Diner Reviews
  • "Appetizer delivered promptly. But main course took over an hour and would not have arrive if we had not pointed out they had misplaced order. Offer of complimentary desserts as compensation was insufficient."

  • "Hostess needs more experience. I had reserved a window table the week before as we had out of town guests coming. Appeared our table had been given to a twosome who had just come in before us with no reservation. I had to collect our guests at the front as she couldn't find us once we were seated. No waiter for 15 minutes so manager took our drink order then waiter brought another round by accident. All meals good except mine (don't order the kangaroo). Service was slow until the majority of diners cleared out. Our server was personable and made up for any other faults. Great place for summer drinks on the deck so we will go back. Manager/owner(?) very polite."

  • "We went for Sunday brunch around 1 pm and almost had the place to ourselves. The location, the view and the restaurant itself are truly beautiful. The young woman who served us was perfect - friendly and helpful. However the kitchen was slow, taking about 45 minutes for simple meals, eg bacon and eggs, fish and chips, french toast. The food was ok, not outstanding, and pricey."

  • "My wife and I had an awesome evening at the Lift. Really nice atmosphere, great food and unbelievable views!! Money well spent!"

  • "My first time at Lift in a very long time and now I am wondering why I don't go there more often. Great food, great location and staff were attentive and friendly. Will be going more often from now on."

  • "5 of us were out for a special occasion dinner. Enjoyed appetizers of crab cakes, sashimi platter and tempura prawns (best!). Dinner choices got mixed reviews - sablefish was bland, sea bass was great, wild mushroom ravioli tasted wonderful but were served mixed up with too many veggies, carrots, potatoes, etc. took away from the texture and flavour of the ravioli. Chocolate mousse/sour cherry dessert was the best, pear tarte tatin tasted more like almonds than pears, truffles were delicious but tiny!"

  • "This is the spot we take Vancouver visitors. The setting is so magical - water sparkling, rowers passing by, birds, yachts passing by. The service was charming and efficient. Food is not the reason to go here but the restaurant serves a very good brunch.. Best of all you can hear each other's voices. This time it was all locals and we agreed it was a perfect spot for a gathering of old friends. Everywhere you look is a perfect view and such pleasant service, yummy Eggs Bennie."

  • "beautyful view. I have been here a couple of times, it ranged from very good service to poor and even rude. Apparently my private coment is too long, so here in public: The waiter didnt pay much attention to us. Our clients (!) kept their jackets on, and everyone started to put their scarfs on because it was really cold in the corner. After asking she turned the heat up. We had to go and tell her we are ready to order, we had to go and aks to pay the bill, we almost had to go and remind for the 2nd bottle of wine (dont need it for desert)."

  • "Besides my company, the best thing about Lift is the view, the Blue Mountain Pinot Noir and the Scallops. The mains were cool - as in cold. They came very fast that I thought they were likely reheated. Disappointed. However, I'd like to go back in the summer and sit on the patio."

  • "Lift used to be my neighbourhood go to restaurant. I move years ago and have only just recently been back. Happy to say, all the great things have not changed, location, service, and quality of food are all very good. I took a friend from out of town. I had a delicious, well prepared meal of venison with a glass wine watching the setting sun with excellent company."

  • "Our waiter was vet awkward, came by the table maybe twice the entire meal and overall did a horrific job. Although the view is nice the window next to our table was covered in spider webs and when we pointed it out to staff nothing was done about it. The good lacked flavour my steak was cold. Will not be coming again, will not be recommending it to others"

  • "My friend and I having great time in this restaurant . We both love spring mussels and venison. Definitely I will recommend this restaurant with my friends. We are planning to go back on summer time to experience the Dinner in Patio."

  • "My adult daughter and myself enjoyed a delictable dinner prior to a wine tasting event. There wasn't a spot in the restaurant that didn't have an exceptional view of Vancouver Harbour and Marina. The short ribs were heavenly and they served 1/2 price appetizers from 3-6pm. Only good thoughts were brought with us when we left the restaurant. I'd definitely recomment Lift to others and I will be returning to enjoy more of their menu in the future. ps Very funky lighted bar area! Davina"

  • "Came here for brunch on a Sunday on a trip to Vancouver. Food was good, nice selection available with fresh fruit added to your order. My wife had the special, a lobster benny, which was amazing. The Coal Harbor breakfast had a good size sausage that was delicious. Best features of this restaurant though are the view (no mountains to see because of snow, but awesome harbor view) and the service. Our server was friendly, tentative, and had showed a genuine interest in all of his guests, (saw him speaking at length with all of his tables to see how they were doing, and what their plans were for the day). The front staff was also very friendly, and just made for a great experience."

  • "Definately will come here again. I had an amazing romantic date that couldn't have been more perfect. Good was delicious and amazingly fresh. Oysters were perfect. The environment was stunning even for a late night dinner but will come during day light for the patio and stunning view. Overall, I will come here again."

  • "It had been nearly eight years since we last dined at The Lift, and that's an eternity in the restaurant business. Easy to see why the place is still in business after all that time: it's still got the same great ambience, excellent food, a lively atmosphere and the view will always be top notch, nestled right on the water in Coal Harbour. A great evening from start to finish; not cheap, but great food and wine and even better, great memories."

