Getting there

  • Cross Street: Wisconsin Avenue
  • Public Transit: Friendship Heights metro (red line) located 1 block away on cross streets Western Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue. Walk one block north on Wisconsin Avenue to Willard and we are at 4435 Willard Avenue in the Ritz-Carlton building. Look for our outdoor patio and red awnings.

  • Parking Details: Valet parking ($8) available after 5pm. Reduced rate self park with validation available for both lunch and dinner. Use Chase Tower Parking Garage. Entrance is just around the corner from LIA'S on The Hills Plaza Road. Look for the red LIA'S Parking sign. The lot is below the restaurant. Take elevator to main lobby and exit the main doors. LIA'S is just to the left.

  • "I booked this spot because i was looking for a great location for brunch. Lia's met my needs and accommodated my large party, with bouncing kids and all. Our waitress, Nicole was polite and eager to make our experience pleasant. I even got a little card and chocolates for my birthday, which was a surprise for me. We really enjoyed it. The food was good! Brunch is pretty simple, but our entire party was content including some really fussy kids."

  • "Lia's continues to come close but just doesn't quite get there. Restaurant is very nice but food should be better considering Chef Geoff's reputation. Salads were good but nothing special. The Rockfish Puttanesca contained a very nice piece of fish but the sauce was heavy and laden with fingerling potatoes which created just too much starch for so delicate an entree. The pasta dishes were also a bit heavy, and the portions were really larger than they needed to be. There was very little that was innovative or notable, at least in the dishes we had. Geoff really needs to more closes supervise the menu here and step it up a bit."

  • "I will admit that I am a tough reviewer, but here goes. I have been to Lia's about 4 or 5 times in total, and it seems to have gone downhill. My last couple of meals weren't so good, and I probably won't go back. This time our table had two entrees. The Hanger Steak Caesar Salad - the steak was good but the salad was like salad in a bag from the grocery store, right down to the hard tasteless parmesan shreds, and packaged croutons. The Pasta Carbonara with poached egg on top - okay, but the egg broke into unappealing chunky bits and some of the pasta strands were clumped together. Also, the great focaccia and breadsticks that used to come in the bread basket are gone, replaced with boring bread."

  • "My group and I were disappointed that the cheese in our risotto balls was not melted/heated through. THe same thing happened with the cheese on the grilled cheese sandwich that I ordered. The bread was perfectly toasted, but the cheese wasn't melted at all. The sandwich was cold inside. One of the waiters bopped the back of the head of a woman in my group. He apologized, but still..."

  • "This was our 2nd visit to Lia's. Food was very good but drinks need work. Ordered a gin and tonic which had way too much ice (not cubes) , a dry lime wedge and a stupid shaped glass (too small). A drink you would find in a single's bar. Stick with a glass of wine instead"

  • "I've been to Lia's a couple of times before, so when looking for a place to dine to celebrate a special occasion, I thought it'd be a good choice. However, I was honestly a bit underwhelmed. The first thing I noticed was how there was no background noise, only a room filled with conversation. The service itself wasn't great: our server was rarely around, didn't check up on us enough, and was very bland in her service, giving short answers, while pushing high priced items without much support for them. The food was probably my biggest disappointment. I thought that the current menu wasn't as good as some past menu's I had experienced. Overall, I expected more and left feeling a bit let down for the amount spent ($200 for 3 of us)."

  • "We were seated in the rear dining room at 8:30. It was busy, with a large party seated nearby. The food was pretty good, but the dining experience was far less pleasant than being seated on the outdoor patio due to the deafening level of conversation. We essentially had to shout across the table to be heard. The room design with hard surfaces and high ceilings amplifies sound to the point of being quite oppressive. And to top off the experience, when asked for salad dressing "on the side", our waiter had the kitchen lightly dress the side of the salad instead of bringing dressing in a separate serving dish..."

  • "We visited Lia's for the second time and found that,like the first, the welcome was warm, the service was outstanding and the food was delightful. My husband had beef carpaccio and wild mushroom ravioli and I had prosciutto and chicken Milanese. We were both impressed with the dishes...this kitchen delivers the goods! Afterwards, we shared a pair of chocolate cannoli and perfect espresso. The evening could not have been improved upon... Lovely food, an attractive room and staff who are friendly, efficient and impeccably trained made it memorable. Can't wait until we'll be able to visit DC again for another fine experience at Lia's."

The servers acknowledged our special day but did not go overboard....just the right balance. They even treated us to dessert and brought us a greeting card. The food was delicious.   • "We arrived about 7 and were shown to our table straight away. There were 2 large parties in the restaurant (another joined later). Our service was a little slow to get going because there was only one waitress for the entire room. Another one turned up later, but we felt that the management could have helped these two women out. They were rushed off their feet. Despite this, we had a great experience & the food was really superb. We got all the attention we needed, with a big smile on top. Thanks!"

We go often, and enjoy most everything, but the barley soup on the specials list was overly salty and reminiscent of canned soup, and the pasta special sounded delicious, but was not up to Lia's standards. Otherwise, a great meal for the others ordering some of the standards on the menu, and outstanding service coupled with gracious flexibility on the fluctuating size of our dinner party. We will certainly and happily be back again, and focus more on the great "standby" strengths on the menu."

  • "Lia's is our go-to for great Italian food and great service. My most recent visit I met a friend for lunch and she had her infant w/her. They were VERY accommodating. They have a few menu items that are unique to their lunch service. I had a delicious mozzy grilled cheese w/soup combo which also comes w/a small arucola salad on the side. The fried green tomato BLT is a must! Normally I go to Lia's for dinner and sit in the bar. I like the atmosphere better than the restaurant. The service can be a bit slower esp on a busy night, but servers and bartenders are always energetic and extremely nice. They're pretty funny too! It's slightly louder than the dinning room, but it's more casual, so it's great if you want to show up in gym clothes!"

  • "Although Lias didn't have the truffle butter popcorn that one can experience at Chef Geoff's in McLean, the resturant still had the grace and elegance that I have come to know in one of Chef Geoff's resturants. Impeccable service, white linen, quiet ambiance (with a very lively bar) and wonderful, comforting food. The pumpkin risotto (minus the short ribs for this vegetarian) were excellence on a plate. If you are looking for excellence - look no further - just make sure you have a reservation!"

She walked by our table several times before acknowledging us; she had to be asked to identify the three different types of sauces that arrived with our biscuits, and toward the end of the meal, she just disappeared. There were several empty tables so the slow service was perplexing."

  • "Lia's is the best of the Chef Geoff's chain, and so well located. Only two minuters walk to Bloomingdale's or Whole Foods! The food is consistently good, as are the wines which are also reasonably priced, an increasingly unisusal scenario in the DC area! The service is unfailingly polite and the servers bend over backwards to be helpful, even providing my daughter - a "picky eater" as she herself explained! - with an extra-large serving of "sprinkles" to go with her ice cream."
