Diner Reviews
  • "This resto is right near the top of my most memorable meals ever list, accumulated over 50+ years.Go, before everyone else discovers it and you have to wait forever to get a reservation only to listen to the OMGs of wannabe foodies at the table next to you. Unpretentious, authentic, beautiful and real: Sophisticated, delicious food, charming service, downright cheap wine. OMG OMG, how can I say that? I can't help it!"

  • "This is a very charming cozy restaurant with a small but excellent staff. The open kitchen allows the diners to really get in tune with the chef and watch the artist at work. Request seating at the counter for a better view of the kitchen."

  • "It is nice to treat yourself now and again. Les Deux Singes de Montarvie is a little pricey, it's true, but given that, it is well worth it. The food was excellent, the service impeccable and the atmosphere most agreeable. We will no doubt return."

  • "Absolutely exquisite yet non pretentious food. I can't wait to go back to try everything on the menu as many times as possible."

  • "Just a fabulous dining experience. The restaurant is very quaint and seats maybe 25. The menu is not extensive but should be able to find somethig for every taste. I had the Korean BBQ duck and while I usually do not order duck, the flavor and tenderness was so outstanding, I actually got goose bumps when I tasted the thigh, just OUTSTANDING! My honey got a seafood special which was porgy that she hadn't had since her youth and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Wine recomendation was perfect, the attentiveness of the owner who waited on us was perfect, the little surprises the chefs sent over was perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "Among the best eating experiences I've had in Montreal. The duck ravioli is a wonder, and the porgy (replacing the Atlantic trio) is about as close to perfect as a deceptively casual fish plate can be -- unpretentious and incredible. We finished things off with the decadent île-flottant (AMAZING meringue!) and cappuccino that's even better than the rightly famous nearby cafés in Mile End. Les Deux Singes is a treasure."

  • "Just a few tables (for 2 mostly) in a motley restaurant where the front windows are 2 mobile garage doors. The young staff was courteous and very professional. The limited wine list is on a chalkboard - not private imports - but good wines. No tablecloth but 2 odd place mats. As for the food: absolutely marvellous! The Chaudrée of Salted Cod was divine and the Veal Chop was so tender it could be cut without a knife. The presentation was sophisticated (with edible flowers). The Fondant au chocolat was also elaborate but definitely for the sweet tooth! Highly recommended for foodies who don't need a glamorous and romantic place."

  • "Best meal enjoyed in a restaurant in Montreal in a very long time! Searching for a new restaurant experience and disappointed by the Gazete's top list of restaurants for 2013 and surprised to see Les Deux Singes De Montarvie rated as top pick by Trip Advisor I decided to check it out.! Very happy I did, 5 stars all around! Exciting to see what a young team can do. Suggest you bypass the more established restaurants riding on their reputations and try this place, I'm sure you will be glad you did!"

  • "The 2 Monkey's is one of Montreal's better farm to table restaurants. The owners are delightful and will whatever it takes to make your evening special. The food is unique and changes every few months. The list is minimal but not expensive and what they offer is available by the bottle or glass. Don't be shy to ask for a taste. Go and enjoy."

A recommander absolument!"

  • "Great experience! The waiter was friendly and very helpful. We loved everything we had (ordered the duck ravioli with foie gras sauce, chicken rolls with thai curry coconut milk sauce and the tartare as appetizers; the atlantic trio and the lamb as main courses). The wines are all private imports and are decently priced, we loved all the ones we tried. We enjoyed our meal and the overall experience. Bill was $200 (including a couple wines by the glass and a bottle of red at $50), not expensive for the quality of the food. Will definitely recommend this place to friends, and will certainly return soon."

  • "Only 2 guys in the kitchen putting out the most amazing food! Everything was great from start to finish. The service was impeccable - on par with the food, only 2 servers.. We had the female, she was really helpful, we don't speak French. Very English friendly when some places in the city cater to French Speakers. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great gem in Montreal!! Only 9 tables and a few bar stools so make sure you make a reservation!"

