Diner Reviews
  • "The food at Libertad is excellent and the presentation is spectacular. The servers are very friendly and interested in feedback. The know the food and wines very well. We will become frequent diners at this new spot."

  • "Overall a great experience at Libertad. Excellent food, and they have a nice patio in back. My only issue is with the prices. Very expensive - about $75 per person."

  • "I've never had a bad meal at Libertad. Recently visited with a friend - we shared 2 salads (1 with watercress, 1 with pear), the asada steak and the crab cake - all excellent. Service was very good as always. The ambience was fine but I deducted a star because when we arrived (early in the evening), the restaurant was mostly empty, yet we were seated at a table for two only inches from other diners, even though there was free space elsewhere. By the time we left, the space had filled up, but it would have been nice to have a little elbow room. Guess next time we'll bring a 3rd person so we aren't wedged into the 2-tops along the wall."

  • "5 baby boomer girls out to celebrate 2 birthdays! Loved the patio seating! Great food, great service, great neighborhood treasure...can get pricey if you order too many of those amazing drinks...but well worth it! Seasonal menu, but some menu items remain constant. Our menu favorites...the Poblano Appetizer and the Sea Bass!! They were amazing! Only criticism...they were out of one of the desserts we wanted, however the 2 we had - chocolate fudge cake w ice cream and crime brûlée, we're delicious! And, they comped dessert because of our birthday celebrations! It was a beautiful night and we enjoyed their lovely, but small patio without ever feeling rushed!"

  • "Food, cocktails, ambiance and service all terrific. It's pricey but worth it. We started with the pear salad then camarones with purple cauliflower, fennel and pumpkin seeds and the scallops on a bed of black rice with string beans. Presentation is beautiful and everything was delicious. Also ordered the carmelized banana with banana creme brulee. Good but probably not my favorite. Also had the chocolate lava cake (comped) for my friend's birthday. Lovely evening. Would love to try the patio some time but Saturday was very windy and heavy storms coming our way. Looking forward to the next visit. Unless your kid is a very adventuresome eater -- this is not a place you should bring children. Mature food and atmosphere."

  • "Been here for brunch many times. Finally had the opportunity to do dinner -- glad I did! Food was inventive and tasty. Had a wonderful watercress salad with perfectly ripe avocado, croutons and radishes. Simple but a perfect starter. The calabaza plate was baked acorn squash with a wild mushroom risotto dressed with truffle oil. I ate it skin and all. So good I wanted to lick the plate. Flavors were perfectly balanced. Husband had roasted chicken breast and the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and matchstick fries. He thoroughly enjoyed both! Desserts looked scrumptious but we were full -- next time! Only disconnect for me was the 80s soundtrack music but with food so good -- who cares? I lived through the 80s, I can do again."

  • "Excellent service Beautiful evening, almost no one was eating indoors! Want to go back again and try different dishes for variety Loved the calabasa"

  • "This was our second experience here. The first time was outstanding but this time was just very good. The food presentation is beautiful and service great. We had a few issues with some of the dishes we ordered. The glaze on the shrimp was outstanding, but the shrimp were overcooked and the glaze didn't spread to the veggies underneath since it was basically seared onto the shrimps' head. This was our error in ordering. The hummus and lomo are both very good but the lomo has a bean puree too which after hummus was a lot of bean puree. The avocado salad and roja margarita were excellent. I'm sure we will return but we may stick with what we loved the first time, the steak with chimichurri sauce, and the chicken flautas."

  • "What great food. Our party of 4 had the Poblano, sea bass, steak, lamb chops and a couple of other sides. All were incredibly flavorful. The room is on the noisy side so it was difficult to hear the waitress. Service was efficient though not overly warm. Like I said it was hard to hear the wait staff. Had to go on Open Table for a reservation more than 3 weeks in advance to get a 7:30 Saturday night reservation. I will definitely go back."

  • "We had a great meal at Libertad. I was very impressed by the food quality and the the service. I was surprised that this restaurant was in Skokie. It feels like a hip city restaurant."

  • "We were here on Saturday evening. Vibrant crowd. Loved the shared plates! We had acorn squash, octopus, and braised pork shoulder. All delicious and wonderful sauces and accompanying veggies. Excellent service. Will definitely return."

  • "I originally attended this restaurant as a late night desert and drink respite. The management was friendly The food was good This time, I was introducing out-of-town guests. We booked our reservation We were called and reminded that somebody must be they are exactly at the reservation time. The rest of the party arrived within 30 minutes We began ordering food immediately The owner's representative approached us with the following statement. We must be off of the table by 7:30 PM. They are quite busy and the reservation is expected to be gone within 2 hours They could not have us occupy their space for more than that time. We concluded the meal at another location I will let the readers decide how they would manage the situation"

  • "Our reservations were terribly early for dinner but we were able to sit outback on a great evening. Not one bad choice on the menu ... highlights were the Asada steak and the Hummus ... drinks were awesome and our server Gabriel was adorable"

  • "Food was very tasty and well-prepared, but due to small portions, was not fully satisfying. The simple addition of an inexpensive side (rice, potato, vegetable, etc.) would result in a better overall experience. The hummus had a very interesting smoked flavor that was unique to the dish and delicious. The poblano tasted very freshly prepared. The fish was delicious, but a tiny portion. The restaurant is very convenient to attending events at the Skokie Theatre."

