Make a reservation. The couple that was at the counter when we arrived was told the wait would be over a hour. The food is pricey but worth it. The breads and accompanying spreads served with your meal are worth checking Lidia's out by themselves. We had the pasta trio and two other pasta dishes. All, especially the ravioli, were great. The Caesar salad dressing was the best I'd ever tasted. Food is the star but this place is big city, and an easy walk from great hotels, science museum and Jazz and Blues festival, in season. One of the three on this particular evening (can't remember the name) was just so-so, but the other two were fantastic - everyone wanted second helpings on the stuffed ravioli and the other one - some fettucine dish. I was a little dismayed by the wine prices, but I realize that's just how it is at places like this - $60 for a bottle of wine that you can probably get for $10 at a wine store. I really appreciate how easy it was to make reservations through this opentable.com system - Lidia's even called me several hours before to confirm. When we walked thru the door and announced who we were and our reservation time the host wished both my wife and myself a Happy Anniversary. The person who seated us did the same. Our table was specially decorated for the occasion and was in a perfect location for a romantic dinning experience. Our Server also greeted us in the same manner. The food was excellent and upon finishing our meal, we were pleasantly surprised by the presentation of our dessert. The time between courses was excessive, so much so that i had to inquire as if food was ever going to arrive after the salad course.
The service was not quite as attentive as it should be in a place of this caliber. They also didnt provide steak knives to cut the dishes that required them....they also do not offer the frill service of pepper grinding or extra parmesan cheese.
Quite a few of us ordered the Pasta Trio...which was excellent....but they did not bring it around very often as they said they would.

On this night it seemed that the wait staff was a little short staffed or perhaps our reservation was at an odd time and we started our meal when everyone else was winding down which presented some issues for the wait staff. The Pasta Trio was fantastic as always. I ordered the gnocchi as I usually do and it was good but quite salty. Almost to the point where I could barely taste the pasta trio items that I tried. Either way it was still a fantastic meal at a fantastic establishment. The ambience and environment were spot-on perfect for a business dinner. The wine selection is well done, with something to satisfy any palate.
Portions were good size and came out fairly quickly. The wait staff were attentive but not intrusive. They had a firm grasp on the various menu items, as well as specials and could speak in detail to any questions asked by the table.
