Diner Reviews
  • "Terrible service!!! Food was ok but definitely not great."

  • "Been to Le Halles many times....food is always spot on and the same with the service..as far as NY dining goes, the prices for the value is hard to beat....quality hunks of meat at reasonable prices....decent amount of options on the wine list for under $60 per bottle which is hard to find in the city"

  • "We visited during Restaurant Week and two of our party ordered off of the RW menu. We were impressed with the size & quality of the servings. We ate outside in the curbside area, and it was a relaxing and quieter option compared with the relatively loud environment inside the restaurant. The service outside was attentive and friendly."

  • "We went to Les Halles to celebrate my son's birthday - his choice. Although we arrived on time for our reservation, we were sent to the bar to wait 15 mins. The restaurant is unpleasantly noisy and very chaotic (bus boys running around, crepes prepared on the floor sometimes at the inconvenience of neighboring diners). Service was very slow based on NYC standards - 20 mins after seating before we were approached by a waiter; another 20 minutes before the waiter returned to take our order. Spent 3 1/2 hours there; much of it was spent waiting. Very large dining room yet only 2-bathroom stalls in ladies room - always a line. My son was quite disappointed and stated he would not return. (Thank goodness!)"

  • "The food was excellent, well prepared, very tasty. The service should be one star. We ordered Les Halles coffee and were brought Les Halles crepes?! We asked then about the coffee and were told they have no Kahlua Coffee. We had salmon and pepper steak and were charged scallops and steak bearnaise, a 20$ "mistake""

  • "With its Anthony Bourdain pedigree, we expected more. Notably, the service was a disappointment - unfriendly, slow and a few ordering mishaps. Food was fine, but we expected to be wowed."

  • "We had a fine dining experience, but whereas we had come for a special occasion in the past, it's no longer that special. It was fine for a meal out and reasonably priced, but overall it was just "good." Nothing special. It's lost its special occasion feel."

  • "Our party -US and Australians-really enjoyed the food. We had arrived back from the FrenchRiviera the day before and were able to make comparisons. The hanger steak was well prepared, the coq au vin tasty and excellent, and the others found their steaks well presented and prepared. Excellent fries. However the service did not match the quality of the food, and was erratic and a bit disinterested. We had to ask for bread, small things like that. Also the noise level was extremely high but it was a Friday night. The wine list was excellent and moderately priced. All in all a good bistro experience."

  • "Four of us enjoyed dinner at Les Halles during restaurant week. Three of us ordered the restaurant week menu and every dish was good, but the braised beef entree was the winner. One person ordered steak tartar, which was prepared tableside and then the chocolate tart (instead of the restaurant week menu) and both of these were outstanding. The staff was excellent and the food was coming out of the kitchen rapidly and very well timed. It was a little noisy in the restaurant, but overall, an excellent dining experience."

  • "Les Halles Brasserie did not disappoint. I've eaten there several times and the food is always excellent. The ambience and the staff make you feel like your eating in France. it's always a favorite!"

  • "The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was good, however the place was too packed and overcrowded for me. It was so noisy I could hardly make conversation. I understand that it is a popular spot but they tried to cram too many people in, the tables were too close together. There was also a bar there that had a lot of occupants, which added to the noise. I would go earlier in the evening but I would definately reccomend the food."

  • "Went here with my wife and daughter for lunch as part of NY Restaurant Week, and because I wanted to eat at one of Anthony Bourdain's restaurants!! We had a lovely lunch - the char and the short-rib were both excellent - and with a reasonably priced sauvignon blanc to accompany we left very happy to continue exploring the city! (My daughter meanwhile was very keen to scrape off every last scrap of her nutella crème brulee which she loved!!!) We would thoroughly recommend Les Halles to our friends and will return when next in New York. Oh - great value restaurant week menu too."

  • "It's a nice restaurant. The service excellent. Selecting the restaurant week menu was a major disappointment. Two of us had the short ribs and it tasted okay but was somewhat dry and you hardly noticed it on the plate. Three stringbeans was apalling. The flank steak was a better choice which the other two people had; It was a very good meal and the serving size was not a dot on the plate. I have been to their other restaurant and enjoyed it very much. Another member of our table has eaten there several time in the past and always enjoyed it. The appetizers were also so small - the soup was only halfway in the bowl. Again, this restaurant proved to be a major disappointment."

  • "Les Halles has traditionally been one of my go to places in NY. My wife and I love the energy and usually the food. In this case though, not so much. We always order the duck confit. This time the duck was way over cooked and lacking flavor. It's as if they were sitting under a heat lamp, or resting in an oven till they were tough and dried out. Our server was very inattentive and stunk of bad B.O. hard to be near him. He also forgot to bring our order of french fries until we had to ask for them. I believe he forgot to put the order in as it was quite awhile before they showed up. When they did, he blamed the back of the house. I hate excuses."

