Brasserie Les Halles is the home base of Chef-at-large Anthony Bourdain, author of the best selling Kitchen Confidential (Bloomsbury, May 2000) host of the TV Show, No Reservations. Bourdain is also the co-author of the Brasserie Les Halles Cookbook (Bloomsbury, 2004) with proprietor Philippe Lajaunie.

  • "This is a restaurant that you can enjoy eating in. The food is good, try the mussels and the service is good as well. They are quick to take your plate though so if you're not in a rush, pay attention or they'll take the plate out of your hands! We go back when we can, It's not too expensive for what it is either."

  • "Definitely not a place to go at night. The atmosphere was like a sad scene out of a bad movie set in an NYC restaurant where mobsters might appear at any moment. There were no customers and way too many staff standing and staring - just creepy. The mussels were good, but mussels are good most anywhere. I won't return to this location."

  • "We were a group of 7 and the server was very accomodating that one in our party was running a bit late. The brunch package was great and included a mimosa or other drink of your choice. Though the bellini was extra so that was a bit dissapointing but all in all was still good. Food was fresh and great thought nothign special. Got the eggs benedict which the eggs were nice and runny but not too raw so that was good. I have had poaached eggs there were not runny at all and that is always quite sad but these egges were cooked very well. all in all it was a good sunday experience and would recommend. Conveint location for anyone who lives downtown."

  • "I met a friend for lunch at this stand-by French bistro. We each had the French onion soup which, as usual, was delicious with the right balance of sherry, onions, and cheese, and none of the excessive saltiness you find at many restaurants. I followed with the marvelously garlicky escargot. For dessert, we shared a chocolate mousse that, while flavorful, had an oddly grainy texture. The service was also lovely. Though we sat and chatted for over two hours, we felt absolutely no pressure to vacate that table, even during the height of the lunch rush. The wait and bus staff were attentive, but gave us ample room to savor our food and enjoy each other's company. I love this restaurant and will be back again."

  • "I visited Les Halles as I am a big fan of Anthony Bourdain. The restaurant has a great French-bistro ambiance with a beautiful bar. It felt like I was back in Paris. The food was excellent, including the great sides. The macaroons were magnificent! Unfotunately, the service was terrible. We waited for a very long time for our waitress and after taking our order, she compeltely disappeared. When we inquired with a passing waiter as we had run out of water, another waiter came back 10 min later and explained he was taking over the table that the previous waitress was too busy. Thats ridiculous. The bad service did not ruin my experience, but it did put a big damper on it. The great good and ambiance really deserve better service."

  • "Most dining in the Financial District can be split into one of two categories: sandwich/fast food shops with minimal (if any) capacity for seating, or expensive steak houses. Les Halles makes a wonderful impression, and has a varied menu, which means you don't have to plunk down $35 for the main course. Two of us ate there for $50, including one appetizer, one dessert and two main courses. The quality of the food was very high. Will definitely go back."

  • "The food is consistently good bistro food. Steaks, mussels, and sides are nicely traditional. Sometimes an additional special. Strangely, cassoulet is weak. Downtown may have edge here. Winelist is uninspired and ridulously overpriced, with no appropriately priced bottle or glasses -- not one. All of the wines should be "$25" bottles at best but cost much more. Service is ok, they usually work fast. So, this is a bistro where wine quality does not equal the food. It has been like that for years, so it must work for them, but I don't get that."

  • "A strange waitress accompanied by terrible service and an equally dysfunctional kitchen. A very weird ambiance. Also, when asked if we could substitute fries for home fries, the answer was simply no. Not even yes but at an extra cost. Very very odd. Food was decent at best. Avoid this restaurant whenever possible."

  • "What a great little spot hidden away in the Financial District. Great French bistro. Our party shared the ravioli and the brie to start. Both were great. We then had the boudin noir, duck confit, coq au vin and mussels portugues. Everything was on point. There was literally nothing left on our plates. The place is nice, clean and relatively quiet given the amount of people dining there. We would come back."

