Leslie's The Tavern at Rockinghamfoodie find, right off the highwayTucked off Route 91 in southern Vermont, right when you are resigning yourself to fast food options, is Leslie's. Like an oasis for the thirsty, Leslie's serves up a short-but-awesome menu of meat, seafood and veggie options. Nice cocktail and wine list as well. That said, it's not perfect...the chef can have off dishes. A recent visit included obviously-frozen green beans as the side veg and my partner's lamb a tad underdone. Also, we were left idling for 45 minutes between appetizer and entree. But the service is pleasant, my duck special was top 3 ever, and the short rib appetizer was to die for. German chocolate cake simply divine. Went back recently for the first time in a couple of years, now that I am permanently back in the area and not just visiting family and was just as happy as ever! The food is excellent - reliably so; the menu is interesting and varied; the wine list is decent (not spectacular but definitely drinkable!); the dining rooms are so pleasant; and once I said whose daughter I am, I got a huge hug from Leslie! There were (regrettably) few diners while we were there so we got to chat at length with both Leslie and John (great chef!) at the end of the evening.
