Third or forth time eating here. The food was comfort food as usual. The server was abysmal - simply was not present to her job. Did not even mention the special of the evening. No courtesy when approaching the table and asking how the evening was. Forgot a drink order and had to be asked. Not attentive when drinks when empty. Basically could have cared less that her livelihood was seated at the table. The gratuity reflected the effort put in by the server - 10% effort gets 10% tip - and that was even generous.

I love the atmosphere at Liberty Cafe, it's like dining at a friends house who can really cook! I had the wild striped bass with kale and yukon chips this trip. It was so delicious I have to rate it as one of my favorite dishes ever. The roasted beet salad to start was dressed perfectly, and dotted with yummy toasted (and candied?) walnuts. The server let me taste the wine before I committed to order a glass. I can't understand why it wasn't more crowded on a Friday night, but on the other hand I could enjoy our conversation, so that was a big plus. Great service, fantastic food, beautiful setting.

I've been coming to the Liberty Cafe for a long time; it's that special neighborhood place. Unfortunately it wasn't the other night. The service was slow and unaatentive The cassoulet was a watery soup. The chicken pot pie lacked chicken. The fish tacos were good though. The banana cream pie was delicious but overpriced for the size of the slice. When I made the reservation, I told them it was my partner's birthday. I thought they’d put a candle in the dessert and sing "Happy Birthday," instead the server said "Happy Birthday” to me as he handed me the check. That sums up the night.

I had a very good caesar salad with a well prepared piece of sea bass (very moist, but a tad small portion size). My partner's hamburger was a bit underwhelming particularly for the price of $15, but stll acceptable in general. Great value on the house petit syrah.

We went here for Valentine's day and it was a total nightmare. The place is nice, quaint, and the food is good. The kitchen and service are just overworked and slow. It took an hour for 2 pot pies. When they finally came they gave us 2 chicken pot pies when we ordered a chicken and vegetarian one. The couple two tables over came in minutes after us waited just as long and ended up getting our vegetarian pot pie instead of their chicken one. We all left frustrated and disappointed. The place has great potential and should have been a great place to go that night, but the long waits just really ruins it.

This restaurant used to be a gem. We dined here often when we lived in the area and haven't been back for years. I think the original owner must have sold this restaurant because there is not the same attention to excellent food that the original chef had. The original caesar salad was the best I've ever had in my life. Perfect dressing, perfect lettuce, shaved parmesan, perfect presentation. The one I had this weekend was tasty, but a mess. Dressing, lettuce not as good. Only two croutons. Grated cheese instead of shaved. The chicken pot pie was the bigger disappointment. Hardly any chicken. No carrots. The pastry was good, but that was about it. It seems the cost-cutting measures have undercut the excellence of this restaurant.

The atmosphere was nice, the service was good, the appetizers were very good, but the main entrees missed the mark. The crust on the chicken pot pie was gummy as if it had been overworked. My boyfriend's entree was similarly "off". Come here for appetizers and salad!

I have eaten at Liberty Cafe more than a handful of times over the years and have always enjoyed my dining experience until last Saturday night. The waitress was inattentive. She did not tell us what the specials were. We were at the table for 10 min. before she offered us bread. My husband ordered iced tea and they were out. We waited 45 min. for our food to arrive to the table and my husbands chicken pot pie was cold! The waitress did take it off the bill but when I noticed we were charged for the iced tea, I politely asked the waitress if the price was the same as the Coke he ordered instead and she said "I know" with attitude and walked away. Unfortunately Liberty has lost it's luster with me.

At first it seemed cramped, but eventually I realized it was cozy and I'm just a beast. Food was excellent, particularly the Chicken Pot Pie, which they are rightfully famous for. The pulled pork sliders were a little dry -- I would have liked a dab more of the excellent sauce the pork was cooked in. The fish tacos were also excellent, but might have benefited from some kind of taco holder to keep the tortillas from getting overly soggy before you get a chance to eat them. Dessert (banana cream pie and gingerbread cake) was outstanding. The crust on the pie is one of the best I've ever had.

Liberty Cafe was recommended by a friend. It took me awhile to get there but it was worth it. Varied and reasonably priced wine list. Yummy food. Nice service. And a laid-back, casual atmosphere that was restrained and classy at the same time. Perfect for a "regular" go-to spot or fir a special occasion. No attitudes. And the brownie dessert was PERFECT. I can't say enough.

I've been going to the Liberty since they first opened. It's especially good for dinner, (more so than brunch). Generally, it has been very good over the years, with a few minor hiccups along the way. Their menu has been a consistent mix of innovative dishes to their classic, excellent standards, ie: the cesear salad & chicken pot pies. They have always had a good wine selection & interesting & yummy desserts. The bakery & wine bar in the back is lots of fun both morning & night for quick bites & a different atmosphere. They have 2 sister restaurants in the neighborhood, Vega & Vino Rosso.

We live just south of SF and are always looking for great restaurants close to home. We have wanted to try Liberty Cafe many times and finally had the dinner opportunity. Two of us shared 3 small plates and found that there was plenty of food. The fish tacos and arugula salad were wonderfully seasoned and so fresh. We had an ahi appetizer which was too light on the ahi and too heavy on the creamy dressing. The flavors were excellent, just covered in more cream than we would have preferred. Each member of the 4 person serving staff were a team and they all waited on us and were quite attentive and very friendly. We will definitely return and highly recommend Liberty Cafe!

We're always hesitant to eat out with our 2.5 year old daughter and we usually feel like we're imposing when we do. But our server, as well as another server not working our table, helped entertain out daughter with kids books and a bunch of smiles. We definitely go back just for that reason. We actually thought to ask if they babysat too. Oh, and the food was very good too. We shared a very nice arugula salad and my wife had fish tacos and I had an ahi appetizer. Maybe a little too much of their sauce on the ahi. But it was good.

A small place, warm and cozy. Busy but good for early dinner. Appears to have "regulars," with good reason. Fair pricing and good food; menu is interesting still not too exotic. Portions ample without being overwhelming. The tables are small, space is tight, and that seems to add to the neighborly feeling. Wait staff friendly, and efficient while a little rushed getting into the dinner hours. I would return.

I recommend the funghi (portabella) fries (served with a dipping sauce that could have had more kick), the scallops with clams, chorizo (again too mild), fresh corn (called seasonal vegetables), and a tasty cream sauce. The ahi small plate was a hit, but the roasted chicken main dish was not. The wild boar was reportedly very good as well. No time for dessert, but the banana cream pie looked interesting.

I had eaten here in years past, talked it up to friends, and then when I came back, found the food to be disappointing. I should have known when it was so easy to get in at dinner time (it used to have a line waiting outside) that it wasn't as good as it used to be. The friend chicken was boring, not crispy, floating literally in some sort of broth! What the heck??!! Fried chicken in BROTH? The fish taco was pretty good, but the kale that I ordered with it was so limp it was unrecognizable. Seemed more like frozen spinach than fresh kale.

Really enjoyed food at Liberty Cafe in past years. This time the pastry on their signature chicken pot pie came out burned. Also, the menu still says they use "homemade puff pastry" for the pie. It wasn't puff pastry. We asked the waiter who checked with the cook who said it was regular pastry. The cilantro crusted fish tacos tasted fine but no cilantro. The cook "forgot it". The waiter was very accommodating but not well informed. Told us there was no dessert special. A little later he corrected himself because another server told him what the special was.
