Thanks!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat you would expect from Anthony!I went to Les Halles with pretty high expectations, but I was a bit guarded becasue I have been let down before with other "celebrity" chef restaurant experiences where all the chef has lost perspective and spends so much time on plate presentation and ambiance that they forget that we are there to eat. The service was great and the food did not let me down! I had the filet and my wife had the tuna. Both were cooked perfectly and delivered in a very timely manner. I had the occasion to taste a 1969 Chateau Lafite Rothchild a number of years ago and I would explain my meal with the same description of that wine... A good choice for a business dinner or lunch for those looking for an alternative to the theme restaurant steak houses like Morton's or Capital Grill. More of a neighborhood bistro feel. It's a reliable staple - good food, good service, nice without being stuffy. Since we come so often, I like to try different things on the menu. I've made my way through all their mussels, the curry mussels are my favorite. My fiance likes either their steak frites or duck, and once had a lamb special that was excellent. The chef knows his way around a piece of meat and although I didn't try the prime rib for two, that will be my choice on my next visit. Great wine list but then I only drink French wine so I am biased. Crepes Suzette at the table was a nice authentic touch by an authentic French pastry chef. I liked this restaurant a lot despite mixed reviews at our table and I will go back on my next visit to NY because in addition to being a fun place to visit I didn't mortgage my house to pay the bill. The food was excellent, just as my previous time. The Terrine Mason and Steak Tartare was wonderful. Only issue I ran into was at the end of the evening. My waiter, which I ended up having both of the time I have gone here, took my dessert and coffee order. Then came back about 20 minutes later to see if I needed anything else, but my dessert and coffee had never arrived. He took care of the matter immediately. But then he disappeared again and I finally had to flag down another waiter for my check. He was fine the 1st time I went here. It quickly became our favorite go-to spot in the neighborhood for date night. Fantastic food, great ambiance and service, a great wine list and beer list (the latter is fairly rare for a French bistro). Given the location, we always find it relatively easy to get a reservation with just a few hours notice. It's not incredibly noisy, also a plus, and makes for a great date spot as well as a group outing (though we've only been on our dates). Highly recommend. Love to be back there5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent FoodGreat restaurant. Went here for Mother's Day and we completely ignored the pre-fix menu, just ordered from the regular menu. It was glorious. There were four of us so of course we all ordered from the different sides of the menu for all meals. We are not a group to go through three whole courses but here everything was too good to pass up. We had everything from the beets appetizer to the banana flambe dessert. All the dishes were amazing. The meat fell apart in your mouth, the duck wasn't chewy like other restaurants would serve. Absolutely everything was 'lick your plate clean' good. The flambe came out and was prepared right in front of you, so that was a good show, especially after a few glasses of their huge wine selection.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood French bistroEaten there twice. I had steak tartare which was beautifully prepared at the table to my specifications. The frites and side salad were great. My wife's confit d'canard was superb as was the apple tart we shared for dessert. We went on a Monday which is 1/2 price wine night, which was still another treat. We've now been to both Les Halles, this one on John Street and the one on Park Ave...both are great in all respects.