  • "Perfect for any occasion specially for romance. I've been to many restaurant in Vancouver Bc and here is one of the best food ever. I have been here 4 times and I had great times every and each time ate here :)"

  • "Came for our 1yr anniversary, requested a separate booth with a good view and got placed in the corner. Couldn't see anything outside because the lights inside reflected off the windows. Right in the corner there's a support beam to make matters worse. They served a valentines menu as well as the regular menu, wouldn't allow substitutions of the starter (set menu) so we got the flank steak and the double lobster tail. Both 7/10. Didn't receive any treatment for the occasion and service was ok when nobody was there, brought our entree before our apps were done and overall I would not recommend."

  • "Family was in Vancouver from the prairie's so we wanted to go to a restaurant which showcased Vancouver nicely and Lift was great! Even though it was rainy/misty outside, the location was great. We all thought it was fun that the entire menu including the wine list is on an ipad one of which was presented to each guest. Menu is good, not big but it is inclusive. Service was prompt and fun, two servers presented our meals so all plates were delivered at once, nice touch."

  • "Bad: Omelettes were cold and mine had a piece of plastic in it. The coffee was not hot. Our waiter referred to the women as "hon" and "dear". Offensive. Good: Beautiful place, gorgeous view, this was my first bad experience at this restaurant. Manager was gracious about the problems."

  • "In a city with, for a city of 2.4 MM people, disappointing few really top quality and unique restaurants at any price, Lift Bar Grill View is definitely one of the best. We look forward to returning. My only criticism would be that the wine list is a bit pricy, but if you stick to the simpler British Columbia or California wines, their prices are in line with the menu items' prices."

  • "We really enjoyed ourselves at Lift! Amazing service by Ashley! Very personable & knowledgable!! Food was delicious, could have Been a bit larger the portions. But otherwise very Good! Just when we had finished our desserts And enjoying our last sip of wine, we're we asked To move to another location to accommodate Another larger party. That part was a bit annoying But then Ashley comped a round of Merlot and made it Alright!!! Would definitely go back! Great view, very romantic!!"

  • "We visited Lift during the Dine Out Vancouver event. Our group of 5 was promptly seated and well taken care of. The "Dine Out" menus were imaginative, and included a couple of unadvertised extras - a pork amuse bouche and a mint spritzer, both of which were outstanding. My quibbles would be that (1) they only offered two options each for appetizers and entrees, and no choice of desserts. Other participating restaurants offered at least three of each. (2) Other restaurants offered specials on wine. Lift had the usual list at the usual (high) prices."

  • "We went for Dine Out Vancouver, and the food was fantastic. We did notice that those around us also ordered from that menu, seemed pretty popular. The view is fantastic being right on the water overlooking Stanley Park. Next time we go, I hope it's the summer to enjoy the large patio and unobstructed view."

  • "A friend and I both won 100 dollar gift cards from Team1040 on the Sekeres and Price show. Our experience was amazing. Excellent food, great drinks and the prices were ok. Would have been nice to see the view but it was quite foggy. That was my only disappointment. Our server was very helpful and I loved the iPad menus."

  • "Brome lake magret duck chop. The sear was spot on and it tasted great, Wasn't dry at all. For Entree the peace river free range lamb sirloin was great, was really tender yet juicy. It would be great if it came with asparagus on the side, but I had to order that separately. The only thing was that my lamb was very hard to choose as I got a piece with alot of muscle and fat pieces. During the course of the night, our server gave us complimentary wine service which was great. Will come again for lunch and check that out."

  • "I was looking for a restaurant with a view. I got there after dark so the view was of some city lights, but the food was delicious."

  • "Food and ambiance was top notch. Only downfall to the evening was the service as our waiter was very inattentive and forgetful. For example, waited a while before he came to our table to take our order. Also asked for two hot waters, and he brings us two cold waters. In addition, the waiter did not even give us our starter bread when we noticed everyone else getting a basket. Overall it was great other then the service."
    Dined on 1/19/2014
  • "Great atmosphere. Our server was amazing. It's a little too dark, hard to read the paper menus and not really a fan of the iPad menus. Using the iPad lessens the dining experience."

  • "We went for Dine out but ended up ordering from the full menu. Food and Service were excellent! We'll be back!"
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was good, but the meals we had (there were four of us) were all mediocre at best. The vegetarian pasta was cold when it arrived at the table, the short rib was bland and unispired, and the fish was just boring. Definitely will be back in the summertime for patio beverages, but wont stay for dinner."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "The restaurant was full, so service may have been a bit tardy, but it was also the start of Vancouver's restraunt week. So all in all the place was great and during regular times it would be fantastic. It is right on the water so during good weather it would be just wonderful."

  • "Not only is high quality, tasty food and great service a must for us, we are also very particular about the comfort and quality of the furniture. Being of the baby boomer age, we have the odd ache and pain that is accentuated by uncomfortable chairs. The Lift had it all! Wonderful food, great/helpful service, comfy chairs, not too noisy and if we had arrived before dark, a super view of the harbour. Will go back for sure when we are in the city!"

  • "So went here on a Friday night. Was a bit quiet but I think it was due to the heavy downpour of rain, so I don't think people were in the mood to go out. Overall the experience was good, perhaps a little too overwhelming with the I-pad menu, and the amount of wines to choose from. The food was amazing. We decided to pick four starters instead of the typical starter and main. Everything was delicious!!! Our server was awesome. Atmosphere was great. The chocolate truffles were yummy. A little bit too small for my liking but yummy nevertheless. I his place would be great in the summer."
