L'ExpressA taste of Paris in Montreal! The service was excellent*. Our meals all looked and tasted fantastic. We all loved the gherkins! The garden salade was fresh and topped with just enoegh delicious (oil and vinegar) vinaigrette My steak was prefectly done and tasted amazing! The caramel dessert had that Wow! factor. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a real Parisian restaurant in Montreal. The restaurants website was also very impressive. The online reservation was fast and easy to do.
*We received lots of fresh bread but had to ask for plates to put the bread on. My wife had read that we should expect that to happen.
We look forward to coming back.12/3/2013 12:00:00 AML'Express will transport youL'Express will transport you to Paris of the 1940's. They have created and maintained a truly Bistro atmosphere; checkered floor, hand written menu, fantastic warmth, food and service.Leave any pretention at the door; this place is old school "classiques" served right with service to match. When a pot of Sel de Camargue arrives alongside the Os a Molle (roasted bone marrow) you know you can sit back and just enjoy...someone knows what they are doing! If the 2 hour lunch still exists..this is the perfect place to wile away that time.9/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDijonnaisHave been eating here for over 30 years and it has kept to its roots as a Bistro.
The thing is that it is RELIABLE.Food always good, service always impeccable.
Only regret I have is that the menu has strayed from the Dijonnais. Would like to see "Cassoulet" again.8/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were terribly under-dressedWe were terribly under-dressed (we were heading to a rock show immediately after) and had trouble with our French, but we were treated with fantastic, unbiased service. The food was tasty, well seasoned, well proportioned, and well worth the higher sticker price. My friend had the fish soup and sea bass which must have been delicious because she practically licked her plates. I had the warm goat cheese salad (tremendous cheese, pleasingly bitter endive) and the hanger steak (perfectly crispy frittes, yummy house-made lemoney mayo, tender steak). For dessert I splurged on the lemon tart and was well rewarded :)
Next time I'm in Montreal, I will make every effort to return!8/3/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic bistro fareI had the grilled chicken with mustard sauce, a simple dish but difficult to get just right. The chicken was succulent, well cooked, juicy with a delicious browned edge. The sauce had a wonderful piquant flavour. I also liked how there was plenty of baguette and a jar of tiny cornichons to start with. The green beans and potatoes were a good accompaniment. Bravo!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTraditional French brasserieThis is a small (compared to Paris) brasserie-style restaurant, bustling and lively. Service for our group of 8 conference-goers was outstanding: highly capable, quick, everything there without asking. They generated separate checks that distributed wine and shared desserts--amazing (e.g., 2/7 bottle of wine charge). The food was solid, well-prepared French classics (steak tartar, steak frites, frisee salad, mussels, etc). A fun, satisfying meal in a place enjoyed by locals as well as visitors.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAm I in Paris?Wonderful French comfort food served knowledgably and attentively in a typical and very attractive French brasserie setting. There are always some specials, but the regular menu seems never to change and can be counted on like an old friend much as the restaurant itself. Super and fairly priced winelist focusing on but not entirely devoted to French producers. But, why deviate from the theme? A gem when a Parisian fix is needed.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful eveningIt's a romantic getaway with my loved one and we got what we wanted. The food, start from appetizer, finish with dessert, every bit of the meal is fantastic. The service is wonderful as well. We were well attended, but not overwhelmed. Overall, it's just perfect.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! If you are visitingAmazing! If you are visiting Montreal, it is must.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA vacation to ParisThe cuisine, service and decor rival any of the best French Bistros in Paris.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food and serviceDined at L'express with my husband, son and his university friends. Staff very courteous and accommodating. Excellent service and great ambience. Food more than met expectations, which were high. Squid and lentil entree was superb! Would definitely return on my next visit to Montreal.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice neighborhood bistroModerate size, very ggod food and service, nice ambiance. Reasonable prices. Enjoyed, would come back.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMVery professionnal and wellVery professionnal and well done. Gem of meals and 42 years of the same menu.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent date night choice! We had a delightful dining experience at L'Express. Recommended by friends in the food industry-foodies if you will, we reserved a table for two online, arrived and was instantly led to our table. Our server was friendly and helpful, we were given a page menu in French as well the same menu translated into other languages. We enjoyed appetizers of green salad and a delicious mushroom soup For the main course a mushroom ravioli (amazing!) and baked salmon on a bed of spinach. Portions are adequate especially if you want to order appetizers. We were also given bread and the best part- a full jar of pickles while we wait for the food. T I highly recommend L'Express and we will surely be back next time we visit Montreal.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