  • "Third time here, first two with wife. This time brought our kids who are high school/college age. Tried some usual favorites (hummus, pear salad, rack of lamb) along with a couple new. A new favorite is the mushroom risotto in an acorn squash shell. Also tried the Chilean sea bass. Although I personally am not a fish eater except for tuna out of a can and the occasional Filet-o-Fish, this was good stuff. Always enjoy the rack of lamb. Got the chocolate cake dessert which was excellent. I couldn't finish, not because it was huge but because I was already pretty full and the cake was quite rich. No drink this time but usually order the sangria which is light and fruity and not overly sweet as some can be. Everyone enjoyed, ready to go back!"

  • "I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. I even took my parents along who are picky eaters and they enjoyed everything they tried! The aguacate salad, the sea bass, and the chicken were our favorite dishes this visit."

  • "Our evening at Libertad was most enjoyable. The waitress realized it was our first time there and did a great job of recommending the number of dishes as well as which ones she thought we'd like. The first dish was a soup served in a cappuccino style cup. It was outstanding and had a spicy flavor. The hummus was exceptional though there was only 1 large pita for dipping and our group really enjoyed the carne asada. We asked about the chicken mole and were disappointed that it was not on the menu. We also enjoyed the scallops and the chicken poblano. All in all, the dishes were quite creative and had interesting flavors that we liked. The only drawbacks were the noise level and the price of some of the entrees."

  • "Food was excellent but two drawbacks. They did not have the wine onein the party wanted and second we felt rushed. They said they would be changing there menu in the next couple of days so they were out of the wine. In the past, they usually only bring one menu item at a time when the party is group dining. This time they brought 2 entrees and when one was finished brought the next and the same with the last choice. Since we were celebrating my birthday we wanted dessert but told them we wanted to wait a bit before ordering. They came back twice before we ordered. You could tell they wanted to turnover the table but we wanted to enjoy each other's company and the experience. The outdoor dining was lovely and more quiet than inside."

  • "Very nice place but not for a romantic dinner. The tables are small and close to each other which is not really an issue, but it gets loud at some point. I enjoyed each meal and the size of each dish was just perfect. The Aguacate as an appetizer tasted delicious, Spanish octopus - Pulpo was cooked perfectly and of course the desert: Tarta de Planto - a thick slice of banana plus small vanilla brûlée pastry, whipped cream so it is not overwhelmingly large but still large enough to share."

  • "I really was a afraid that I would not enjoy our dinner at Libertad due to the extremely loud dining area. I had asked to be seated at a booth, (a banquet would have worked too) but all the tables along the far wall were taken so we were seated in the center of the dining room, adjacent to the open kitchen. The noise was horrid and we were not happy. My husband walked out to the patio, noticed a table that was open and fortunately we moved outside. That saved the evening. It was quiet and so we could enjoy the wonderful food we ordered. Not sure how diners manage to sit indoors. Loved the food! "

  • "For four of us our waitress recommended two plates per person to share. We ended up ordering 7, not counting dessert, and it was plenty. I recommend the Aguacate watercress salad, Pulpo octopus, Labena Chilean Sea bass (was outstanding) and the Asada Skirt steak. We also ordered the Costillas rack of lamb that only had two lamb chops....not much to share amongst 4 people...was barely enough for two. I would definitely go back to try other menu selections. Overall food was very good....a bit salty for those who are on low sodium diets. "

  • "Libertad offers delightful Latin cuisine. A delicate and yummy pea soup was offered as an amuse-bouche. We shared a scrumptious salad with crunchy strips of Asian pear, caramelized pecans, and cheese with an excellent and tangy balsamic vinaigrette. We loved the tender, beautifully sauteed scallops atop buttery black rice with yuzo-habenero sauce; long beans tied in a chic knot was the accompaniment. Our only complaint: their website displays a photo with three scallops while we got only two. Chicken flautas followed, crisp but not greasy, with a tasty tomatillo sauce for dipping. There's rack of lamb with farro, skirt steak with chimichurri, chilean sea bass, and more. A caramelized banana dessert was tempting: another time! "

  • "I saw the restaurant in Check, Please! And I was curious to try it out. My boyfriend and I had made reservations that day and it was a good idea because the place was packed! I highly recommend the hummus. It has a different twist to the usual hummus in Mediterranean restaurants. The crowd were energetic. The noise died down by 9pm. The servers were all nice and quick to get our finished plates to make way for the next food. Their margaritas were absolutely amazing! We tried the margarita roja. The place is good for special occasions and girls night out. It is not inexpensive but the food, drinks and service are worth it."

  • "4th time we've journeyed to Skokie to try one of our favorite places. Once again Libertad did not disappoint! We sat out on the patio for the first time and really enjoyed the quieter ambiance and beautiful evening. Server was really good, attentive and friendly, but didn't get her name. Only thing slightly off was the pulpo, I order it each time we are there and on Friday evening it was a little rubbery or maybe over cooked. Server recommended the brunch, so we'll have to check that out soon..."

  • "This was our third time at Libertad and we're impressed with the tasty cocktails, decent beer and wine list and really flavorful food. The dish sizes are perfect for two although bigger than tapas-style plates. Good vegetable dishes. The seafood entrees are particularly flavorful. We weren't too fond of the texture of the sinewy skirt steak (done medium-rare) but the chicken and lamb were good. We'll be back!"

  • "We absolutely loved the food at Libertad, especially the Camarones...they were fantastic. The margaritas were also topnotch - really, really good. The service was not friendly at all. They have limited seating inside, and tried to wedge us into a tiny booth seat, surrounded by 2 large, loud groups, and my husband asked for a new table. The host was rude about it, and finally consented to letting us sit outside. He obviously told our server that we were going to be a difficult table, because she was totally rude the entire meal...gave us a real attitude like she didn't want us there. I hope they can get the service thing together, because the food is outstanding."
