Diner Reviews
  • "Les Nomades was excellent. The waiter seemed a bit too 'high brow' and intrusive. He seemded to be eavesdropping. Would we come again? YES."

  • "We made an early dinner reservation for a Saturday night to celebrate our wedding, and notified the restaurant of our recent nuptials in advance. We loved the decor and the ambiance. The dining room is elegant and inviting, yet still offered privacy to each table. Our server was friendly without being intrusive; he knew the menu well and offered suggestions. The sommelier was knowledgable and cordial. We chose the four course prix fixe. Each course was unique and well prepared, adequately portioned and wonderfully plated. The highlight of our evening was the dessert course. We both enjoyed our ordered dish, but the kitchen prepared a special torte for us with "congratulations" inscribed in chocolate. We left satiated and happy, not stuffed."

  • "One of the best restaurants I've been, the food was creative, very delicious, and surprisingly interesting. We went for the fix menu and we had an amazing experience. Definitely will go again."

  • "Les Nomades' reputation is certainly deserved. I took my husband there for his 50th birthday and we had a fantastic experience. From our first glass of champagne to the last bite of soufflé (mine Grand Marnier, his hazelnut), we were treated to a culinary delight! Appetizers included escargots (reliably garlicky, slippery) and fois gras (sautéed perfectly). Dover sole was buttery with a hint of saffron. I also had surprisingly responsive asparagus, considering it's March. My husband raved about his venison throughout the meal. Chef Roland's signature soufflés were easily transformed to accommodate our gluten intolerance. Our waiter exhibited an unfortunate bit of snootiness, but relaxed as the meal progressed. He was otherwise top notch."

  • "Chef did a very nice job but restaurant is tired and stuffy. Service could be better."

  • "Les Nomades sets the bar in Chicago for classic, refined French dining. No detail is overlooked: Service is exceptional and personalized. The food is truly sublime. Roland Liccioni is a master craftsman and magician with flavors. "Must haves" are the warm lobster and mango salad and (at least) one of their signature soufflés. Notable entrees include Dover sole and short ribs. Really, there's not a mediocre dish to be had here. Very fairly priced four or five course prix fixe, or select what you will a la carte. My "go to" for special occasions or just to share a special meal with friends. I look forward to my next visit."

  • "Great place. Love it. The ambience is great and it is always the 1st reservation I make."

  • "We always enjoy going to Les Nomades. We went really early (5:30) and had the place to ourselves for about 20-30 minutes. It was great. The food and service were awesome. The lobster and shrimp salad was a big hit. we look forward to our next visit."

  • "Five stars for food and the ambience of both the first and second floor. Second floor is preferable--cozy wood fireplace and comfortable distance between tables. The food was fantastic, the hostess was one of the most pleasant in the industry, but the waiter was abrupt and unfriendly. He had an edge that detracted from the entire experience."

  • "This is our second time within the past few months. Hands down the best overall experience in Chicago for fine dining. The 5 course menu option really is really well priced and just the right portions for a filling meal. Very well prepared and plated. The atmosphere is very warm and a bit rustic and French...very elegant and in no way outdated at all! The service is top notch, professional and engaging. They really take their cue from how you want to tailor your evening."

  • "Loved the restaurant. Ambiance and food outstanding. Service great but server needed to demonstrate more personality. An excellent restaurant. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend."

  • "This was our first time at Les Nomades and I would definitely go back. The food and service were outstanding! Yes, there are other French restaurants in Chicago, but this one you must try, if for no other reason than the souffle. There aren't many restaurants anymore that make traditional french souffles, and the ones at Les Nomades are amazing! We also had the market selection fish of the day, which was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful sauce, flavor, texture -- yum! The wine selection is also quite nice here. Les Nomades is truly one of the great restaurants in the city."

  • "We went here for our 5 year anniversary and it was absolutely amazing. The food was out of this world and staff was spectacular. We are definitely coming back."

  • "Not impressed for the price. The room was small and could have been very romantic, yet lacked dim lights, candles, and music. The staff was friendly and relatively attentive. The food was excellent, but be prepared to spend a lot and still be very hungry."

  • "This is a delightful upscale restaurant for an evening of exceptional dining in a quiet, romantic atmosphere. The dishes are beautifully presented and the food earns the definition of five star cuisine. Much choice and much deliciousness. Wine choice is extensive and varied and suggestions offered by wait service was right on pairing. Additionally, service was attentive, responding to the slightest indication of need. This should be experience by anyone looking to celebrate in a special place."

  • "Les Nomades is one of the best French restaurants in the city. This is a romantic smaller restaurant which is better for couples than for a large group. There is a formality to the service that is much like being in France.. Having dined at Les Nomades often over the years, we are enthralled by the sauteed foie gras with apples, the warm lobster and shrimp salad, and the perfectly prepared Dover sole. The menu is somewhat limited, but it is hard to wrong with any choice as everything is truly wonderful. Favored desserts include the soufflés, and flourless chocolate torte with raspberries. A wonderful wine list, fresh flowers and beautiful art, what more could one ask?"