  • "Arrived early for our reservation, treated like we were an hour late, didn't get served for thirty minutes after seated. All levels of service were unacceptable."

  • "We had planned on dining here as the result of a recommendation. Discovering it was restaurant week was a bonus. We ordered the sea bass and the steak and were amazed with both. Just recognize this is a high energy location"

  • "We had supper last Monday and after reading some reviews I was a bit apprehensive about going there, we were at the Park av. location and everything turned out just right, staff was helpful knowledgeable on everything on the menu even the fact that we change time and number of guest didn't cause any problem. So except the fact that noise level was a bit extreme everything turned up right, I'll be back on my next trip to NY."

  • "The service was very good, just a little wait for dessert and the wait staff was quick to explain. The food was simple and delicious. The place was a bit dark, and I like enough light to snap a picture.Good place for dining alone."

  • "A great name attached to a restaurant doesn't do enough. It was noisy, busy, unprofessional and disappointing. The food was okay but not elegant, was too much and heavy. Good luck."

  • "I have been wanting to try Les Halles for a while. However my frequent trips to NY on business are usually packed. But this time I had the time and was glad I went to Les Halles. Reasonable prices, great selection and really good food. They fries are the bomb. Smart efficient service and a reasonable wine by the glass menu made this a great place to dine in NYC."

  • "As always an enjoyable Dinner -- Took my son and grandson who had never been there before. The steaks were excellent and cooked to order. The fries as always some of the best around."

  • "Went with family. Father loved the wine list. All food was very good. Our waiter was notably kind, and served us well. Had a uninspiring interaction with the bartender before sitting down. He didn't seem to care at all that we were there. Took forever to get our bill once our table was ready despite asking for it and him acknowledging the request 3 times... it wasn't that busy either. The service was otherwise very good. Food was excellent. Sort of loud but energetic atmosphere."

  • "Les Halles specializes in large steaks carved up for several people, with generous servings of French fries. It also has hearty versions of traditional dishes. Wine list includes relatively reasonable choices. The restaurant feels French, but is a little dark and run down, and the waitstaff seemed tired on a Saturday evening."

  • "Pricy cocktails made without great enthusiasm. Steaks were simply supreme."

  • "The terrine was meh. So cold it had the consistency of something that had either been frozen or in the fridge not too long ago. It was gamey without tasting exciting or special. The French onion soup was "pretty good," but nothing you can't make with canned French onion soup. Steak au poivre was meh. Tough meat and so-so pepper curst. Have had much better in other Manhattan and Brooklyn restos for less money. $35 filet was excellent. Tender. Bearnaise sauce was delicious. Server was okay. He seemed rushed. The touted "award-winning" fries were good. But in this day and age, no longer special. These days, I just think there are so many better options to eat, where the food, even if brasserie style, is prepped with more care."

  • "The food was not bad and our server's upbeat personality made up for the hostess's sour attitude when we simply asked to move three tables over in a completely empty restaurant. The roasted Amish chicken was very fresh and their Kailua coffee was amazing and came with flaming Grand Marnier to pour on the whipped cream."

  • "Food deliciously French, service informed and friendly. Manager noticed our French fries were a bit late to the table and took them off the bill unprompted. Chef serves the French steak/frites combination in classic and new ways. We chose the marinated skirt steak and kale salad -cooked and sauced perfectly. We were early diners on Sunday July 5th after holiday weekend, and it was unusually quiet. Normally this restaurant is hopping with a great brasserie vibe."

  • "This was a fantastic restaurant! We ate breakfast there.. The food was very good and the ambiance was very nice. We could see the restaurant from our hotel and it looked as if the nite life in the bar was just as nice. Not a sloppy place, felt like a mature crowd with yummy food. I would give it a solid 4 out of 5... You can't go wrong."

  • " As a server of 10 years, I was absolutely appalled by the quality of service. The restaurant was nearly empty and bursting with support staff yet my server was rarely available."

  • "For her 21st birthday present my daughter wanted to go to NYC and see a Broadway show. Rather than fight the crowds in the theater district we looked for a nice restaurant near our hotel. Since my daughter is a "foodie" she wanted to try Les Halles as she has seen Boudain's TV show. Reservations were easy for a Saturday night and we were promptly seated. The meals were are delicious and portions were appropriately sized. Desert was "to die for". Service was attentive, but not pushy and the staff were all pleasant and welcoming. Would definitely go back here for a relaxing and enjoyable meal."

  • "We looked forward to dining here and were disappointed. The service was inconsistent and there was an additional charge that was not mentioned. It was removed when we requested it, however we had to wait for our check initially and then there was a wait for manager approval. The food quality was very good."

  • "Good food and excellent fries, which justify the award. Tables a bit close together but did not spoil the overall experience."
