Diner Reviews
  • "3 family members sharing a number of appetizers, entrees and sides and very happy with the results. Several somewhat adventurous choices: bone marrow, lamb neck, octopus. Also nice sides of onion rings and brussel sprouts. All done very well and delicious. Nice wine selection and drinks as well "

  • "Wonderfully creative comfort foods, deliciously prepared and beautifully served. This was my second dinner experience at Lincoln and both times the food has been exciting, and even educational! I'd never had farrotto -- a risotto made with wheat farro. it was a tasty discovery, with nettles, mushrooms and duck egg. And lamb neck? What a daring move to make this a dinner special, but what a satisfying choice it was! New ingredients in very accessible, pleasing dishes."

  • "This is my first visit to Lincoln but I will be back! I met the chef, Jenn Louis in Arizona where she did a cooking class for a group. Her food is exquisite. Everything is seasoned perfectly and the portion sizes are just right. You can enjoy several courses and not feel overstuffed. The chocolate dessert with the carmel and sea salt is to die for."

  • "Lincoln has very good, but small portions for the price. They don't expect children as there is no kids' menu; the regular menu is pretty expensive for children."

  • "We love Lincoln, consistently great food, and warm engaging service. It is equally good for a special occasion, or an evening out after a long work day."

  • "Amazing pretty much sums everything up: Staff were willing and able to accommodate a last minute addition to our reservation, gave amazing service to our party of 6, were attentive to our needs, made suggestions and answered all of our questions and the food was absolutely AMAZING! So glad we chose Lincoln as part of our Portland "Foodie" trip!"

  • "good taste that weren't all the same. Onion rings classified as vegetables which really helps not feel guilty."

  • "The food--I actually ended up with meatballs and bucatini (spaghetti with the hole in the middle--yummy) and it was outstanding and husband had the steak and beef tongue--also outstanding. Drinks were good (seriously, Portland, what's with Bombay Safire when you don't have Bombay Gin which is better!!!), upbeat place (fabulous light fixtures) and really fine service. Only complaint was a limited selection for those who do not eat pork. I do recommend this restaurant."

  • "We went there for dinner on Friday night and was able to find a table on OpenTable on short notice, but it didn't look like there was much of a walk-in wait. This restaurant is a little ways from the Rose Quarter and Alberta scenes, so maybe that's why it's so easy to get in. Don't let that fool you though. The creative bartender, attentive wait staff, and ambitious chef are all top-notch. They're positioned perfectly to stop by on your way north from downtown and not hard to get to for folks like us who live in Vancouver. Definitely recommended."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal here. The food is flawlessly executed, and every bite is packed with flavors and textures that surprise and delight. If you're from out of town, be sure to ask for their print-out of area recommendations."

  • "We were looking for a new place to celebrate our 25th anniversary. A friend recommended Lincoln so we decided to try it. We are so glad we did. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the host who wished us happy anniversary. After being seated, Giovanni brought us glasses of champagne. This was the start of a great meal. Giovanni was very helpful with the wine and food selections and gave us great advise on the menu items. We tried many new things that we never would have thought to have had the opportunity to eat. Everything from the Salmon Tar Tar with sweetbreads, to the rabbit main coarse. Delicious from beginning to end. We would definitely return. Thanks Giovanni and Lincoln staff for a great night!"

  • "Found it kind of cold. Pasta undercooked, salad unsubstantial. Appreciated being able to hear conversation, but otherwise underwhelmed"

  • "Lovely booth in the back of the restaurant made a cozy foursome comfortable and away from the bustle and pretty high powered music. The speciality cocktails were interesting, not too many choices to overwhelm. Loved the cornmeal onion rings; a great starter and plenty for four to share. We spent four hours there and our waiter was very attentive but not hovering. Not too vegetarian friendly though they are very willing to accommodate. The entree menu is small -- five meat/fish options. Will go again."

  • "All-in-all a nice experience... starting with an interesting warm honey/nut mix that accompanied the bread, a Pisarei e faso that was to die for and very tasty selection of entrees. The only negative was the long lag time between the appetizers and entrees. Other than that, this place is a winner."

