Diner Reviews
  • "If you like meat in your dessert you will like the lamb dish. I could hardly eat one bite since it was so sweet that I could bite sugar crystals in it. When asked the explanation was " it is the fig sauce for this recipe". If you go here think twice befoe you order lamb. The appetizer we ordered was very good- firecracker shrimp. The waitress forgot to bring the bread before main course and we had to ask for it seeing it on the other tables. She apologized though. Food is very expensive for this area. ($30 for main course)."

  • "It is fine dining at its best. The friendly staff makes you feel comfortable and special. You are not rushed to order, the food courses are served so you are not hurried and at just the right pace. I eat slowly, so I especially appreciate not having my appetizer, salad or entre all on the table at the same time. My complements and gratitude to the staff for making our dining experience very pleasant."

  • "Food was very good but the service was slow even though the dining room was fairly empty. I would definitely eat here again"

  • "One of our favorite places, it never disappoints, one of The few white table cloth dining that still includes a salad with your entree. Staff is friendly service is great. They do not try to rush you. Had the scallops wonderful kids had the bolognese large portion I would get the 1/2 size next time, you'll love it;)"

  • "the Limestone Grille is a nice place but it could be great with better attention to detail. Our initial service was slow and the wait staff needs better trained for fine dining. With nice ambience and above average pricing there should be tablecloths. It is a nice place for a special occasion. The food is very good but they have to step it up in all departments to compete in a very competitive dining market. "

  • "Thank you to the Limestone Grille for a wonderful brunch on Mother's Day. I actually booked the reservation to follow my daughter's SU graduation. I usually do not enjoy a Mother's Day brunch but this was superb. The food was fresh, presentation was lovely and the flavors were exactly "spot on". "

  • "This is a restaurant we visit once or twice a year. The food is good and I don't not like it there. It just lacks something I can't put my finger on."

  • "The food and service at Limestone Grille were both very good on a recent Sunday evening. The meal-sized salade nicoise came with a big piece of seared tuna. The wild mushroom main course was very nice with a delicious sauce over the puff pastry ensemble. We were able to chat with our friends in an atmosphere that was not rushed or harried. We definitely would return again to try some of the other dishes."

  • "One of two steaks ordered was not cooked as requested (well vs. med rare), but manager offered replacement or to take it off bill. Good restaurant to have a conversation. Bar is very good."

  • "This is one of our favorites. It is good for friends to get together and for business meetings."

  • "Large group reserved for 9 and expanded to 10. Everyone highly complimentary about food choices. About half the group selected soup/sandwich special: bowl of soup and 1/2 special sandwich. The turkey tetrazini soup was well received and the sandwich special included turkey and pesto with cheese on a specialty bread. I had a grilled Tuscan vegetable salad that was excellent in the grilled vegetables and added chicken ($6) but was somewhat lackluster in the romaine lettuce it was placed on. Overall, generous portions, good food and very good value for lunch. Service was a bit on the slow side but perhaps our large group taxed their resources. Decor is sophisticated and elegant in stone and wood but with a modern feel to it. Dress was casual."

  • "To start with the positives, the atmosphere was great and the service was friendly. I felt very comfortable and cozy, yet a sense of elegance still maintained. Entire meal took a little long but I think that was by design to create a formal "dining experience" and I wasn't too miffed. However, I now know why this is one of the few places I could get a reservation for on Valentine's Day. Food wasn't terrible, but for the price it did seem unjustified. Probably one of the most expensive meals I've had in Syracuse but it by far wasn't one of the best. Had the artichoke appetizer and the cheese on it tasted like the cheese they use at Pizza Hut. For dinner had the prime rib special and it was so tough I couldn't cut through the meat!"

  • "The food was good but nothing to write home about. Steak was good but not exceptional. (We've had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse). Service was good, but that is expected. Again, nothing exceptional. Basically the whole experience was OK, but nothing special in our opinion. If we were hungry and in the neighborhood, we might go back. We wouldn't go out of our way."

  • "We checked out the menu before making reservations. When we arrived on time, it was a good 5 minutes before the hostess showed up. There was only one other table occupied. Service was slow, had to ask for the wine flight that we had seen online in the menu. Soup was good, salad was good. Bread and dipping sauces not so. Steak was good, cooked well. Seafood special wasn't. Choice of sides very limited, garlic mashed or bland rice. Side vegetable good. Very quiet if you want a place to talk. Slower service, so you don't feel rushed. I would try again and just have salad and steak, but a bit pricey when you don't like the sides or bread."

