A word from Limones Restaurant
Around the corner from the Fine Arts Theater in downtown Asheville, Limones Restaurant provides an inspirational mix of Mexican and Californian cuisine along with inventive bar selections served by a warm, professional staff. Long before working and training under some of San Francisco’s most talented chefs, Hugo Ramirez was raised on the intense and varied flavors native to his hometown of Mexico City. In fact, he still calls on his mother for the secrets of traditional Mexican dishes, which he reinvents in innovative and surprising ways. At Limones, Hugo’s love of Mexican food is combined with his training in french-influenced California cuisine.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We brought visiting friends from the Atlanta are who love Mexican food. They were very impressed, as were we, at the food, the service, and especially the lobster nachos. We also like the scallops and the crab cakes. The ambiance was nice; everyone seemed to be having fun and enjoying their food. We will definitely return to try some of the dishes we did not have room for."

  • "Treated poorly like a nuisance Reservations offered by open table for 2pm or 2:30pm- we choose 2pm and they rushed us through our entire lunch We couldn't order more than 1 drink Our lunch order had to be placed by 2:28 and they assured us dessert and coffee could wait until we were done They then wouldn't serve us dessert or coffee because it was too late They wouldn't make any substitutions ( simple ones) for pregnancy They were rude and unwelcoming- ignored us at the end and wouldn't come back by our table in an attempt to scoot us out faster They don't take Amex and explained this very rudely Wish we would have chosen another place for our girls weekend reunion lunch- we felt like an I welcomed nuisance"

  • "I went to Limones for my birthday and the food was fantastic! I especially enjoyed the lobster nachos and chicken tacos. The coconut margarita I had was fabulous! And the tres leches cake and churros were superp! Great service and great food!"

  • "First time in Asheville and dined here on our first night out. The food and service here is nothing short of amazing! My husband had a tuna ceviche and I had the poblano pepper covered in a black bean sauce with 3 different cheeses as appetizers. So delicious. For dinner I had the scallops over a parsnip puree and my husband had the shrimp over grits. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was absolutely perfect. Although they have an extensive margherita menu, we didn't try any, however, the mojito was great. Everything else that was coming out of the kitchen looked soooo good. They change the menu frequently but keep some of the favorites. Would highly recommend you visit if you are in the area."

  • "The special scallops were wonderful but the Kobe skirt steak burrito was very disappointing. There was hardly any meat in it and the few pieces that were included were impossible for either of us to chew. Also, for the few ingredients inside, I felt it was very over priced."

  • "It's one of those places where you have to look over the menu twice before you even know what questions you want to ask the server. Then when the food arrives, everything looks mouth watering delicious, and is."

  • "Maybe it's just what we ordered (the only two vegetarian items on the menu), but my wife's comment was, "We could have just gotten Trader Joe's.""

  • "Brought some out of town guests for dinner to give them a real Asheville food experience as I had been to Limones several times before and always enjoyed it. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks. Our server was knowledgeable and efficient. An excellent dining experience."

  • "We ate dinner here on Friday night. There were five guys in our group and everything was awesome. The servers were friendly and the food…the food was AMAZING! If you haven't been to Limones, go! It's #1 on my list of Asheville restaurants."

  • "Visited Limones at the urging of a friend. We had a wonderful server who was enthusiastic about the menu. We had the lobster nachos and drinks. The nachos were the best part of the experience. The mushroom quesadilla was fair at best."

  • "A favorite spot for us in downtown Asheville. We all shared the ceviche sample of the day all having their own amazing flavors. All four of our meals were extraordinary and cooked to perfection. Love Limones."

  • "Our meal was fabulous! The scallops were superb, among the very best I have had. They have a nice choice of margaritas. It is not your everyday Mexican restaurant-very elegant!"

  • "We (me, husband, 2 teens) chose Limones based on other OT reviews and we were NOT disappointed! The restaurant is small with no waiting area and it was busy, so that is a downside. However, we had reservations (10pm on a Sat night) and were seated within 5 minutes. Husband and I had margaritas (blood orange & traditional) and they were delicious! We ordered the ceviche sampler, lobster nachos, crab cakes, and boar's sausage appetizers...ALL of them were phenomenal! We also ordered the tres leches cake and that was very light, fluffy, and fresh. Our waitress (Caitlyn) was such a gem...super fun and engaging! The entire dining experience was such a treat after the long drive from Indy...we will definitely return whenever we're back in town!"