  • "Enjoyed Portland dining month $29 dinner this week. Water buffalo steak was interesting, but won't replace the usual "beef" choices. Everything else was much more interesting:paté and accompanying conserved & quince pickles. What really made the dinner especially enjoyable was willingness to accommodate my food allergies. The waiter unflinchingly offered a Gluten-Free dessert, and substituted a lovely parsnips puree for potato. I realize Portland is pretty comfortable with food allergies, esp in N/NE Portland, but many restaurants are not as flexible with the $29 menu deals."

  • "Delightful restaurant with a beautiful open ambiance, excellent service and very good food. The grilled octopus appetizer is not to be missed. The special pasta dish was a simple blend of scallops, meyer lemon, olive oil and herbs-delicious."

  • "Not sure why more people don't go to Lincoln, but it really good. They are totally inflexible on substitutions but we got b that. Bar is great, drinks are good. Odd thing, this was the second time that a restaurant using OPEN TABLE did not have our reservation, bizarre! Go to Lincoln, its great!"

  • "hello we live in NE PDX and have dined at Lincoln numerous times - this was the first time i felt the service was not up to par our waiter was not friendly - quite curt - and just not the typical service i would expect at a fine restaurant the food arrived timely - the wine came just as ordered - we did have to ask for bread (doesn't bread come with dinner???) but with every encounter, we found the waiter to be short and overly curt - it just seemed odd since the evening was not busy and there was plenty of other staff on so it was not due to a hectic night of business... we will come back again - but if the service remains unfriendly - we would take Lincoln off our list thanks for the sending a survey to provide feedback"

  • "We had a great time at Lincoln with a wonderful staff, great service, healthy foods. The salads were outstanding, the dinners were creative & tasty. We had the Flat Iron Steak and the Buck Wheat pasta. We will go back in the summer for the open air dining."

  • "Our party of four had a long and leisurely meal at Lincoln this past weekend, and it was lovely. Because food and wine are important to us, we spent a fair amount of time choosing what to order and discussing various wines and dishes with our server. We received knowledgeable and enthusiastic advice and loved the wine and food. We also appreciated the noise level, which was not hushed at all but still allowed us to have lively conversations without shouting to be heard (as is so often the case at popular restaurants these days.) We'll definitely return!"

  • "I ordered the parrechi pasta and the scallops were cooked to perfection. The pasta was slightly undercooked but the flavors were so well done that it was hard to focus on anything negative. I would go back here."

  • "We at at Lincoln Restaurant for Valentine's Day. They had a fixed menu. I emailed the restaurant for more information on the menu and I got a really fast response. They even called ahead of time to remind me of our reservation and to remind me that it's a fixed menu and to call with questions. Their menu had wonderful options for us. I chose the lasagnette with trumpet mushrooms and brown butter. It was insanely delicious - the noodles were the perfect texture and the sauce was delicious (not at all overdone). I could have eaten 2 more bowls full. The portions were on the smaller side but we didn't leave feeling like we overate (which was a plus)."

  • "Great Valentine's day choice. Nice range of unique food options. Waitresses were attentive but not overbearing. The mood was perfect. Planning to return soon."

  • "Liked the restaurant very much, but felt the menu options were limited. The food that we ordered was great and you can clearly see that the chef is very talented, but I would have liked more variety on the menu."

  • "There seemed to be an emphasis on adventurous dining rather than taste."

  • "Food was very good. Had the Wagyu Beef cheeks and the Fish. It was very good, but not quote worth the price. I probably should note that we went on Valentines day and so they served a three course meal with limited options. It seemed pricey for $65.00 per person. And, the menu wasn't posted before when I made reservations."

  • "Our Valentine's day dinning experience was one of the best meals of mt life. It's hard to campare memorable meals that occur years apart, but our meal at Lincoln was one of the five best of my life."

  • "Lincoln does it again. Simple, creative, perfectly prepared food that emphasizes taste over flair. Consistently one of the finest restaurants in Portland, which now says something."

