Diner Reviews
  • "Love the new menu and on Friday, all of our dishes came out perfectly prepared. It was a lovely evening all around. Service was excellent and it was nice to sit near the fire on a cold wet night. The only thing that could be improved is that the chairs are uncomfortable. They are so bare and cold, metal. Upholstered chairs would go a long way to improve the experience. They would also absorb noise as it can get very noisy at L'Escale when the restaurant is full. It was not full on Friday so the noise level was fine but if it had been, it would have been too noisy."

  • "We went as a group of 6. The restaurant was lovely although a bit loud so soft-spoken people are hard to hear. The burgers were much enjoyed as was the tuna tartar and beef carpaccio. The wine list was very attractive with well priced options. One friend walks with a cane and it was very easy for him as there is valet parking and the restaurant is all on one level. The desserts are terrific. I heard they recently reinvested in the kitchen and staff and it shows!"

  • "Very professional staff provided a seamless lunch experience. Food was delicious and arrived in a very timely manner. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a top shelf business lunch or dinner."

  • "Mi third time at this restaurant and I love it! With a great weather is so beautiful outside. And inside the atmosphera is very nice too. No many restaurants have this great location, the view is beautiful and you can walk outside."

  • "The service was extremely poor. Starting with the bar area we waited 30 minutes for a drink and when the drinks finally came the waitress spilt one of the drinks on the table there seemed to be a lot of staff wondering around doing nothing. It was early say around 6pm the dinning area was empty why on earth would a restaurant of such quality have such BAD SERVICE. Then we moved to the dinning area again around 7pm restaurant, the dining areal was maybe 1/4 full, we received our menus and waited again 30 minutes or so for service. I actually had to ask the waiter to take our order and for bread. Honestly for a 5 star restaurant this is totally wrong. I just can not believe how terrible the service was."

  • "L escale is not a good place to eat. The food rarely confess out hot and when it does its over salted and not tasty. The one bright spot are the desserts."

  • "We went on the recommendation of a friend from Hong Kong, where we live part of each year. Ambiance was elegant, but comfortable (with a real wood fireplace on a cold day) service was impeccable, and the food fabulous. They ran out of the lamb special, but brought out small taster portions of what they had left so we could sample it. Five of us ate oysters, duck, chicken, calamari along with several amuse-bouche (one was quail egg with caviar!) all superbly prepared. We drank a lovely Riesling first with starters, then an excellent Pinot, decanted, with the stronger main course. Desserts were beautiful and delicious. I only wished I hadn't been so full. The only negative was the disappointing bread."

  • "We were seated near the kitchen with views of the main dining room and it felt like we were in a busy hallway. Our server was indifferent, even cold."

  • "So nice to have an a la carte brunch menu (reasonably priced) instead of a buffet."

  • "Food was different. I never had Calmari prepared in a non-traditional way where the calmari was a full cut, rather than little circles. It gave the calmari a different and interesting texture. The scallops were fresh and tender and the risotto with a tasty sauce which provided almost sweet taste in a more fluid state. The breads were excellent. I recommend the raisin bread with white raisins. I could have eaten a whole loaf. The profideroles were large and definitely sharable. The troublsome part was the chocolate sauce (needed a better quality) and the pastry needed more flakiness. The dining room was not set up for our 5:45 PM reservations. We had a wait 20 minutes with no diners ahead of us. Maybe they wanted a big bar bill."

  • "A friend and I decided to meet halfway between New Haven and NYC and I suggested L'Escale as I had wanted to try it for some time. I was pleasantly surprised to experience a beautiful seating area which reminding me of the French countryside. The waitstaff was attentive and unbelievably helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was plated beautifully and was flavorful with every bite. I truly enjoyed the Kale salad. Going forward, L'Escale will definitely become part of my trips to Greenwich on a regular basis."

  • "Customer service was horrible and food wasn't good. however it had all the pretentiousness as if both of those things were top notch. it was not reminiscent of any of the food we ate in Paris or of any of the better French restaurants we've eaten in Westchester or New York City that are much more warm & humble. Step up your game L'escale... Please check yep for the full review."

  • "This is a special restaurant with a lovely setting on the water in Greenwich. While the settings and table decor is not fancy, This is a great spot for foodies who want a terrific menu and very good quality food?orations are great, and They work hard to make you happy. Their specialities include Caesar salad, chicken paillard with arugula! Excellent!"

  • "Solid French oferings, but very spotty California wines. Needs to add some serious Napas: BV Tapenstry, BV George LaTour; Hewitt Cab, Sterling Three Palms, Provenance Merlot...such wines will add luster to the wine list and give customers who appreciate fine wine somewhere to go when they tire of the French....all these beautifully complement the great cooking."

  • "Halfway from Manhatten and Upper Fairfield County, L'Escale is the perfect meeting place. It is close to 95 and yet quiet and unrushed so you and your guests can sit, dine and chat unrushed. The atmosphere, inside and out, is charming. The food is delicious. It is a real favorite."

  • "I've had breakfast and dinner here but never brunch. Well, as usual L'escale did not disappoint. The were very accommodating. The Eggs Benedict and egg white omelets were cooked to perfection. The raspberry tart was out of this world. The staff could not have been nicer. it's expensive but totally with it."

