Even though we got there very late, we were not rushed and treated the same as any other customer. The food was very good and the wine was amazing. We only had a short trip to NYC, and with so many options in the city we know we made the right decision for dinner.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat appetizersFor starters, definitely try the foie grais with apple and walnuts. This isn't your typical pâté you get in a can. This is a slice of fatty duck liver which will melt in your mouth (hopefully not on your shirt). Sweetness of the cooked apple will intensify your palate once you indulge on the foie gras. Take your time as this will fill you up quite quickly.
We also tried the pâté with beef tongue; this was your pâté which is stacked with beef tongue (sliced of course). It is also very filling but it pairs real well with the prunes which were preserved with red wine reduction of some sort.

I walked pass this restaurant for several weeks, curious, but not enough to stop in. I learned from a colleague that this was the flagship restaurant for Anthony Bourdain, the man who, through "No Reservations", had opened my eyes to the art of Gastronomy. Well, I had to eat here. Lucky me. The staff we found professional , helpful and courteous. We ordered dry Martinis, a good start. The food was excellent. Frisee aux lardons, Merguez with Truffle fries, and my new love, Braised Rabbit. The wine list in my opinion is great. It's not so large as to be intimidating, but it provides a varied selection of good French wines (the Crozes-Hermitage was excellent).

I had the scallops, which were amazing. My parents had the salmon and the "choucroute garnie," also both very tasty. We also split a side of spinach. Only two complaints: (1) the noise level got so high the waiter couldn't hear us, and (2) it was so dark inside we had trouble reading the menus (we had to use our cellphones as flashlights). The restaurant was most gracious and they quickly found us a suitable table anyways. The menu is French bistro , in French with English translation underneath. I had the cassoulet which is rich with meat morsels and on a base of white beans. It was delicious. The creme brule was superb and tasted like we were in Paris. My sisters had the Amish chicken dish and the cheese cake for dessert. With a bottle of great wine , we couldn't have asked for more. It was every bit as impressed as I was with the overall experience; and the steak was perfectly seasoned, cooked and just the right amount. Of the 5 of us, 4 different steaks were ordered and each was enjoyed.
Just wish I lived in town to come here more frequently.

Finally decided to go here to celebrate a special occasion with my wife - its only a block away from us and have been meaning to go for a while. The steaks were uprising amazing!!! Their award winning french fries are legitimately the best french fries I've ever had. The prices are no where near to a traditional steak house - so that was an added bonus. Met a couple of English ladies that were staying across the street at the Gansevoort. They stumbled upon it there their first night, and loved it so much, went there every night of their stay for 5 straight nights! And they had no idea who Anthony Bourdain is - so they simple liked the food. We hopped on Open Table to see if there was room at Les Halles (which we had all been to before and loved!) and sure enough, we were able to make a reservation for 9:15 PM. We arrived, waited for only an additional 10 minutes and sauntered up to the bar in the meantime. The food was excellent, the wine was great (and new to us) and the service was very friendly. The staff was friendly and helpful. I wish I could have ordered everything on the menu, it all looked AMAZING. For apps we ordered the cracked pepper Brie which was so delicious. I also ordered the French onion soup which is the best that I've ever tasted. My fiancé ordered the bone marrow and couldn't have been happier. For our entrees of course we ordered steak. Our steaks were the most tender, perfectly cooked pieces of beef that I've ever had. We had no room for dessert, but the table side crepes looked fantastic. the rear and the food and service were great.......and the price was very good. We particularly enjoyed having a drink at

I likely would no matter where it was located; it is one of my favorite spots in the city. The food is always wonderful and the service is pretty good too. My only complaint is that it is generally crowded and it is very noisy. However, I think the fact that it is always packed speaks volumes about the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. My current favorite dish is the ginger hanger steak salad. I highly recommend it.

We had reservations and did not have to wait to be seated. From the moment of arrival, we were taken to our table and the service was attentive, pleasant and very professional in a earthy manner.
The appetizers, main meal and dessert were wonderful. I definitely will go back to this restaurant - it gave a feeling of a place where you could be a regular customer and people would know who you were. Cooked perfectly and the cilantro on top was a great touch. For dessert, I ordered the special cranberry tart and my friend ordered the creme brulee. Both were delicious!
The best part about this evening, apart from the fantastic food and setting, were the staff. The few places in the city that offer it serve the thin, dry kind they eat in Germany - not a fan. This is the fatter kind served with mash potato and five apple slices. I'd prefer it with a whole bunch of apples instead, but it was fine.
In addition, the truffle fries are fabulous! I know that the idea is probably, "We want to charge $11 for a potato. How do we do that?" Well, mission accomplished, because those fries are marvelous. PS: Don't dip them in the ketchup!