  • "We had a completely adequate but absolutely not special -- in any way -- meal at Lincoln. I asked the server for his recommendation of their most exceptional dish and was steered toward the pig tail appetizer which arrived looking greasy and awkward and tasted pretty much the same -- fatty, inconsistently spiced and awkward. I had to pick around the fat to find a bit of meat here and there, and I only got a few bites in the end. My husband ordered the arugula salad with the fried pig ears and we both expected it to be more dramatic and tasty than it was. The proteins on everyone's main dishes were quite good without being special -- trout, chicken and ribeye. They tasted like very reasonable executions of very reasonable entrees."

  • "This was, once again, a tremendous experience. We had interesting foods; chicken feet, pigs tail, pasta with salt cod, well prepared. Beets prepared with a unique flavor and texture in a town where every restaurant has them (My wife would go back just for them). We had an excellent wait person who was patient and did not try to over-inform us about the food. She realized we were an experienced dining group who were interested in discerning the flavors, ingredients and preparation methods without the overbearing condescension so often present with some Portland restaurants. We asked questions and she answered them. an excellent wine list and good advice. we'll be back."

  • "We've been to Lincoln several times and it's always been very good but this last time our meal was OMG fantastic and one of the best meals we've ever eaten in the US or Europe. Chef Jenn Louis was in the kitchen, directing and inspiring the staff and cooking. I think this is the first time we've been here when Chef Louis was at the helm and everything was perfect. The wait staff and host were charming and friendly and I love the neighborhood feel of Lincoln. The appetizers and small plates are fantastic (Octopus, Thyme Bread, Blood Orange and Cocoa Nib Salad) and the restaurant is one of the few PDX restaurants where we've dined who understands that to share plates you need, A) Serving Spoons, and B) Plates. I can't wait to return."

  • "We had been to Lincoln when they participated in the specially priced meals last year, the annual event intended to introduce diners to various restaurants in Portland. We were impressed with the food and the service. We returned to celebrate a birthday. We were sorely disappointed in the food. The taste and flavor did not match the description. Most of the dishes were bland (my wife had a too-rare lamb dish, I had pasta). The salad as small (we asked if it was large enough to split) so we ordered an additional side dish. Greens of some sort, they were overly cooked and mushy, also lacking flavor. We came away sorely disappointed and likely won't return or recommend the place. On the positive, wait staff were attentive and pleasant."

  • "Lincoln was featured on Bizarre Foods America with Andrew Zimmern and didn't disappoint; the rabbit liver moose, pates, and cassoulet was delicious and out of the ordinary. The server was awkward, out of place, and not very helpful. He started conversing and joking with another table while my food was waiting to be picked up, and another server sent my food to the wrong table. I watched the whole thing unfold, and when the table sent the food back, my server tried to act like nothing happened and non-chalantly set my food down. The table placement was ridiculous, as I was spaced six inches to the next table, and with no one else in the three tables down the line, the host set a couple right next to me with no privacy for me or the couple."

  • "Loved this place, food wine and service were exceptional! Ambiance was not what I expected (there was a lot of beck and modest mouse going on in the music) but just right for us. Started with the snails (we'd both never had before) which were good but nothing to write home about; then we each ordered one of the dinner specials. Best salmon I've EVER had! And the flavor combination of leeks and poached egg went beautifully with the hangar steak. Wine list too was excellent and affordable. Service pretty casual but was absolutely perfect. We were in the bartender's section and we're delighted by his personality and suggestions. Will definitely be back, though maybe not for special occasions (host didn't tell server it was our anniversary)."

  • "After watching an episode of bizarre foods I really wanted to give Lincoln a try while on vacation in Portland. I wish I had went somewhere else the tarbais beans where under done (hard) and my wife's zucca was under cooked as well."

  • "We always enjoy dinner at Lincoln. The menu changes frequently and is always vibrant and creative. I had a luscious crab bisque with brandade, and a perfect carrot risotto, which was as pretty to look at as it was delicious to eat. Our server, Jill, whom we have had before, is friendly, knowledgable, and efficient. We took friends who had not been there before and they were very impressed. The wine list is well priced and well selected. Lincoln represents everything that is great about the PDX dining scene."
