  • "Excellent drinks and wine service. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff, from cheeses to wines (Bandaged aged local cheddar, Viognier by the half bottle! Old Pulteney 21 year single malt!). And the seared fresh halibut was perfect."

  • "An excellant choice for fine dining in Madison. The experience lasts for hours, so plan for it, but you don't feel left hanging, the meal was served at a refined speed, and gave you a chance to enjoy it all."

  • "My husband surprised me with dinner reservations at L'etoile restaurant for our anniversary. We have always wanted to go to dinner there, but never made until now. It is very pricey, but worth the experience."

  • "Everything edible which was brought to the table was fabulous! The presentations were great, the food was hot, and most of all, delicious. The ambiance was nice, but sparse and a bit feeling like a commercial office space. It could use some interior treatment to create a softer atmosphere, I.e., a place to gather, a welcoming place. Service was polite, but too subdued, as in not too social or attentive. But again, fabulous food and well worth a visit."

  • "The food included creative, high quality ingredients. The atmosphere was pitch perfect, classy and elegant, thanks to: the impeccable service, the view of the Wisconsin State Capitol, and jazz music played at an appropriate volume. I highly recommend this restaurant and commend its staff, servers, sommelier, bartenders, chef and kitchen staff, and management."

  • "The food was just fantastic. Every bite was memorable and so delectable. Can't say enough good things about this place. Pricey but worth every penny. Its a meal that makes a memory and a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Service was top of the line, flavors were divine, everything was supreme. Hats off to the chefs. Amazing experience!"

  • "For exceptionally elegant dining, L'Etoile is _the_ restaurant in Madison. The extensive cocktail and wine list, excellent waitstaff, attention to detail, fabulous location, and absolutely delicious food made for a wonderful evening to remember."

  • "Went with my best friends in the world and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The meal was divine, everything made from scratch. A truly special and memorable night!"

  • "We love L'etoile and for us it never disappoints. I had two mid-course meals and an entree. The first courses weren't as appealing to me that night. Next time I might even have three mid-courses. I just don't need a big entree with all that food! I couldn't help but give it four stars for ambience as I will never stop missing the "old" L'etoile. "New" L'etoile is just a bit cold or austere. The wine flights do help though!"

  • "The meals pace was... very slow. Charcuterie plate - The fromage de tête was under seasoned, and the duck rillette was very loose. First course - Corned tongue was very good and the beef carpaccio was a touch oily, but good. Second Course - Rigatoni, okay but not exceptional. Gnocchi w/oxtail, very well done....until I got a mouth full of un-rendered fat and another bite with a small chunk of bone. Entree - The pork came with about 40% of the portion being fat/connective tissue/bone. The lamb w/nicoise pomme puree was the standout dish of the night, the only exception is the undercooked and underseasoned "spicy" carrots. Desserts - Lavender creme Brulee and Sorbet w/Coconut Creme. Neither were WOW, but both were very good."

  • "Title says it all. Consistently fantastic restaurant; easily the best in Madison. Also, by far the most expensive in Madison. New York quality, but New York prices."

  • "I had mentioned we were celebrating someone getting a new job, and at the top of our menu's they had written "Congradulations on the new job!" The service was amazing and the food was even better. Our server had a great personality, was very helpful in selecting food."

  • "We love L'Etoile. Thier attention to detail sets them apart. Everything but our entrees were outstanding. The Scallops and Bransino were OK - not up to thier ususal standards."

  • "Great experience, delicious food but just a bit pricey. Yes, I know it is supposed to be the nicest restaurant in Madison (and possibly the state) but in comparison to some other places I've eaten that push the food envelope and serve outstanding meals - this place is very expensive for what it offers."

  • "This award-winning, legendary haute cuisine restaurant does not disappoint. With beautifully presented, delicious food and superb service, and a stunning view of the Capitol building, L'Etoile is a great choice for special occasions. There are delightful, inventive dishes for foodies, but also some good options for more cautious eaters. In addition to the deep wine list and full bar, we love their selection of interesting, fun non-alcoholic cocktails. L'Etoile was a Midwest pioneer decades ago in emphasizing fresh seasonal supplied directly from regional farmers, cheesemakers, etc., and it continues that practice. Besides the items we ordered, we were brought a few extra little items as amuse-bouches."

  • "Went here for valentines , good good but very pricey."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "Big let down. Soup tasted canned, food to salty or just standard, but no wow factor or even anything extra tasty. Don't understand the hype. Way over-priced for the level of flavors. Skip it!"

  • "L'Etoile consistently demonstrates it's at the top of their game -- I've been delighted by every order I've made from their constantly evolving menu, and each time, the food somehow manages to top my expectations. The wine list is extensive, as are their list of custom cocktails and regional beers, something for everyone. This caliber of dining is something I only reserve for special occasions, and it has never disappointed. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful, and add warmth and comfort to the formal dining experience."

  • "An exceptional dinner in every way. Will not be forgotten. My husband took me here for my thirtieth birthday and everything was perfect. Beautiful view of the Capitol building lit up, best meal I've ever had, excellent, knowledgable service, and even a menu printed with my name and happy birthday message at the top. Best meal ever."

  • "It had been several years since we last dined at L'Etoile. With such an exceptional dining scene in Madison we tend to explore many places. But our dinner this past Saturday evening reminded us of why L'Etoile is the benchmark. Throughout the dining experience we had to comment on the different, unusual, and pleasant 'tastes' that were introduced to us. Oftentimes the creative ingredients and preparations yielded results that we've never experienced before. And they were all noteworthy. Our comments during the evening often included, "I wonder how they did that?". Our knowledgable waitress was happy to explain the preparations. Service throughout the evening was attentive and well paced."

  • "Since it was a birthday dinner for my girl i wanted everything to be perfect; and it was just as i had hoped! Including her name with a birthday wish at the top of the menue. Every member of the staff exudes a cool comfort and confidence as well as a significant knowledge of the menue and wine list. All leading to a fantastic and relaxing dining experience....."

  • "Among the best of the best. Excellent service without arrogance. Attentive. Excellent recommendations. Food and it's presentation are spectacular! Cocktails are superb, creative and not poured into a glass with ice (hate that!)."

  • "This spectacular dining experience made the drive on an icy night totally worthwhile. From our server Nancy and her staff * to the elegant wine list and spectacular food ... this was the very finest. The Amuse-bouche to the unusual variety of appetizers, fresh salads and entrees .. we had to share our choices a bit with those at our table. The uniqueness of the food was matched by the quality and tastes of the menu from an all-vegetable entrée to a delectable sole including among other things grits and thin pieces of pork rind. What a magnificent surprise and taste delight topped by crème brulee and an elegant chocolate cake for dessert and a small complimentary plate of treats from the kitchen. Unbelievable!! Can't wait to return!"