  • "I had high expectations for this place. From the moment we arrived I wondered if we were inconveniencing them by being there? No one greeted us for the longest time. The food was great. The service was ridiculous! Slow, boring, not helpful and just plain put out that we dared to dine there. For four fun ladies who were clearly out to have a great time it took over 30 minutes to get our magnum of champagne. No explanation and we had to refill our glasses, too! It was all laughable. It was so absurd. Its like the regular staff didn't show up and they pulled the potato peeler from the back kitchen. Actually I shouldn't say that. The potato peeler would have been an uptick. Won't go back unless they get a new floor manager."

  • "We were looking for a spot to celebrate a good friend's birthday, and we thought we'd try L'Escale, based on positive reviews. The choice turned out to be perfect. Everything about our experience was just right. Great menu and excellent food. Flavorful modern takes on classic French dishes. Outstanding fresh shucked oysters. Exceptional desserts. Pleasant and professional service that was neither too formal or too friendly. The space is large, light and open, with an attractive and creative decor perhaps best described as whimsical rustic elegance. There is also a large terrace for outdoor dining with a water view in the warm weather months. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny (especially for lunch). We will definitely return."

  • "Really marvelous all around. Physically beautiful. Excellent, professional service. Tempting menu. And absolutely delicious food. Had been twice for lunch, which was very nice. But dinner was somehow better. We "had to" go a couple of weeks ago, and I so enjoyed it that I thought it would be a special treat for a birthday dinner. Our "birthday girl" had recently gone thru a tough time, and we wanted to do something out of the ordinary to celebrate. Soon after we sat down, one of our party said "I haven't had so many men swarming around me since I was 15." But in the best possible way. Because everything is stone, the noise can be unpleasant. Prices are high. But fully worth it. Trying to think of an occasion to return. Will make one up."

  • "We celebrated a late Christmas party with a party of 6 at L'Escale. The candllit atmosphere was beautiful and uncrowded, and the service excellent. We spent a very long and leisurely dinner without feeling rushed, all of the food was first rate and there were plenty of large round tables so that a large party could comfortably socialize. While it was pricey, we all felt it was well worth it."

  • "My wife and I wanted to spend the day simply enjoying the season and relaxing. All family visits were over so it was just the two of us and since we always enjoy dining at L'Escale it was an obvious choice for us. everything lived up once again to our expectations and with the addition of the piano having been moved in from the bar for the day, an even bigger treat."

  • "We had a delightful Christmas Eve dinner. The limited menu for the holiday was just fine. It included multiple choices that each person found attractive. The food was well prepared and the service was excellent and seamless. This is one of our favorite spots in Greenwich."

  • "L'Escale is a beautiful place - elegant light-colored dining room with warm fireplace and windows overlooking the harbor. Staff is polite, attentive, and the food is wonderful. Good choices on the menu as well as some items offered at half size/half price - very appealing for smaller appetites, or the opportunity to try different dishes. Complimentary small appetizers & dessert extras make the meal experience that much more special. The bar area is also a beautiful and inviting spot for either before or after dinner, or just a quiet evening with cocktails and nibbles."

  • "Luxury hotel and restaurant is always nice to visit. The service is formal, yet pleasant. During a snowstorm, it would have been nice if the valet had brushed the snow off the windshield, before pulling it up for me. These are the nice touches a star spot like the Delamar should train staff to do,without having to ask. Food was good, not a knockout. It was warm, not hot. Seafood is always very fresh here. Dessert was delicious. Worth a try."

  • "We live just up the street; to have a high quality dining experience within walking distance makes this about as good as it can get! On our last visit we were celebrating our anniversary. As usual the staff was very attentive but unobstrusive. Our meals were cooked to perfection. We look forward to many visits."

  • "Came with high expectations, left very disappointed. Zero ambiance, despite being highly touted for being on the water front. Opened with the Escale salad, a simple dish but expected much more than iceberg lettuce. My date had the kale salad, with only a couple of pieces of kale and nuts that were basically right out of a can in the supermarket. The main courses were servicable at best. Desserts awful. In particular I had the apple crisp. Needed a knife to cut it. This restaurant is supposedly one of the best in the area. However, and with regret, for me it is one and done."

  • "We often walked past L'Escale along the waterfront and had meant to dine there well before now but, so many places further away we kept putting it off (much like those who live in NYC and never visited the Empire State Building I guess?). We are so glad that we finally got around to going there! Louis our waiter and the other members of the staff were all very attentive and when it came to matching wines with our meal, I asked for a suggestions (rarely if ever do that) and was delighted with the choices ( a Pinot Noir, Forefront by Pine Ridge which matched perfectly with my Duck entree'). We have promised ourselves return visits and also plan to walk down for a drink at the bar. Can't wait until next summer when we can dine outside!"

  • "Although our family usually goes to this restaurant for a casual dinner, the ambience and cuisine make it well suited for a special occasion as well. The bar is lively and comfortable, while the dining space is a bit more subdued. On a Saturday night, the room has a nice buzz without being overly noisy. The waiters are attentive without being obtrusive. This time I had the special pumpkin ravioli as a starter, which was delicious. I shared it with my 12 year old who also loved it. For a main course, I chose salmon which was well prepared. Another in our group had the beet and goat cheese croquette salad and said it was terrific too. In general, L'Escale always delivers a good dining experience and is one of the better choices in Greenwich."
