Lightfoot RestaurantMy wife of 35 years and IMy wife of 35 years and I had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary at Lightfoot. The food was awesome and the service was perfecttion!! Since we were celebrating, we were placed at a table in a quiet corner and received a complimentary glass of champagne which was very romantic. The fried green tomato appetizer was my wife's favorite dish. All of our food was prepared perfectly. We always enjoy our visits at the Lightfoot and save this restaurant for "special" occasions. We chose the Plank for an appetizer which we devoured and would order it again. We each had a glass of wine with dinner...all great wine. I had the Duck Breast which was absolutely delicious. My oldest daughter had a wonderful Halibut dish which I believe was a special. My youngest daughter had the best Shrimp and Grits that she has ever had...even in NOLA! The waitress was amazing and very helpful. My daughters both had dessert (Creme Brulee and a Sunday) which they devoured. My partner relished the squash bisque and I savored the crab bisque; both were healthy portions served in uniquely designed bowls contributing to an attractive dining experience. My Parisian Salmon was outstanding; the seasoning on the salmon burst fresh flavors into a traditional fish dish.
The atmosphere was slightly disconcerting. The tables for two people were very close together and took away from any romantic or merely private conversations. Also there was a table full of tipsy drinkers nearby whose laughter and cackling invaded the whole room. Food was great!I took my wife to Lightfoot for our 6th anniversary. We were both very pleased. The building is really cool. Apparently it was once a bank and was remodeled into this restaurant. The decor included vault doors (I assume it was genuine), fancy stairway, a piano and more. It was really neat.
The food was awesome. Presentation on the plate was attractive and the portion size was large. Food was a tad expensive, but not shockingly so. We spent $150 for the two of us including appetizers, salad/soup, main course, a couple drinks each and dessert.
Service was very professional and polite. We were one of the last reservations and felt no rush from the staff and I didn't notice anyone "closing up shop" as we finished our meals.

Very elegant.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently GreatHaving been to the Lightfoot about a half dozen times in the past 15 years, it's definitely a "Special Occasion" type of place, and it continues to live up to its reputation. I went there on a Tuesday evening with my wife to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary, and it was well worth coming back. It was particularly nice to be seated in a secluded corner of the restaurant on a quiet Tuesday so that we did not have overlapping conversations with our neighbors. The menu is somewhat limited, but that is often not a bad idea, as it emphasizes quality choices. I was so pleased to see the wonderful space for groups or all sizes (check out the upstairs) and the great variety of food that could accommodate even the pickiest of eaters.
The staff was friendly and knowledgable.
I look forward to exploring the option to have our rehearsal dinner here more and hope to try more dishes. This past Saturday we took friends with us who appreciate good food and a pleasant venue. Lightfoot provided both. Our menu choices were prepared to perfection and were absolutely delicious. An important contributor to any dining experience is the wait staff. Ours was terrific. Phillip was friendly, efficient and attentive to the details of our party. When our friends asked for black napkins, rather than the white ones provided, Phillip was quick to oblige. Of course, the food was over the top delicious --that goes without saying. Thanks Lightfoot - we will all be back soon. We decided to go for my husband's birthday and were NOT disapointed! Everything we had was delicious: the crab bisque, fried green tomatoes, shrimp & grits and eggplant parmesan were all delicious...but the french onion and wild mushroom soup was hands down the best soup either of us have ever tasted. We are ruined and will never be able to order it anywhere else--so good! There were lots of items on the menu that jumped out of us including several of their salads. When we entered and viewed the high ceiling, wonderful woodwork and the preservation effort that went into converting from the Peoples National Bank (1888) to a wonderful restaurant, we were all impressed.
The food was very good - the wait staff was informative and attentive.

The restaurant is in a converted historic bank and retains a lot of the old town flavor. The staff was very attentive and service was top notch as was the food. I had the pork shank, which was extremely tender but a little bland. It could have used a sauce or something else to add flavor to it. My wife had the shrimp and grits. The dish was moderately spicy and was very delicious. For dessert we had the mixed berry cobbler and it was very good. My wife and I have celebrated 3 anniversaries there while dating; were married there; and this past weekend celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary with my parents. I think that speaks for itself. The missing 5th star in some categories is just because I'm not sure it's the best food I've ever eaten or a scene that blows me away compared with the top few, most expensive restaurants in New York City, Washington, DC or some other large city; and a lot of the menu items are too gourmet and contain things I don't like. Lightfoot Restaurant and Leesburg, Va. are one of the best places I have EVER eaten and one of the best little towns for shopping, history and FOOD! We each had something different so we could sample various dishes. The atomsphere was great, restaurant decor was nice and we had an overall very nice time. The best dish was the lobster/shrimp & pasta, next was the jumbo crab dish, then the haddock, and the least favorite was the grouper with crab on top. The grouper was way to fishy and the meal was only half consumed.