  • "When we sat down we had only one page on a menu to choose from and the items were pretty pricey. My wife and I had one appetizer and we had an entree each with one dessert and two drinks each and the bill was close to $100. That said, the food was outstanding so I would take her here again for our next anniversary. I'll just make sure I save up."

  • "We had dinner with our daughter who is attending Syracuse University. The food was really good and the service also very good. We tried a bunch of different things on the menu and found everything to be very tasty. We will definitely come back again."

  • "Inviting dining room and attentive service. The salads included with the entrees are fresh and delicious. Only drawback is prices seem high for what you get."

  • "The food was good to very good. A little bland for my liking. The service, Renee, was very good and a n asset to this business."

  • "Fantastic menu and service. We really enjoyed the food, wine, martin is and scotch selection. Excellent top shelf selection, without the top shelf cost. We will be back. Hopefully soon."

  • "We had a wonderful meal here, beautifully served. Attentive service, even though the restaurant was very busy."

  • "The atmosphere is pretty good and I enjoyed their warm Parmesan bread . I enjoyed the NE clam chowder. On the problematic side: The Cesar salad was dry, as was the baked fish. The steaks were cooked well but poorly (as in not) seasoned. I enjoyed their trio of steak sauces but they were served in thimble like amounts. It may just have been an off night in the cooking and I would give them another chance before writing them off."

  • "Have been there many times for business lunches, but less often for dinner. Food quality has taken an uptick, for sure. A bit pricey relative to the quality, but great casual spot. Delightfully quiet in the dining room."

  • "Went here for the second time last week for a business dinner (prior visit was a year or so ago). On a Thursday night we were just the third table occupied in the dining room. Heard some liveliness from the bar side. Appreciate the option to order half portions of some of the entrees. The house salad is a nice departure from the standard offering."

  • "This was our second trip, this time with a group of 11. Service and food were quite good, from the appetizers to the soups to main courses. Portions were generous as well. Very nice wine list. We will be back."

  • "Waited 20 minutes before a waitress came to our table. It was Thursday evening and the restaurant was not busy. The hostess did come and serve water and to say she was sorry it was taking so long. Service continued to be extremely slow. My wife ordered veal oscar, the veal was tough (rubber like) the vegetables were raw not aldante but raw!! My salmon was at best warm!! Not hot. As it was our anniversary and now after 8 P.M. we made the best of it and left. Not a good first impression!"

  • "Limestone was the perfect dating spot. It has atmosphere, quiet space especially the booths and offered good food and service. Ideal to impress someone for the first time."

  • "Although the food was excellent, we found the Limstone Grille to be pricey and loud. The tables in the center of the room were too close together."

  • "A late dinner of soup and small plate items was quite good and we will definitely be back. Attentive service as well."

  • "Beautifully constructed; lovely interior, with wood beams. Quiet and welcoming. Excellent service. Some food (e.g. salads with protein item added) a little pricier than we're used to, and portions were not large. Food for a party of ten: "OK" to "Very good". Would definitely visit again."

  • "We took clients from The Netherlands out to lunch there. The service was great and the food was fantastic. We would definately recommend this restaurant for business lunches and would take our clients there again!"

  • "While our food was good it was far from memorable. I enjoyed the halibut with encrusted lump crab meat, although the portions were too big and my son's $36 filet was overcooked. The calamari was nothing special and the service was disappointing. I cant' stand to wait for wait staff to clear the table of empty plates. It's bad for the guests and others dining in the restaurant who don't want to look at have eaten plates. It's so simple but for some reason overlooked."

  • "WE dined there on a Saturday night, and there was a Wedding reception taking place in the back room of the restuarant so that may have been the problem, but 3 of te 5 of us were very disappointed in our meals. The srevice was great, but the food for the price point was disappointing. We had calamari and it was all tenticles, we had the pork short ribs that was like an overcooked tough pork chop. The Sea Bass was the only entree that was really good. I would really think hard before trying this again."

  • "Found the bar quite busy, oyster bar a very good idea. Really no private tables for a romantic dinner. Some dishes are to busy. Salad to much going on with too many flavors, lobster bisque would have been better if it had chucks of lobster meat, do away with the ravioli, and sour cream. My husband was not to impressed with his dish, a beautiful steak filet over pasta???? My veal okay,"

  • "Good selection of seafood and meats. Temerature and taste of food was very good. Dinner salad that comes with meal was better than most restaurants. Bread that came with the meal was very good, and I liked the selection of butter and "oils" to put on the bread. Nice touch. No martini selections on the drink menu, but I understand they are working on a martini menu selection now. Still, wife ordered a watermelon martini, and was satisfied with how it tasted."