  • "I love the food here. Friday we started with a menu special, salmon cakes with guacamole mousse. The Mousse was quite firm and more guacamole than mousse, but very tasty. We then had the fish special, which was skate with mashed potatoes and spinach. It was very tasty if a touch pricy. Finally, we ended with a chocolate banana tart with flowing center and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. I realized the food was quite wonderful though underwhelming given our server’s monologue of descriptors. I have never had a bad meal here, though sometimes they overplay the specials."

The food was so good that my wife went back the next morning for breakfast while I was at work. Terrific menu. Very close seating. If you aren't careful with your fork you may end up picking up food from a neighboring table!"

  • "From the appetizer to the dessert the food was great. They had a mushroom goat cheese special for the appetizer and it was out of t this world. Everything was cooked at the perfect temperature. My meal had just the right seasoning i had the pork cop with mash potato and actual garlic cooked. Not garlic seasoning, at first i thought it would have a weird garlicky taste but that wasn't the case. My dessert was immaculate this place made me fall in live with chocolate. I definitely recommend it. The ambiance is mellow great for couples."

Not great, not bad, just OK. 3 of the 6 of us order the salad nicoise which was large and lovely to look at but overwhelmed by the anchovies and the chewy tuna. The onion soup was..........OK and the salmon, although tasty, had bones. Dessert was yummy.........maccaroons and French press coffee......more than OK"

  • "Listen I am a frenchie and hard to please but this place is amazing! The escargot and the mac and cheese for appetizers, Steak Frites (they under cook so if you like medium, say medium well) and Cassoulet (but I have had many items) are great! The creme brule is so good, I can easily eat two! the best part is that it is great value. Great find in this city!"

  • "Came here for restaurant week but didn't order off the menu. When I got there I wasn't in the mood for what they had. I did share a couple appetizers of the onion soup which was good and the brie which was good but a little heavy on the pepper, which was fine for me but not if you aren't a huge fan of pepper. My steak salad was good. Nothing over the top or amazing here. The server seemed a little stressed even though is section was small he had a large party and it took him a little while to get our order in, but understandable with the other huge table. This was my second time at Les Halles but the first time at this location. I've been to the one on Park before. The vibe up on Park is a little more lively."

  • "every dish - apps to entrees - was awful. classic french bistro menu but zero execution. too bad - i really wanted this place to be a go to local spot for us. what happened? les halles midtown was very good when i went a few years ago but the fulton street location failed in every way when we went this past weekend. service was ok but it would have been adequate had every single dish not failed to even be edible. how can a french bistro screw up escargot and filet w/ bernaise? we left more than half of 2 apps and 2 main courses on the table. on the upside, they do have great french-style butter."

The french fries they claim to be famous for are fine, though not especially different or better than what you find most other places. A good choice if you're in the neighborhood."

  • "We went to Les Halles during a snowstorm and expected to be the only crazy people there. We were wrong. This neighborhood gem was hopping, as were their staff. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable (& appropriately enthusiastic about the food). Thec pan seared striped bass was fantastic! The skin was thick with flavorful, crispy deliciousness & the fish itself was cooked to perfection. The accompanying vegetables truly complimented the dish, as did the drizzle of cream sauce that was used with great restraint."

  • "Really sad to say that this neighborhood gem has turned a bit sour apple due to the staff infighting. Valentines day of all days to fight, swear, bang plates, etc... In front if customers. Sorry, but the food is mid range and the front of the house is Ritkers Island. Bottom of my list. Please get your act together. There is real potential for the food based on the incredible vegetable terrine served this evening."

  • "We never saw our server after our order was put in. One of our appetizers never came out. After some of the food that we ordered was delivered, no one ever came around to check on us. When someone finally came to clear our plates, we let him know about the missed appetizer. He informed the manager who simply informed us that our server had gone home. We weren't given much of an apology. The food was pedestrian at best. I will never go back."
