Diner Reviews
  • "My Daughter and I shared two of the appetizers and the combo entree. The portions were ample and delightfully seasoned. The olive oil gave the hummus a delightful sparkle. Stuffed grape leaves were terrific. The chicken, lamb, and beef kabobs were tender, perfectly cooked and delightfully seasoned. We had a dessert. All I can say - it was sinfully good. The service was prompt, appropriately attentive, and the best part - Happy. The location on King Street is really handy for downtown meals."

  • "My husband and I stumbled upon this while in downtown Charleston. I have not had the opportunity to eat Lebanese food for awhile and it was a welcome change to to try new things. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. We will be back next time we are in Charleston."

  • "Interested to try something new, I wandered over to Leyla'a. After a warm and inviting welcome, the host and waitress went out if their way to walk me through the menu and make recommendations. The food was fresh, flavorful and well presented. With each passing dish, I became even more excited to try the next one. Can't wait to return!"

  • "Just a great place to dine. Family operated and service was off the chart! Eclectic menu and deserts that are second to none."

  • "We ended up at Leyla's when another restaurant didn't pan out at the last minute. They were great. They were able to accommodate our group of 9 with no trouble. They offered to let my father taste a dish he was considering. They explained many of the options and customs as well as made personal recommendations. The menu was extensive and enjoyable. We tasted lots of new combinations that night! The kiddos even found a favorite - sanboosik and french fries!"

  • "Excellent food, service and place, the only recommendation the menu was a bit confusing. Love the place and I plan to go back there"

  • "The food there was excellent. The only issues I had were with the price and portion size. If the portions were bigger the price would be justifiable."

  • "If you are looking for an authentic departure from the fabulous cuisine options that Charleston, SC has to offer, Leyla's is a real keeper!"

  • "I would say not impressed.. there was no special décor, no special music- actually no music at all. We had 6 people to eat & drink. I had a drink that was highly recommended by our waitress which I could NOT tolerate & the establishment refused to take it off the bill because I was "Described" what was in it- sorry that "you don't care for it". I ordered another $10 drink and was charged for both. There was nothing special about the cuisine that I have not had before. We were hoping to have a sampler plate but not for $25 PER PERSON- 2 people minimum- for just tabooleh, hummos, stuffed grape leaves, baba ghannouj, falafel, olives and cheese...why not just say it's $50 for 2!? The people I was with were also in shock about the experience :("

  • "Frog legs = amazing!!! Chef's Hummos is incredible!"

  • "The best hummus ever! And the fish special was outstanding! So great that Charleston is branching out from the standard southern fare. "

  • "We will return to Charleston soon to eat here again. Yes, it is that good. The quality of the cuisine is excellent flavored with the freshest extra virgin olive. The service was warm and caring. Solo diners were treated very well which is not something all restaurants do. The menu is extensive and the staff take the time you need to describe dishes. The owner is gracious and checks frequently on guests. Desserts are worth the calories!"

  • "Wonderful food and the service was outstanding. Our server was very helpful as this was our first time in trying Middle Eastern food. The owner was very friendly and stopped at our table twice to check on our experience. The only negative was the cost of the per glass wine. We felt it was a bit excessive. This will not cause us to not return; in fact we're expecting to do so very soon. A bottle might have been more economical; however with four persons having different tastes this was not a logical decision."

  • "Dinner at Leyla's was fantastic! We arrived at 6:15 with a Spoleto festival dance performance starting at 8pm; sound like a challenge? Not for Leyla's! Our server (Anna I think) was amazing, imagine taking 11 entree orders without notes and pulling it all off, on a busy evening, in plenty of time to make the dance. We started with variety of hummus dishes and a baba ganoush for the table. Then we all had either hot mezzo dishes or full entrees. The whole fish dishes were amazing looking as were all of the dishes. I ventured to the frog legs and lamb tongue. Both delicious, with wonderful spices. The Lebanese wine was superb and the owners came by many times to make sure we were well taken care of. A fantastic ***** dining experience!"

