The menu choices gave a wide selection from which to choose and were delicious. The quantity of the food was great - no one went home hungry. Everyone gets to their own dessert so no one shared a dessert. I believe it the best value on the menu. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and customer oriented. I got the pasta trio and could not have been happier. The pre-dinner bread and dip was delicious and flavorful. They bring out 3 pans of pasta, as well as Parmesan cheese for fresh grating, and it was all superb. The one time that our candle went out, 3 seconds later, it was replaced. This was great for a romantic night out. I had some of my girlfriend's chicken cacciatore with pesto spaetsel(pardon the spelling) and that was great too. Each item on the menu is a delicacy which makes it difficult to choose which one you want to try. I always enjoy the Pasta Trio because I get to taste and eat three different items. Now to the desserts.......Oh MY..........the honeydew sorbet was a treat. It tasted like a fresh honeydew ......only BETTER! My favorite restaurant. The best service......the servers explain the menu to you in intricate detail.

We were seated near the antipasto/dessert tables filled with a wonderful selection of fresh dressed spring vegetables, platters of meats, soup, olives, and dutch ovens filled with special mussels, white beans and broccoli rabe. Everyone enjoyed the pasta served hot from pans. Even the gluten free member of our party enjoyed a delicious pasta. We found Lidia's online for things to do on Smallman Street. They love Italian food and also love to cook so we thought it would be a great treat to eat at Lidia's. I have watched Lidia on television for years and was so excited to eat at her restaurant. The place was fabulous and we had a great time. My only complaint was the caesar salad. The menu said shaved Grana Padana cheese and my mother and I both ordered the salad. It was delicious, but we both only got one little sliver of the cheese. Lidia always used the Grana Padana on her cooking show and that was why I ordered the salad. It was so tasty, I wish it would have had a few more shavings. They offer a pasta trio that is excellent. The chef prepares three different pastas each night and you get portions of all to try. The best part is you can get additional helpings. My favorite was the ravioli. My dining partner ordered the cabbage rolls and they were also very good. Service was excellent, the wine list was good and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were both very pleased with size of the servings. The salad was outstanding and complemented the dinner very nicely. The salmon was extremely good and done just right to maintain the taste. The table was to the right of the main dining area and it was noisy and hard to have a conversation with my wife. There were two busloads of people dining in the main area which made the overall atmosphere more noisy than we liked. I did not ask about parking before we arrived so we were not aware of valet parking being available. Now we know. The day before we visited I received a call from a young lady asking us if we were going to keep our reservations. Truly a delicious option, and always a different selection with each visit. My favorite this visit was the gnocchi with peas in cream sauce, but I'm still hoping to have the ravioli with braised tender beef (spare rib?) on the trio menu again. Incredible! We had a great night with our out-of-town guests who left feeling completely impressed at our local gem of a restaurant, nestled in Pittsburgh's Strip District. What a great experience to share with friends who enjoy good wine and delicious food! Marvellous preparation for a first time guest at one of Lidia's restaurants. There service was terrific and the atmosphere outstanding. We both ordered the Pasta Trio - cooks hustle around the restaurant and serve the pasta right out of the pan table-side. They also come around later to see if seconds are desired! We were also amazed at how the whole staff seemed to really hustle and concentrate on their jobs. It did take a while for the waitress to come back to take our dessert order then to have dessert served, but the restaurant got very busy due to a show at a nearby theater. If the first part of our meal was not served so efficiently, we probably would not have noticed the delay in the dessert. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly. We explained that we were about 45 minutes early but the smiling gentleman said not a problem and seated us at a window table. The service would be family style and tableside service with the choice of entrée and beverage.

It did not disappoint! Our group included our small family of three and another couple. The brunch menu offered something for everyone, including our 5 year old son. My husband had the pasta trio which included mushroom ravioli that almost made me regret ordering the filet of beef... almost. The filet was sea salt rubbed and cooked to order.
