for a great evening. Staff brought a sample of beer for husband when trying to decide.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro BlissStill my favorite Paris-via-PDX culinary fix! ADORE Little Bird...4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciously rich food! MyDeliciously rich food! My husband had the burger and said it was the best he's ever had.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMYou Must Try Little Bird! The best food we have eaten in Portland, hands down! The best service, too, by Nikki. Everything but for the loud and way too cool music surpassed our expectations. Note: Loud music is okay (maybe) if it's more background music--most of it wasn't. We are an older group so I know that is part of the equation.
Not sure how a restaurant can turn out such amazing food but it sure did.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service and servers wereThe service and servers were spot on with timing, details and weren't a bother. The food is fantastic and the ambiance is cozy and romantic. I love the bird theme and there's cute little birds throughout. Soup of the day is always in order for them...the parsnip soup this week was very remarkable to them. Also, I noted one of the guests has celiac and needed to dine gluten free. Our waitress was on top of her game...was very well informed on the dinning choices. Little Bird left them with a very fond spot for Portland's dining experience. Its rare in this city to have such personal and yet awesome service. The menu was devine. We ate all of my favorite things you can't find easily: escargo, marrow bones, livers and sweetbreads. Might not be everyones cup of tea, but I have rarely if ever had them done better! The dessert had gruyere ice cream that made us swoon. Thank you little bird!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI have eaten at Little BirdI have eaten at Little Bird many times, both lunch and dinner. It always pleases. I requested a table by the window on this visit when I booked through Open Table. That's where we were seated and it made the experience even better. We'll be back again soon.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is fabulous. RecommendThe food is fabulous. Recommend a appetizer course with friends or loved one so you can share the experience and have a night of fun conversation about the sensorial experience. A treasure in a secluded location. For people watching, romance, and energy sky upstairs overlooking the restaurant. Staff is was wonderful, friendly and offer great recommendations from food to wine pairing. A Rose with eggplant soup and grape relish, snail tortellini, octopus torreine offered a warm and sensory satisfying evening. To finish a Monbazillac, Château La Haut Borie, ‘09, Bordeaux was recommended with the Meyer lemon creme brûlée offered a perfect ending to the evening. The beef tri-tip was abolustely delightful.3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPortland's best restaurantPortland's best restaurant. I can't give it 5 stars, because it's not quite up to the par of a Michelin-starred restaurant, there's no tasting menu, the menu doesn't change often, etc., but this is a fantastic restaurant. The dishes are spot-on, the atmosphere is open and cozy, and the service is timely and informed. You can't go wrong at Little Bird.2/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best restaurant in Portland,The best restaurant in Portland, and there are A LOT of good restaurants in Portland.
