Diner Reviews
  • "Our table was ready when we arrived. We were seated exactly as planned. Super great service. Our server was one of the best we have ever had. She was always right there when needed, but nothing was overdone. Would like to take her everywhere we go. Very nice meal. I had a steak which was cooked perfectly. It was very tasty as well. It was very easy to carry on a conversation. We could actually hear each other. Will be happy to return on our next visit to Louisville."

  • "First time at Lilly's for all 4 of us. Service was good with lots of special attention by multiple staff and owner. Cocktails exceptional. Our fellow dinners pronounced the oysters the best they have ever eaten. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The artwork was eclectic and interesting adding to a good ambience. We would all make a point of eating here again."

  • "I hadn't been to Lilly's in about 10 years, and it had been 15 or so for the person with whom I dined. We left wondering why. It was a fabulous experience from start to finish, with great food, and attentive service. We'll be back!"

  • "Lilly's is terrific - yes, superior food, brilliantly prepared - but without a stuffy attitude, and without the sky high prices one could associate with a top rated destination spot."

  • "The arugula beet salad could have used some more beets! Chicken was excellent. Service was excellent."

  • "Service was attentive with flair. First time at restaurant through use of a Groupon, and happy to say I will be returning regularly. The food was flavorful and cooked perfecting. Strawberry salad was perfect!"

  • "My date found her food exceptionally good. I was disappointed in the short range of beef and fish. "

  • "In our estimation, Lilly's is the gold standard for fine dining in Louisvile and our choice for those special occasions."

  • "As visitors to Louisville for the Derby, we were not sure where to dine. Local friends suggested Lilly's, and they were right. About 10 minutes from downtown, Lilly's reads as a place that is genuine, personal, and sophisticated. The menu is local, fresh, and original: the best we had in Louisville. The food filled with flavors and textures; delicious. The chef/owner, Kathy Cary, a James Beard regional finalist, spent at least 10 minutes chatting and discussing food with us. Bartender/waiter mixed a great Manhattan. We would absolutely recommend this spot."

  • "This was the least enjoyable of the last half-dozen James Beard award winning restaurants that we have visited in the last 2-months. The food was bland, and although better than the average restaurant, not up the the standards of what we have grown to expect from James Beard winners. The salmon special of the evening could have been confused with any number of white fish recipes for its lack of any distinctive flavor. The pork dish was over done. The caramel cake was dry. Needless to say, on our next visit to Louisville; Lilly's will not be on our list."

  • "The food is always good but sitting so close to bar and entry was a bit claustrophobic and noisy "

  • "I always enjoy this place. Delicious food, quiet enviorment, attentive smiling servers. Lemon souflee with strawberries to die for!!!! Hostess though needs to dress more respectful for such a lovely place."

  • "We had an outstanding dinner and evening there. We would recommend it highly."

  • "Previous visits were more positive, in terms of quality of the food and the noise level. The service was outstanding. The waitress had asked (before the loud quests had arrived) if we would like to move to avoid noisiness. Little did we know that we should have accepted the recommendation. The veal piccatta that we ordered was the biggest disappointment. There was too much creamy sauce, insufficient lemon flavor, the veal was dry, and the pasta was overcooked."

  • "Lilly's has become our "go-to" place for special occasions. We were celebrating our daughter's 21st birthday last weekend. The food was amazing, as always. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. We have been to Lilly's many times, and have never been disappointed!"

  • "I am torn writing this review because it wanted to love this place, the food was great, the setting was beautiful, but i waited and waited at every point of the meal. Even when the restaurant cleared out at 9:45 the attentiveness of the staff was elsewhere. My date commented multiple times that there must be someone important at the table across the restaurant receiving the attention. We may give it another shot but not for a while."

  • "As always, Lilly's was a superb dining experience. The flavor combinations and textures perfectly complimented each other to the smallest and most subtle of flavors. Whenever I travel through Louisville, I always make it a point to done there and have never been disappointed. The consistency of the experience is greatly appreciated."

  • "We booked a table at Lilly's while planning a weekend getaway to Louisville. The menu was intriguing so we thought we would give it a try - it was all we had hoped for! The food was creative and delicious, and the bourbon menu was mind-boggling. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner for 2. We would definitely go there again."

  • "First time at Lilly's and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Our group of 4 started with some shared apps: Roasted Garlic, Frites, and Duck Nachos and all were very yummy. For our entrees we had Veal Scallopini, Braised Lamb Shoulder, 7 Deadly Sins, and Fried Chicken and shared these as they were all very good. Our server, Amy, was very attentive, friendly, and professional - kudos and thank you!"

  • "FAbulous as always. Great European ambiance coupled with creative spins on traditional fare featuring local produce. Really one of the best restaurants in town."

  • "My husband started with the duck nachos that were really good and I ordered the Caesar salad. The salad was not cut up and the dressing was not very good. I had the filet, it was tender and cooked as ordered. He had the veal steak but it was very tough. We skipped dessert. It was okay but we probably will not be back. Not the best food I have had around town."

  • "Took my wife for her birthday and we had a wonderful dinner. Food was fantastic service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive. Highly recommend for any occasion. They also have nice room off to back which is great for business meeting or group dinner."

  • "Lilly's Bistro has outstanding food and friendly, courteous service. I think there were some new staff members on Valentine's Day, so the service might have been a little slow, but the charm and atmosphere made up for it. My (now former) girlfriend really enjoyed the chocolate cake for desert. ($150 drinks & dinner and a "Dear Don" visit 3 days later... Go figure.)"

  • "They had good service that was there when needed but not annoying. Great atmosphere and the inside is beautiful. The food was my favorite part. The veal and the filet were perfect. The "Old Fashioned" they made me is my new favorite mixed drink, you have to try it if your a whiskey fan."

  • "Enjoyed a special evening for 2 at Lilly's..... Always appreciate the service provided by favorite waiter here (Jeff). My wife & I had starters including the fried oysters and separate Pate...both delicious!! Our main course was also marvelous, with seared scallops and veal piccata prepared perfectly. We had a relaxed pace during courses by having red wine and cocktails, then the meal with chilled lemon pie and caramel cake......a very delightful evening! You can't beat Lilly's for a special evening enjoying Cathy's menu and local goodies"

  • "First time to Lily's and new to the Louisville area. Since being here I haven't had a bad meal at any place we chose to eat, but Lily's is by far the best! Try their fried chicken and sweet potato pancakes, they are delicious. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the wait staff are superb. I most certainly recommend this place for any dinning situation. The great quality of the food is accompanied by a complete beer and wind list, which is offset by a great price."

  • "Since we don't live in Louisville, it has been an embarrassingly long time since I've eaten at Lilly's, the benchmark against which I once measured all restaurants. I am very pleased to report it has lost none of its special charm. Should be on the bucket list of every serious eater in the region, and a destination dining experience for the REALLY serious foodies in the country!"

  • "There are many good things about Lilly's, but the best to me is that it never disappoints. The menu selections vary, they are always creative and they are always good. In addition, the service is prompt and the servers are pleasant and knowledgeable. It is a "stand-by" that never gets old."

  • "Lilly's was an early leader in using locally raised and produced foods in their cooking, and it still shines in that department. I was, however, disappointed in our recent meal. I food the menu to be both small (not necessarily a bad thing) and the execution of our choices was not particularly exciting. My wife's fried chicken was too greasy, and the flavors were too sweet for my taste; the gnocchi dish I had likewise had too many sweet notes. Portion size, presentation and service were all excellent."
