Diner Reviews
  • "We chose Lilac to celebrate our 42nd anniversary. We had steak tartar, pea soup, green salad with kale chips, and pork belly appetizers, all were fantastic. My wife and I had wild boar stroganoff which they made with gluten free noodles to accommodate my wife. It was delicious. Our daughter had a scallop special, and our son in law had braised ribs. Definitely fit for foodies. We had some local brews to get started and enjoyed a nice bottle of Bordeaux with our meal. The desserts are over the top rich, shared several. Our waitress was attentive, but not overbearing. Another great evening."

  • "I was b&r in MT. Visit family, back and forth from Chicago area. Love great food and unique dining experiences. Lilac offered fine, imaginative food. There're good minds and palates at work in this restaurant. Staff is excited about, even invested in, Lilac. Dessert menu small making everything on it spectacular. Food is really beginning to happen in Billings. Lilac is leading the way."

  • "The mix of flavors is wonderful. Do not dine close to the end of the night though. The service and quality suffer from the staffs eagerness to leave."

  • "We dined at Lilac for my wife's birthday with close friends. Our starters included pea soup, a beef tartar, and a specialty cucumber plate that included a cucumber foam - from local produce. Our main courses were the salmon special (with spinach and a horseradish sauce !), and fettucini based on flour smoked with alderwood. Wow ! Desserts included the now-famous sticky toffee pudding and a panna cotta with a molasses cookie. Blown away ! If you still go to other restaurants (hint - rhymes with the Tex) its nobody's fault but your own."

  • "Lilac has the best brunch in town. Excellent variety of dishes that you won't find anywhere else. Blackberry mamosas are incredible."

  • "Ok Montana has a lot offer as far as the outdoors, personally I moved from Sarasota Florida to get away from the heat. The first time I came to lilacs was a year ago and u had a great meal but in the back of my head I was thinking it was a fluke. Consistent cusine is one of the hardest things a modern eateries have and in Montana double so. So went for my birthday on a Friday night not my usual day cause it's for those other dinners. In a word spectacular not only did the meal surpass my last experience it topped it. Great job !!!"

  • "The food was good, but it was also expensive with small portions. Everything was a-la-cart. When I am paying that much for a meal, I have higher expectations. I thought the food was good, but not quite at good as the cost. So overall, I just would say that my meal did not match the price."

  • "a quaint spot has really turned into the best place in town. the food is well balanced and the prices for what you get were right on. I would recommend it to every one. in my opinion the chef has become the best in town."

  • "that is my review of lilac, its all about the food, its high quality locally sourced ingridents combined in an artsian way. small menu lets you know what they have is fresh, somethings they have some duck it's on special one night..you get to taste a fatty delight in your mouth, maybe the next time they perogies filled with goat cheese. every dish is warming and reminds me of another restaurant or trp or place, mainly europe mixed with the rustic atmosphere or montana. i can't say enough about this restaurant, if you like food and fine dining, this is the best place in town no where is close to them."

  • "Lilac's food is amongst the best in Billings, at a price half of that of other fine dining restaurants. Casual, personable and relaxed, Lilac is perfect for a quick meal or a romantic evening. A small but unique menu. Interesting appetizers and some of the best deserts in town make this a special place for dinner. One appetizer, three entrees, bottle of wine and two shared deserts=$113."

  • "We really enjoy going here for both brunch and dinner. The food is always fresh, very nicely prepared and the staff is attentive without being pushy. This is one of our favorite go-to places!"

  • "My wife and I had dinner on Saturday night at this charming locavore storefront restaurant. It has a nice ambiance with linen but mismatched antique china, open view towards kitchen. The food was good. Notably good of what we had was the flat iron steak with ramp jelly and sticky toffee pudding. Slightly less impressive was the braised short rib which seemed to be a little overwhelmed by the caramelized onions. Our server was young and pleasant but did not know much about the menu (which is nice, if not overdone, in a restaurant with innovative aspirations)."

  • "The menu is pretty simple, whereas the food itself has an excellent, complex taste, supported by savory sauces. The desserts, while more expensive than most, are truly divine."

  • "Lilac is one of our "Go To" restaurants in Billings. There are always some new items on the menu, the food is prepared from scratch, and always very nicely presented. The chef/owner Jeremy is very creative. The wine list is a bit limited but there are usually nice choices available. The Sunday Brunch has some nice variations on mimosas. The restaurant is not large so if you are taking a group be sure to get a reservation. It is something out of the ordinary for small company parties and birthday dinners."

  • "The chef had a great take on traditional brunch menu items. You will still find all of your old favorites, but they have been upgraded."

  • "The brunch is made with fresh ingredients, home made sausage, and real maple Aurelio. Delicious mimosas. Good coffee. "

  • "Lilac never disappoints. Always interesting selections and the staff is top notch. Brunch is amazing (the biscuits and gravy can't be beat!) and dinner is the best in Billings (the short ribs and gnocchi is one of the best dishes I've had anywhere!). Don't miss out on a great dining experience!"

  • "We had a great dinner with 2 newcomers to Billings. Service was great, food was great. It is loud and they would be well-served to get some acoustics help. Carrying on a conversation was very difficult. But we loved it."

  • "Modern, clean and simple ambience. Clean, fresh and original menu. Happy, smiling and friendly staff. Satisfactory wine list. Pan-seared drum (special): Fish was cooked to perfection and served with a bold and tangy tomato sauce that fit the dish well. Roasted cauliflower: Just the right amount of crispness and spice. The kimchi and raisin vinaigrette fight over your taste buds but no one is a loser with this small plate. Five stars. Will dine here again. "

  • "Thr food at Lilac was fabulous! Our waitress was exceptional. She did a great job describing the specials and since this was our first time at Lilac she made excellent recommendations. The Chef also checked with us regarding our experience not once but twice. From the small plates to the desserts everything was great. We will definitely dine there again."

  • "Four of us had different breakfasts & all were very good; mine was one of my favorites, chicken fried steak with cream gravy. This was one of the best I've had with a delicious crispy crust and excellent gravy. Good sized portions, friendly & courteous staff and reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food. We'll be back for dinner soon."

  • "Thanks for a lovely meal and fine service. The food was inventive and delicious. We tried the bone marrow and found it truly interesting and delightful. I had the halibut in coconut sauce--the fish was cooked to perfection and the sauce was very subtle and really complimented the fish. My partner had the pork chop and found it quite wonderful. We had to skip dessert, but will definitely save room for it next time. Great place; thanks again."

  • "I feel like The Lilac is a little hidden treasure in downtown Billings. great rotating menu and the food was delicious. It did get a little noisy and hard to hear but that would be my only recommendation. It wa fun to meet the owner although i am not sure if he would have come ober if we werent sitting mext to a news announcer. Definitely a place i will go again!!!"

Gluten friendly, fresh ingredients, great wines, friendly staff, and of course the wonderful food keep us coming back weekly for dinner and/or Sunday brunch! Also, the appetizers and desserts were fresh and all made on site. (Dessert right out of the oven) Service was prompt and friendly. Will definitiely return."