  • "I can't believe I lived in Chicago so long before trying Les Nomades and now I regret not going sooner. The dinner was close to sheer perfection. Service is top notch. Environment is charming, warm and romantic. Food is on par with the best of Chicago's top restaurants -- not as avant-garde as some, but flavors are deep, nuanced and balanced and everything is executed with precision and an eye for detail. It was a meal I'll dream about for a while. A wonderful experience and great for a special occasion, I can't wait to go back."

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in Chicago. We only visit once a year and it's the first thing we book each time. It's a complete experience and has managed to retain quality in all aspects over the years. Very rare!"

  • "As always, all was wonderful~the food utterly delicious, the wine and champagne superb, the art and floral arrangements delightful, the service alert. We enjoyed two versions of foie gras both buttery, each with its own srumptious fruity accompaniment. The 72 hour braised short ribs were rich and tender and not to be missed. Duck leg confit was tasty as was the medium duck breast. All vegetables were luscious. Our hazelnut souffle was gorgeous and made extraordinary by the requested addition of hot chocolate sauce along with hazelnut sauce. A plum financier was strange, completely unlike any financier ever before encountered, but its accompanying pear sorbet was a sweet delight. Service is impeccable but could be friendlier."

  • "Les Nomades is our favorite French restaurant in Chicago. Mary Beth, Chef Roland Liccione, and their staff welcome you as guests to their home. The dining room is warm and intimate, and the classic French cuisine never disappoints. The lobster salad, Dover sole, and Grand Marnier Soufflé are my favorites, but the duck and wild game dishes are also classic and delicious. This is a Chicagoland hidden gem."

  • "We always enjoy dinner at Les Nomades - its like a quick escape to Paris. Great food, excellent service. Therefore, our standards and expectations are a bit higher for this restaurant. The food was wonderful as always, but none of the courses blew us away. The wine choices are superb and we found a really nice bottle that complemented all the courses. The cheese selection was fabulous for a restaurant located in the US. We will return soon."

  • "Loved the dover sole and the John Dory. The waiter was very helpful and great to talk to. Hope to return soon. The menu before 5:30 is terrific and quite a deal."

  • "Ended up having the Dover sole which I don't have often if ever. Not a huge fan if the texture and overall taste but it was prepared very well and I decided to go along with our server's recommendation. I may ask for the vegetarian option next time since I don't eat meat at all and only a little fish. Great attention by the staff. Always very charming-- pricey yes, but that should be be expected."

  • "i can't say enough good things about this place. great food. great service. wine list is wonderful. low key fancy."

  • "We would have liked the 4 course option that was listed on the website. When we mentioned it to the server he said no pretty offhanded and then at the end offered a token, I'll ask the chef, he came back to take the order, never mentioned asking so it felt like he didn't even bother. His whole demeanor made it feel like he didn't want to be working on Christmas eve. Pretty generic service. Foie & salmon 1st courses very good, Entree's looked to be the size that would be appropriate for 4 courses, but we didn't get 4 courses. Desserts took 30 minutes after entrees cleared, thought they would never arrive and then they were average at best both chocolate desserts bland, and one overcooked. Very disappointing."

  • "My family and I went all at here for Christmas Eve dinner, and it was (nearly!) worth it! The food is just outstanding, and the restaurant itself is very unique inside. The escargot was the best I've ever had and the duo of pork and lamb was perfection. The only slight downside is that the service is needlessly stuffy, but that's probably to be expected in a restaurant that won't let you in without a jacket."

  • "My bride and I decided to spend our 1st anniversary with a weekend splurging in Chicago. We wanted a mini-honeymoon one year after our real honeymoon, so I researched all the top places and found Les Nomades on every "Top 10" list - both online and from friends. Go with the mindset of investing in a culinary experience, and you'll get your ROI! Les Nomades was a dining experience I will never forget! The ambiance was perfect, the amount of attentive service from our waiter and the assistants was superp, and the food quality was beyond description. We decided to "Mix and Match" our selections from the four-course menu and allowed the waiter to select the wine pairings with each course. I can only summarize it with one word...AMAZING. ""

  • "This past Saturday's dining experience solidified our belief that this is one of the top places for an elegant and flawlessly executed dining experience. The service is absolutely wonderful and far from stuffy...they are professional and very engaging in conversation. Food wise, the venison was fantastically prepared, as was the duck consommé and the arctic char. My other half raved about the roasted duck breast which we have had before and it is consistently wonderful. The atmosphere is really warm, rustic and elegant with the fireplace on the second floor. The proprietor, Mary Beth Liccioni is very welcoming and she should be commended for all her efforts. This place is a true gem and should be on everyone's list of restaurants to visit!"
