  • "excellent food, well prepared, pretty good service. Desserts outstanding but too small (!) Much like a good Manhattan restaurant - high quality with similar prices Highly recommended for Jersey City/Hoboken foodies :)"

  • "seriously - i've been eating burgers for most of my life, but this one is off the charts ridiculously good. i recommend going here for brunch, summer dining outside, or late night."

  • "They are selling old stripe bass as sea bass and salmon as trout plus I order blue point oyster only got the other 3 were Maryland oysters. Wow"

  • "I have worked in Jersey City on and off since 1998. The redevelopment has been amazing bringing lots of restaurants to the area. I visited the Light Horse Friday after being away for 2 years. Met an old friend for lunch and I was greeted by the staff and management as if I was a long lost family member. The food was delicious as always and the service was top notch. I am never disappointed at the Light Horse. I just wish there was a place like it in Edgewater where I live! Consider opening one in Edgewater we need it!!! The Light Horse is still the best in JC"

  • "I have been going there for years but had not been back for one year. The only disappointment was that I had not been back soon. Lunch was perfect and food as always was great."

  • "This is an excellently managed tavern with a wide selection of dishes and daily specials. A close friend and I make it our "luncheon place" everytime I am in Jersey City and always enjoy spending a long leisurely meal there. For my pal, meeting me there requires a lwalk from her apartment, but I must travel from Philadelphia. Believe me, it is worth the trouble. There is one sour note to report from our most recent visit. The service, which is normally superb, was no where near the standard we have enjoyed in the past. Having said that, I am confident we will return to the Light Horse in the near future."

  • "Birthday brunch at my favorite place in Jersey City was terrific, as usual!!! Other groups included new parents with very well behaved babies, and other groups and couples of all ages. Day or night, LHT is always a great stop. Some say it's pricey, but I am a "you get what you pay for" person, and LHT never disappoints."

  • "The Light Horse Tavern had come highly recommended, so we were looking forward to a great time. We arrived 15 minutes earlier than our booking, but were promptly shown to a table (we were prepared to sit at the bar if it were an issue). The food throughout was fine - well cooked, good portion sizes, tasty - but nothing out of this world. The prices were reasonable. The service was also just fine - polite, courteous, but no warmth or energy or passion."

  • "All food we ordered were good except the prime steak was bad. I was socked the steak had no taste, hard to chew. This was my first bad experience from Light Horse Tavern. Once I told our waitress, we didn't get charge the BAD steak."

  • "I've visited this restaurant a couple of times for business meals. I've been very satisfied with the food and service both times. I would recommend this for future dinners."

  • "Took my best friend here while she was visiting me and my husband. We couldn't resist trying the broccoli gruyere soup to share and it didn't disappoint us! Most of us got either the french toast or huevos rancheros - both of which I've had before and would highly recommend. The french toast is always soooo good! The huevos rancheros could use some more spice and salsa, but it definitely hit the spot."

  • "We went here to celebrate my husbands graduation and I was very pleased although I thought it was odd they were out of two brunch items (french toast and the biscuits) on a Sunday. Other than that, the noise level was great for bringing a toddler along and the food was fantastic all around! We are already making plans to go back!"

  • "Very happy we chose Light Horse Tavern. The menu offered a wonderful variety of selections without being overwhelming. Everyone was thrilled with the dishes they selected, drinks were delicious and reasonable. Our server was top-notch. Will definitely return, and I have already recommended this restaurant to friends."

  • "After reading reviews on various websites, I regrettably chose Light Horse as they place to meet a friend from Germany for brunch. Food was terrible. Eggs Benedict served stone cold, and when we called a waiter over to tell him, he grabbed a manager who had an almost hostile and demeaning tone when stating that we ordered Salmon Eggs Benedict and it can't be served hot. Really? Stone cold eggs and cold hollandaise would cook the salmon??? Beyond ridiculous. We always had to flag down someone despite being seated next to wait station. No one ever just filled coffee, replaced the empty creamer, or asked if we wanted another bloody. They would just dump the plates and never check in. Avoid this place as I shall."

  • "We have becoming to this restaurant off an on for the past 7 years. It's been a hit or miss with each visit. This time we arrived for brunch on Saturday. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated right away. Our server was attentive and efficient, however the food took about 20+ minutes to arrive to our table. They used to serve these little muffins or breads, but it looks like they did away with that. It also seems like the restaurant may have changed ownership. When our burgers did finally arrive, they were good but the fries were overly salted. We would probably come back here for brunch, but not anytime soon when there are other options in the area to try."

  • "i love the light horse tavern. the food is very good--this is the third time I've had the raw bar and it's always been really good and worth the money. my girlfriend and i both had the trout and we loved the fennel and crab additions to it. the inside is very warm and cozy and i would even go to the bar and have a drink and an appetizer if the restaurant was too busy. i highly recommend this place."

  • "There were so many delicious-looking items on the menu, I found it hard to choose one. Once I landed on the fried calamari (not your average version) to start, my companion had the scallops with spaghettini and I had the (perfectly medium rare) ribeye. Everything was top notch and met our high expectations. The cocktail selections were interesting and delicious. Our server was very courteous and helpful recommending a good rye cocktail for me. Will be back!"