  • "We went to Leyla with another couple for a pre-concert dinner. Unfamiliar with Lebaneese food, we relied on the expertise of our wonderful waiter, who did not disappoint. All of his recommendations were fantastic. Both couples ordered an appetizer and one entree which gave us the opportunity to try several dishes. Everything was flavorful and delicious. We even treated ourselves to dessert which again did not disappoint. I will return to Leyla and have already recommended it to friends. The owners work very hard to make sure the dining experience is memorable. "

  • "So exciting to have Lebanese in downtown Charleston! The owner, Dolly is the best--right there checking on you and making sure all is great. The menu is HUGE-- perhaps the biggest drawback. So many choices! That said, the Lebnah (sp) is great--go the straightforward route, it is wonderful with everything, the Lebanese salad outstanding, the moussaka fabulous and the lamb kabobs literally melt in your mouth! "

  • "As usually the attention from the family of owners was outstanding. They knew we had time constraints and made sure we were out on time. A reason to keep coming back."

  • "We enjoyed this restaurant very much. The Fattoosh salad was fresh,fresh!.....and the lamb kabob was possibly the best I've ever had. We were there during Spoleto and the hostess was very attentive, asking if we were heading to a performance (we were) and inquiring about the time, seemed interested in meeting our time constraints. Staff were all pleasant and seemed to work together...it was a pleasant experience."

  • "We ate at Leyla for lunch and were very impressed! The preparation was extremely well done with fresh foods and complex flavors. The service was outstanding and owners very anxious to please. It is great to see Charleston restaurants moving into ethnic foods. We will return to Leylas on our frequent visits to Charleston. "

  • "Leyla was the perfect place for our dinner. I asked for a quiet and romantic table and that was exactly what we got - by far the best table in the house. Food was delicious, meat was so tender that you did not need a knife, and it was perfectly spiced. Deserts were artfuly presented and really tasty. Wine was excellent and the service was impecable. We will be dining at Leyla when we visit Charleston next time."

  • "Phenomenal food! So wonderful to have Lebanese in the area. If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it might be their baba ghanouj. As another reviewer mentioned, the service is both attentive and attractive. "

  • "Fine food is always the focus when we visit Charleston, and our discovery of Leyla Lebanese Cuisine on a recent trip was a wonderful surprise. The King Street restaurant, open for about eight months, offers a large assortment of delicious dishes that put you in mind of "comfort food" as you are savoring delightful tastes. The staff is quite knowledgable about menu offerings. They are also friendly, courteous, and eager to make your dining experience a pleasant one. The owner will likely visit your table to welcome you and make certain that you are comfortable. If you are looking for really good food that is a taste-tempting departure from other Charleston eateries, then you really owe it to yourself to give Leyva a try. Youwill be pleased!"

  • "Made a reservation here based on other reviews. It was a Wednesday night and the reservation was not needed. Sat in the window. The waiter was very helpful with suggestions for both wine and food. Had a wonderful vegetarian plate that included hummos, baba ghanoush, falafel and grape leaves. Also ordered a side dish of eggplant stuffed with walnuts at the waiter's suggestion. Everything was tasty."

  • "Charleston is full of wonderful restaurants with Southern maverick charm. To find great Lebanese food in the heart of downtown is amazing and a great chance to mix it up a bit when dining in town. The menu is large and varied and the staff is very willing to explain any unfamiliar dishes. Portions are generous, many would be happy to explore and share a variety of small plates. We are eagerly looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "This was our first experience dining out at a Lebanese restaurant. The hummus was particularly outstanding. I don't think we can look at another supermarket version the same way again. Our server recommended trying the vegetable platter because it offers a sampling of several items. Fantastic! We will definitely return when we travel to Charleston again."

  • "We had such a wonderful dinner that we are ready to go back soon. Not many places have frogs legs on the menu and they were wonderful. The hard part was choosing what to order - too many good choices. Everything we had was good - even the leftovers we brought home. "
