We went for brunch and the service was terrible. We never had the same waiter twice, and while there were probably 5 waiters and waitresses hovering around our table, they rarely made eye contact. Every time we wanted something we had to wave and shout, it was not how you want to spend your brunch time with friends. I live nearby so really wanted Les Halles to be good for brunch, but it just wasn't. The management really needs to give the waitstaff a lot more training before I'm going back.

I went to this place after reading reviews and doing some online research while on a visit from out-of-town for work. I will preface this by saying I've worked in the industry for almost 10 years... Since I dined alone I opted to sit at the bar and have some appetizers and a drink. I ordered $1 oysters and the pork rillettes off of the Bar happy hour menu and enjoyed both. The service at the bar was lacking, however. I enjoyed one glass of wine and when I had finished my empty glass sat in front of me for nearly 15 minutes while two bartenders walked by me serveral times. Not once did they offer me another glass. While they were friendly, they were not observant. I may/may not return to sample more of the menu in the future.

Over priced main dishes covered with a huge amount of french fries. Lots of wait staff moving around without any attention to the needs of our group of five ( one 5 year old and 4 adults. Food took almost an hour to get to us. We requested that a waiter take our wine order and yet we only saw "bussing" staff who could not bring us any wine. Dessert was listed on the children's menu. No price was listed on that menu for anything separately, yet when the bill finally came, there was a separate charge for the five year old's dessert that was almost as much as the price listed for his meal.

Halloween night the staff in costume, a full house and Les Halles ambiance. Escargot, Skirt Steak, Duck and Brie were all great. Even with the holiday crowd, the service was timely. A good time was had by all.

We had family meet us here from several states. No one had ever eaten at this restaurant and one never really knows till it can be too late. We had requested upstairs and that's where we ate the best food we'd had in the city! Friendly staff, very good wine list, and the food was beyond outstanding. If you don't mind a friendly but noisy as heck place downstairs would be fun...

I ordered a Beck's and received the non-alchoholic version. I should have read the fine print on the menu. The onion soup needed more cheese on top. The cheese on top was burned black. Arugala salad was very good. Bread basket very good. Butter for bread was chilled properly, nice. Drinks were costly for thin glass but were properly made. Water served promptly. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was 80-90' rock music, I was expecting softer French music.

I've had many meals here and this was the first time that I was disappointed. The escargot were not hot, garlicky enough nor swimming in butter., although I ate them. The mussels were a disaster....too small to be called a mussel. I had expected plump and juicy but got just the opposite.

I loved the food, but we waited 45 minutes for it. The women at the next table sat down, ordered, got their food, sent it back, and had it served a second time long before we got our food. Really disappointed in everything but the food, which is delicious but not worth the wait we had.

Still consistent. The best moules-frites(probably the best fries in town). And everything else is always very good -- we've been dining at Les Halles since the days when Anthony Bourdain was behind the meat counter at the Park Avenue location. We get to NY every couple of months and never miss a chance to eat at Les Halles.

Made res for 7 ppl, and upon arrival mentioned we'd be 8 ppl for brunch, asking for an extra setting at the table. Despite the request, after we were seated - we noticed the table was set for 7 with no real room to add an addition person unless we squeezed in (which we did). The service wasn't as on point as we'd have liked...it took some time to get our orders in, and to get more drink orders in...we asked the waiter for an extra setting for the 8th person, and some water - which we had to ask the busboy for as the waiter forgot to bring it by. The fries were amazing. The drinks were strong, but the house liquor gave a few of us a headache. The food varied, some good and others average. Overall, wasn't bad - but not likely to return.

While in town on business in lower Manhattan Wall Street area, I was so pleased to have found Les Halles. Wonderful wood paneled bistro atmosphere with an interesting and elevated menu. Claims Anthony Bourdain as their "chef at large." Service was perfect, reasonable pricing, and the food was very good. I would definitely return!

Of course I was expecting more, being an Anthony fan. But when the best part of the meal is the fries and steamed green beans, well, quite disappointed! The tuna in my Nicoise, while rare enough, was dry and not very tasty, and it seemed to have 'been out' for a while. The remainder of the salad was acceptable, nothing more. My wife's mussels were nearly tasteless, as was the juice remaining in the bowl, which we'd hoped to dunk the very good whole grain wheat bread in. No noticeable taste of interest; no dunking done. Meanwhile, the fries were delicious, as were the green beans that we ordered for a side. Perhaps we'll just stick to those next time.

Friends visiting from North Dakota are big Anthony Bourdain fans and requested to eat at Les Halles their last night in NYC. It's one of our favorite restaurants downtown so we happily obliged. We started with the baked brie, and then three of us ate the specials, skate and steaks, and one had the sausage and sauerkraut dish. We loved learning that Monday nights are half price wine nights, so of course we shared a bottle of a medium bodied French wine. We finished with cheesecake and the banana flambé, which was entertaining as they flambé the banana at your table. Service was friendly and we were able to sample two wines in order to select the bottle. A great night out! Gotta love Les Halles.

Our special occasion was my husband´s 60th anniversary. Party of 5. Great ambiance, it felt like a brasserie in Paris ( we often have dinner in brasseries in the French capital at only 4 hours from our home in the Netherlands). The menu is in French, just a few English translation, so we ordered in French. However, the waiter didn´t understand a word in French!! We were very surprised when he told us that he doesn´t understand the French language at all ,since he lives in the US??? We think part of the service should be a certain communication in French because Les Halles is supposed te be a French restaurant. Then the frisee salade to be served with Roquefort comes with a small piece of the cheapest blue cheese ( no Roquefort)..

We went to Les Halles for a special dinner with family in town. The main course was pretty average. The seafood was on point but other than that all the dishes were nothing to rave about. For dessert, we ordered Bananas Foster which was supposed to be prepared table side. They were out of rum so they couldn't make it with rum which we said was fine. Still, the guy who prepared the dish table side for us didn't know what he was doing. It was very disappointing. Additionally, the dish was supposed to come with ice cream. For one serving, which we paid almost $20 for, we only got enough ice cream to provide about four bites. It was absurd. And each dish only had one banana. Such a rip off and highly disappointing!

Very good food and wine: friends reported that both steaks and seafood were delicious. I wouldn't have thought to order the trout special but did and was very pleased with the boned fillet, which was succulent and tasty. Best fries in Manhattan? When we first arrived there was a lot of noise in the front of the restaurant, but we sat in the back where it was somewhat quieter and you could hold a conversation. The service was great. I have been to this restaurant MANY times over the years, but last night was a NIGHTMARE for our table of five. The service was not as good as it had been in the past. One companion's meal was not done as requested. Wine ordered was not available. Another bottle was offered at the same price, but the second bottle of the same wine was not. We had to request our bill THREE times before it was delivered. My companions were not amused, which is a pity, as we had been there before and were planning monthly dinners there. I do not know what happened to the quality of their servers, but this is something that should be looked into and remedied.