  • "Food and service were off the charts. A dozen oysters, great bottle of wine, and beef wellington. One of the best meals we have had and we can be really picky about our food. The service was great too, no rush and just pleasant. Meals can be less expensive or a little more and you wont be disappointed."

  • "I went to Light Horse Tavern as a group of 5 for a birthday dinner on a weekday night. One order was for pasta with scallops; however, the scallops were substituted with shrimp. Our waiter did not informed us that there would be this substitution in the dish. When we asked our waiter if the pasta included scallops or shrimp, he was vague, awkward, and very uncomfortable, the manager was the same way. The manager half-heartedly offered a replacement dish or a complimentary glass of wine. However, we had to chase down the complimentary glass of wine after the offer. The rest of our group found the food to be good but our experience was ruined by poor customer service and a less than relaxing meal."

  • "First time diners. Service was superb. Server very knowledgeable which was helpful, since it was our first time there. We were both very pleased with our choices. Wine and liquor list extensive and all price points. Only negative is the parking. Maybe the regulars know something we didn't know, or live locally and walk."

  • "I've had the pleasure of dining at the Light Horse on many occasions over the past three years. On this particular visit, my very good friend and I were happy to enjoy their delicious seasonal brunch offering. The banana bread with cinnamon cream was amazing because of the cream that I could have lapped up bowl after bowl of, although the banana bread itself was unremarkable. The kale and goat cheese omelet was a revelation; I would never think to put kale in an omelet but it was amazing. The beef stew with eggs over easy was also a creative twist on brunch that left my friend sated and satisfied. We had no room left for dessert, but I can attest that their desserts are fantastic and I was sad not to be able to indulge. Highly recommended!"

  • "The place is great. I have no complaints except that during the winter there is a super bad draft for the tables in the front of the Resturant. They should work on a double entrance door to stop the cold air from rushing in every time some one opens the door."

  • "All four of us enjoyed our appetizers, entrees and desserts! We felt our meal was expertly prepared and a flavor burst in every bite. My husband and I ordered steak and both could have been cooked slightly less (we ordered medium rare) but still delicious. Another party member had the venison T-bone and also said it could have been cooked less. Fish was perfect. Bread pudding was delicious. Will definitely revisit this place. Highly recommend!"

  • "We tried Light Horse Tavern during Restaurant Week. Pleasantly surprised to find the entire menu open as part of the priced fixed menu as well as full portions, as most places will cut back during Restaurant Week. Food was delicious, but the service could have been a little bit more attentive."

  • "We had booked this reservation for a party of four but at arrival the restaurants bookng system indicated a party of two. The manager was extremely unfriendly and refused to admit their was something wrong with the reservation system even after showing him proof. He proceeded to put the blame on us by suggesting that we had made the open table reservation for another day or perhaps for another tavern in jersey city. Unfortunately this is not the first time we had an issue with this manager for a Sunday brunch. We love Light Horse Tavern as it really is a neighborhood gem but to have to deal with this manager that seems to lack social skills in dealing is starting to force me to consider alternate brunch options in Jersey City."

  • "Friend & I enjoyed lunch here 1/21/14. The seating was prompt, the service was thought and attentive, but not intrusive. We both enjoyed the special chili appetizer, my friend had the steak sandwich and I the lobster sandwich. Both were very good. Bottom line is the food is good, the wait staff terrific, and there is a real comfortable feeling here. Will continue to go and enjoy."

  • "The only reason the Lighthorse didn't score a 5 for an overall experience is because they were out of a number of food items our table was interested in ordering. Our waitress was great, food delic, and staff attentive."

  • "I've lived in Paulus hook since 2004 (almost 10 years) and am moving in the spring. I have eaten at Light Horse probably over 100 times and it never disappoints. I've seen it grow and adapt to its surrounding neighborhood and customers and I will no doubt miss this place the most. From the historic pictures and rustic design to the amazing brunch to the friendly staff, it's going to be hard to find a place like this anywhere else. When my husband and I needed to pick a restaurant for date night, we decided to come here since it will no doubt be the place we miss the most."

  • "The Light Horse Tavern remains our favorite restaurant in Jersey City. Our department had a holiday lunch there and everyone raved about the food and surroundings. We were seated in front of a lit fireplace and had several delicious courses. We'll definitely be going back."

  • "We had dinner there on Christmas Eve. They were very busy, but the food was very good. The pork chop was excellent, the meatloaf was a little dry, but tasty. The mashed potatoes were excellent. The bread pudding was very good as well. Lovely décor . We really enjoy this restaurant and would recommend it."

  • "This was our 4th visit and is now officially our favorite place in the area. The food has always been excellent and the atmospher is fun and casual. The prices are reasonable. Overall, a great place to go for a quick meal, a drink at the bar or a special occasion dinner."

  • "I've lived in JC for almost 5 years and this was my first time here. Service was amazing. Our waitress was so nice, attentive and knowledgable. Food was amazing, tasty, cooked perfect. Salad was tasty, my steak was VERY good and the Creme Brulee taster dessert was so yummy. Prices are "normal", I had a 3 course meal and with tip I spent $55. Not bad at all. The only thing I did not like was that they say us in the side room. Even though it was nice, had a fire place, it did not have the same ambience that the main dining area had. But I would go back anytime."
