  • "the drinks, absinthe ( yes, they can make one!) we had two each with appetizers which were great- we had the coconut shrimp , 4 shrimp with a nice mango salsa 9.95, and the crab cake with micro greens , i nice size cake, 8.99. with dinner had a moderate priced bottle of wine 49.95 and the filet, 8 oz. cooked perfectly with potato croquette and asparagus. 28.00, and lamb chops, 3 chops with potato puree 31.00. expresso and dessert ,which was 2 chocolate lava cakes . total bill was 182.00 but well worth it for a nice evening out in downtown houston. they have valet parking, 6.00 or you can just find a spot on the street which is free after 6 pm."

  • "It is not often that you find a magnificent location, with a young smart staff and a menu full of extraordinary quality of food. Since you get there, the hostess takes care of you flawlessly; and don't' expect him to disengage as 99% of hostesses do, if he sees that you need something throughout the meal, he will be helping you right away. The ambiance is second to none, whoever decorated this hotel lobby-ish restaurant, they knew very well what they were doing. Layout of tables is flawless, you feel welcome, comfortable and at the same time private and always taken care of. Tim, server tonight, did an amazing job, proper of the top restaurants in the city, if not the country. If I had more space, I would tell you so much .."

  • "Good food, very slow service . Painfully slow. I had the stuffed chiles and they were delicious . My husband had the filet mignon and that was also very good. Cheese plate and crab cakes were also very good. Delicious cucumber and tomato salad. One annoying fact: They say they validate your parking at the restaurant for the valet, but then the valet told us it only covers half the fee. We still had to pay $6 . Oh well, still enjoyed it."

  • "We both tried the filet and both of ours were pretty good But we just couldn't get over the fact that we never even had a waiter. The manager came around asking how things were and that's who ended up taking our order. It was pretty bizarre."

  • "This looks like a restaurant bar/dining area of a cheap hotel. This was definitely NOT what my husband and I were expecting. Hotel Icon is a nice hotel, but this restaurant does not reflect that. My husband and I were very overdressed and we simply had on dressy business attire. We were seated right next to a wall and the place was far from full. We waited for a serves for at least ten minutes before getting up and walking out."

  • "What a diamond in the rough! We always enjoy a romantic getaway at the Hotel Icon (an oldtime, downtown renovated bank) and this invariably includes a delicious meal at the Line & Lariat! High-backed compfy chairs in secluded pockets surrounding the central bar create ambience and romance. The service is swift and unobtrusive, initially and throughout the meal. Excellent wine/cocktail options and a varied menu create anticipation that consistently satisfies. We can't wait to return; just being at the Hotel Icon is a special occasion!"

  • "Service was very amateurish. Waiter brought out small champagne flutes for our bottle of red wine. Then replaced them with tiny wine glasses. Noticed later that a different waiter brought proper size glasses to the table next to us. Scallops were good but fish was totally over cooked. My wife's filet mignon was cooked to medium but it was without any juice/moisture. Both came with a pile of greenery on top that made for a complete lack of presentation. This is all too bad because it is a nice room. The bar seemed to be having fun."

  • "This place definitely needs some improvement. The hotel is gorgeous but the restaurant lacks quite a bit. The appetizers tasted like they were straight out of the freezer; especially the coconut shrimp. The main courses were fairly decent but the desserts were terrible! We had a party of 4 and nobody enjoyed their desserts. We were told numerous times that they were updating the menu so hopefully they'll have some improvements made soon! Our waiter was quick and friendly."

  • "Great food- Loved my scallop appetizer; they melted in my mouth. Filet was cooked perfectly medium rare. Desserts could use a bit of an overhaul; not horrible, but not great either. Beautiful interior of an old 1920's bank with huge high ceilings and the original bank vault. Servers could use a bit more training but they were courteous and always available."

  • "We came here on a whim. It was close to where we were in Downtown. The food was okay. They seemed to be trying to hard with the menu. The prices for the mains were just too much for what they were offering. We ended up with 4 appetizers to share. The quail was alright but the "salad" that went with it was just odd. The shrimp was good but the relish wasn't very complementary. We enjoyed the scallops and the Mini Campechana. The restaurant itself was nearly empty and the clientele looked like they were guests of the hotel. I would only recommend going here if you're in the area and can't find a table elsewhere."