  • "From the fresh delicious baguatte for the table to the perfect cappuccino at the end, everything they served in this cozy restaurant was top notch and the service was both friendly and attentive. Well worth the trip from downtown even in the middle of a winter storm!"

  • "I was looking for a special place to take my parents for dinner when they visited me for Christmas in Montreal. I found this restaurant online and it had great reviews plus the menu looked great. I must say, my expectations were high when we got there. But the restaurant exceeded all expectations. My parents, who are both very critical and have had their fair share of great dining experiences, absolutely loved it! The ambiance was cosy and intimate. The staff super friendly and helpful. And the food. Oh my, the food: so great! Rich combinations of flavors, I had extremely tender lamb. Creative presentation of the dishes. Amazing wines to come with it. Nothing but compliments for this restaurant."

  • "We dined here for the first time with two guests we had in town from Washington, D.C. And couldn't have been more impressed with the immaculate service and food. The portions are perfect, extremely well prepared and absolutely delicious. We were especially impressed with the waitress and her knowledge and explanation of menu items. Every dish we had was divine, and we especially loved the endive salad, the lamb knuckle and veal tenderloin, and finally the floating island merengue. It's not pretentious, the food is perfect and the service impressive. What else can you ask for!? Truly one of the best in montreal."

Both were tender and delicious. The portions were generous. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Montreal."

  • "At 6 pm I was the first reservation of the evening. I was greeted by name, seated at the bar in front of the open kitchen. The two chefs were great to watch in the small kitchen; the sommelier/waiter was good with suggestions and checking that everything was tasting good. I'm a small eater, so I had 3 appetizers that suited me just fine."

  • "Had heard great things about this slightly left-of-centre little restaurant tucked away off the main drags of the plateau, and it didn't disappoint. Food was amazing, service was warm and friendly, wine was good. Paid a little more than I was expecting, but that included a generous and well-deserved tip. If it wasn't for the hundred other places we have to try in the next week I would happily return."

  • "Very creative execution of classic and sometimes eclectic dishes, never over-the-top. We tried 5 dishes in total and they were all fantastic. Presentation is great, portions are moderate but filling and the flavor on everything was excellent. Small menu but very varied and probably a great dish for just about anyone (would not really recommend for kids). Service was excellent and the prices were moderate considering the exceptional dining experience."

  • "This was a GREAT dining extravaganza! The proprietor greeted us and said "Welcome! You will have fun!". And we did! Young Shawn, the chef, is astoundingly talented. The food was about the best we have ever had in a restaurant. I had the shrimp chowder with mussels, the veal, and a floating island for dessert. The 4 of us enjoyed delicious Spanish red wine recommended by the owner, who was also our server. She was so efficient and friendly and delightful and knowledgeable! We hugged her when we left. We already have told several friends they must go here. It is an experience not to be missed!"

  • "When you walk in, your parties name is written on a small chalkboard on your table. What a personal touch! The wait staff is excellent. We were served by Sean, and the owner also visited our table on several occasions. Both gave a service that was beyond reproach. The food was fabulous. The soup of the day was AMAZING, as were the salad and the duck ravioli. The boar belly was also excellent, and so were both steaks on the menu and the risotto. Everything was perfectly cooked. The desserts also had the entire table raving. The chef came out to visit our table and the end, as did the owner. I have never been so well treated at a restaurant. We will definitely be going back!"

It was a reasonable cab ride from downtown; food was absolutely wonderful, nice wine, and fabulous dessert. Would definitely return if in the area again, and recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely, evening."

  • "Meal highlights were duck Ravioli with fois gras & braised quail done in coconut curry. Also terrific was the veal with blue cheese. Excellent attentive service. Friendly owner and a chef who has an eye for detail with great presentation & even better delivery. Well done! Do not repeat restaurants in general when visiting Montreal (too many to chose from) but this one is a must."