  • "Our evening at Limones could not have been more exceptional! We had a party of 11 for a special occasion and could not have been more satisfied with the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Limones is truly one of Asheville's finest and a place we will return again, and again."

  • "We had heard great reviews from all of our friends about Limones, and I have to say it lived up to the hype! Fantastic margarita menu, the lobster nachos were outstanding, and don't get me started on the ceviche! The mix of the flavors in all of the dishes was vibrant, but not overwhelming. The flavors create a well blended balance for a wonderful take on California style Mexican. I also loved the fact that I felt like I was picked up and transported to a little European cafe. Nothing but great things to say about Limones!"

  • "This quaint little spot is outstanding. The chef's blending of flavors and unique style create dishes that are truly one of a kind. Outstanding dining experience."

  • "This is our secret go-to place for a fabulous brunch and/or a special occasion dinner. With this said, it is also just a great "hey, we should go to Limone's tonight." It doesn't have to be a special occasion. I guess you would call this Mexican Fusion? I call it consistently fabulous. And you haven't had a margarita until you have had one here. I highly recommend either the Caliente or the Blood Orange. This is only a half block off the main road, so this secret place is also very accessible. Get there."

  • "Food was extremely fresh, flavorful and creative. Service was absolutely outstanding. Wine options were quite good, and traditional margarita also quite good. Only bottled beer options - I would prefer having 2-3 local microbrew varieties on draft as an additional option (considering Asheville has some terrific beers), which should be plausible with micro-sized kegs. This is a can't-miss place!"

  • "What a wonderful find!! Great, great good and wonderful margaritas!!! In fact, the "Margarita Caliente" is now my favorite of all time. Our server was so personable and helpful with the plentiful menu. If you visit Asheville and don't make this a destination, you are missing a real gem!! The short ribs are phenomenal!"

  • "OMG....I don't know where to begin. This food is so unique and delicious. I could never explain all the flavors as they are not typical of any other foods I have had. We spent the weekend in Asheville and went to five different restaurants. This was undoubtedly the best of them all. I was surprised that we had not heard of this place before but we will be sure to tell everyone to go there. Also.....you must get the mussels!!!! Incredible!!!!!"

  • "The Cervice with Mahi was delicious as was the wild mushroom/cheese quesadilla with fried egg. The special entree was outstanding: short ribs of beef in a wonderful sauce with onion and mushrooms."

  • "There was only 1 waiter to take orders which wasn't enough. We sat for 15 minutes before he came for our order. Our food came before our wine. Food is good and inventive. Mexican inspired"

  • "Restaurant was recommended and it did not disappoint. My wife and I shared an appetizer and 2 main courses all brought in order. Quality of the food was excellent and with imagination in the taste combinations. Wine list was solid and not overpriced. We decided on a Spanish Numanthia from the Toro region reasonably priced at $85. We also had their excellent Red Blood Margaritas. Very different indeed and reminded me of my favorite Prickly Pear Margaritas. The only negative was that the courses were brought too fast but the place is small and it was packed so I understand. Our server was great with an excellent sense of humor. All in all will definitely be back."

  • "I'd read about Limones on Urbanspoon and we decided to give it a try. From seating to the final drop of coffee and the truffle, every element was perfect. Fabulous lobster nachos, fresh and delectable entrees (seafood stew for my husband and NC tiger shrimp for myself), perfectly cooked. Our server was attentive, helpful, and engaging. The next time we're in town, we will return and try completely different offerings. I anticipate identical results!"

  • "We finally made it to Limones after three years of wanting to go, but never thinking to make reservations far enough in advance to get in. The food was fantastic and original and we had a very nice wait person. I see why Limones books up so quickly!"

  • "Amazing dining experience. Flavors and charming essence of food and drinks that will create a home for your senses for a long time. Clean and organized restaurant. Menu is perfectly designed for unique choices to comfortably tease your taste buds and not overwhelming. A wholesome restaurant experience that will invite you to return for more."