  • "I was looking for a place downtown to dine before going to a performance at Hobby Theater. Line & Lariat was a good pick and they even offered shuttle service to/from the venue when we parked in valet parking. The menu was good for a variety of tastes. The only miss was a tuna tartar small plate. The tuna was cut into tiny cubes which closely resembled a canned cat food. I'm confident the chef will have that one shaped up in no time! "

  • "Husband and I had dinner here prior to attending an HGO performance. We were seated in the gorgeous dining room early at 5:30 p.m. Our server was polite, but poorly trained, as in we had to suggest the wine list to him, etc. Our $7 artisinal local cheese platter was mild - all 3 cheeses seemed to be of the same taste profile and our server did not identify them - this dish was on special for Saturday night. I wouldn't want to pay the full fare of $12 for it. Our entrees were mixed: my gulf snapper dish was delicious, while Husband had the scallops. He felt they were good, but overall the dish needed more seasoning. Dessert was lovely - I had strawberry shortcake and Husband had the pear tart. Overall, good, but not great."

Very pleasant staff, efficient lunch service, and the food was good. Not a huge selection .. But everything we got was well done.   • "My husband and I had a holiday all to ourselves and thought we would drive to Houston to the theater. We had the best time. The food was wonderful and the service was outstanding. Everyone was so friendly. The prime rib was perfect as was everything else. We will be back and recommend it to our friends!"

  • "The ambience was lovely and very comfortable.The noise level was just right for a group of five adults.The food was excellent and there was a very nice selection. We were not crammed beside another table as so often happens on holidays. My only two complaints are that 1. The omelet/ waffle bar was so busy that some in our party never got theirs (seemed inefficient and maybe understaffed)and 2. It was very expensive. I have been to a lot of brunches that were comparable in selection and quality and this was probably $15 to $20 more expensive. (I guess we were paying for that elbow room.)You also had to pay to valet park,another $10 or $15 dollars. I was late making reservations so I had to take what I could get but we did have a lovely time."

The dress ranged anywhere from very casual to very formal and everyone seemed quite comfortable in the elegant dining room. We really enjoyed it!"

  • "There were 2 other tables with people. This was 6:30 on a Friday night. The food was mediocre and nothing special. The waiter only had our table so he hovered next to it during the entire meal. He was almost impossible to understand due to a heavy Asian accent. Ona a side note, the upstairs bar was closed for a private affair and seemed to be a lot of fun!"

  • "We purchased a Travelzoo Coupon and enjoyed the food, the service of the main waiter was not very good. but the assistant waiter was excellent. The waiter could not speak english very well and was very hard to understand, We presented him with the travel zoo coupon We ordered exactly what was on the Travel zoo coupon, at the end of the dinner we were presented with an 80+ dollar check which we perceived was the full amount of what the dinner what cost, so we left a moderate tip and left for the Valet to receive our car. Another waitress ran after us saying we did not pay the bill which was embarrassing for there were other patrons around, we told her we gave the coupon to our waiter and since we prepaid for it, the Bill was taken care of."

  • "We went for an early Saturday dinner before a concert downtown. The food and the restaurant were awesome, our waitress, not so much. We waited for about 15 minutes until she came to our table. Meanwhile another waiter had been back to his table 2 times. We ordered a bottle of wine and also said that we were ready for our food order. She told us to hold on. She was gone for another 10 minutes. We saw her carrying our wine bottle around to other tables before she made it our way. She poured our first glass, way over what a normal glass of white should be. Then she left to find an ice bucket still not taking our food order. We finally got our food but we managed to miss almost the entire opening act. But the food was good!"

  • "Went on a Monday with my boyfriend for dinner. We shared the Mini Campechana. It was very good and fresh. I ordered the pan seared scallops. I was impressed with the size of the scallops and grilled to perfection. Great combination with the Texmati rice and mushrooms. My boyfriend ordered the rack of lamb. Delish! For dessert we ordered the dark chocolate cupcake. I was not impressed with this. But I did like how they wrote Happy Birthday on the plate (I briefly mentioned earlier that it was my boyfriend's birthday). Great detail. The service was excellent. I was extremely pleased and my boyfriend had a wonderful birthday dinner."

  • "Affter much deliberation, this was a last minute switch based reviews spouted great acclaim upon this restaurant. And they DEFINITELY delivered. Wait staff was very attentive. Ambiance and decor was very nice. Food was AMAZING and out of the world. The cerviche is a must have; I'll go back just for that. The lamb chops, even well done as my wife requested, was too good for me to not assist her eating --great aroma, great taste, nice light char. And my pan seared scallops with some sort of creamy rice with mushrooms was unique and very, very tasty. I couldn't have been more pleased. For dessert,, the Gingerbead pig (cookie) with ice cream was good. Bu I'll try another dessert next time. As you can tell, we can't wait to go back"

  • "The service was a bit disconnected - three people seemed to be managing us, with very little communication amongst themselves. It was a very big night in downtown Houston with the Eagles Concert and other Art Performances occurring. No one ever asked if we were on a time limit. I had also indicated that it was our 10th anniversary when making the reservation, but that seemed to go unnoticed. My food was mediocre at best, but my husband did enjoy his steak and said it made up for the lower level hotel experience we were having."
