  • Lincoln still delivers
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

I'm a frequent Lincoln diner, because it is quite close to my office, and I've watched the restaurant evolve in its menu, and I must say it still delivers a nice dining experience. This outing was a 7 pm dinner with friends, and the side vegetables were really great-- even the brussel sprouts! My only quibble was presentation-- I had the risotto as my main course, and it arrived in a cereal bowl without charger or plate, looking like a morning bowl of oatmeal. While it wasn't very dramatic looking, it tasted great. Dessert-- the lemon curd-- was tart and not overdone. All in all, I can still count on Lincoln for a great meal in a lively atmosphere.

Lincoln was good but not great. I had Osso Buco which was cooked well but a little bland. My husband had prime rib which had a trail of large salt crystals on top of already salted meat. The wine was good and decently priced. Service was fine and the beet salad was excellent. We dined at Founding Fathers the night before and Lincoln suffered by comparison.

I went here for a work lunch, it was a good find, there was something for everyone (carnivores, vegetarians). Our waiter did confuse one person's order but was very apologetic and got the right one out quickly. The only annoying thing was that you needed to use your credit card to make a reservation.

We had a 6:15 reservation and arrived early (5:55). We asked to sit outside, were told they had no tables outside. The inside of the restaurant was basically empty. We were told we couldn't be seated until our reservation time and asked to sit in the bar. We enjoyed a cocktail in the bar and at 6:15 we had to reapproach the hostess to ask to be seated. The restaurant was still basically empty. We were taken to a table at the back side of the restaurant. We looked at the menu and noticed several tables overlooking the street. We asked to be reseated. Then we noticed that there were several tables that were moved outside to accommodate new diners. We were disappointed that the restaurant didn't find us "worthy" to accommodate our initial request. Drinks took more than 15 minutes to arrive. The food was good, not superb. Additional drink orders during our meal took 10-15 minutes as well.

I had lunch with a friend here on a lovely October afternoon. We both ordered salads which were fresh and tasty. My only complaint was that I asked to add grilled shrimp to my salad and it arrived with 3 medium-sized shrimp. Really?!?! I thought it should have included double that for the size of the salad and the price increment. Loved the atmosphere and the service was great.

I try to avoid leaving suburban Maryland as we have some terrific eating places here. However, it was worth fighting the rush hour traffic to dine at Lincoln. The selection of small plates was varied enough to accomidate different tastes and all were properly prepared and attractively presented. The theme is interesting and of course appropriate for D.C., and the facility, including rest rooms, was clean and well maintained. Service was good and the noise level not excessive for a busy downtown establishment.

We went to Lincoln because we were attending Ford's Theater. What a find! Excellent food and very accommodating. When my friend asked for the gluten free menu, the waitress handed her the regular menu which had been reduced to their gluten free options! As the restaurant has small plates, we knew what dishes could be shared and which to avoid. Great idea! The food was delicious and not too expensive. We were extremely pleased with the results. Special applause to the Brussel sprouts!

I always enjoy going to Lincoln, the food is great BUT I rarely get the seat I request. It doesn't matter that I request a window and two window tables are available when I get there, there is always someone more important for whom they are holding the windows. The manager acted puzzled when I said I requested a window on my reservation through Open Table, and he said he'd go and check. Well ... he never came back because the request was there in black and white and he just wasn't going to do it. It happened again this past Tuesday. AND at very least, I wanted to NOT be in the middle of the floor. But nope. Seats all around the perimeter, but they wouldn't give it to me. Honestly, I'm sure I'll dine there again, but not any time soon.

The place is outfitted with everything Lincoln, so that's a fun reinforcement to a trip to the capital city. We started with the calamari straws which came with three dipping sauces. The calamari was tender and nicely breaded and crisp. I had the BLT salad and my partner the Lincoln Cuban sandwich. Both were well seasoned and tasty. The hit of the meal are the house made chips. Salty with a hint of something unique. The waiter said they soak the potato slices in a balsamic brine before frying them. To die for, seriously! Looking forward to next visit--double up on the chips, please.

We've been many times, I would say it wasn't quite as good this time but still very good. They just switched to the fall menu. The constants were very good as always- deviled eggs, mac and cheese, chicken pot pie, kale, and brussel sprouts. The short ribs were a little dry. The fish was disappointing- the rockfish was salty and the salmon tasted a little undercooked. The pecan pie sundae for dessert was excellent.

I have been to LIncoln a few times and keep returning (so it must be good, right?). I'll say the produce is always fresh and the food is fine. The waiters are a bit sullen ftom time to time and the ambience a bit noisy (it is not the guests, it is bad acoustics). The location is superb if you want to be close to the Hill, the think tanks and the political scene. No Vallet parking but expensive car parks are close. So is the Metro :-)

Lincoln is an excellent find in DC!! A friend who frequently visits DC met me there in March. It was so delightful I returned two nights later with a colleague. The dishes are creative, tasty, and unique. Beverages are delicious and hit the spot. The servers are knowledgeable and everyone treats you as if they are thrilled to have you join them in their own home dining room. We returned to the spot in September and were pleased to see the same excellent servers and delighted to enjoy the same scrumptious small plates. Great spot!
