Diner Reviews
  • "My girlfriend and I were at the restaurant for 3 hours. It was a very relaxed environment. Service was impressive considering there was only 1 waiter. Beef Bourguignon was delicious!! Chacuterie platter was a perfect start. Wasn't too impressed with dessert, but the presentation was lovely. Definitely go back again."

  • "My bf and I had already been to this restaurant a few months ago and it was great !! Attentive service, normal wait time for dishes, great quality food. This time, assuming service and food quality was going to the same, we went with a few friends. However, this time around, the experience was overall quite disappointing. First, the dish that I was looking forward to the most, their Terrine de Foie Gras, was not on the menu that night. Then, once we FINALLY got our dishes, Boeuf Bourgignon though nicely seasoned was firm. My Duck Mac n' Cheese was so heavy on the cheese, it was quite unpleasant. Don't get me wrong, I love cheese, but this was such a turn off."

  • "I dined alone while on a business trip. I was very comfortable, service was excellent and I had a wonderful cassoulet - perfect for a chilly winter evening. I would definitely recommend to others!"

  • "The only reason I give four stars instead of five is that everything is with my expectation. Nothing that really jumps out to make me rank a five. In general, it is a good french restaurant that you would expect. The snails are good. I ordered beef tartare and it's fresh and delicious. Foie Gras... hmm... let's skip that. Overall is great though!"

  • "I had dinner there on Valentine's weekend. I loved this place, we had a table by the fireplace, the best place to be in the winter. the food is amazing. It was the perfect place for my boyfriend to propose to me!"

  • "I went there to celebrate Valentine's Day, we sat near the fireplace and it was very romantic... The service was excellent (fast, respectful, helpful) and the food was amazing (unique, tasty, filling)! We will be back there with friends next time!"

  • "We tried Les Deux Gamins because we've been looking for a french brasserie type of place for a while. When you see Cassoulet on the menu, you know it's trying to do it well. The wait staff was excellent, taking care of everything for us. Wine recommendation was spot on, I really can't say enough about this place. It was a great find and we'll be going back more often. If you're looking for a proper country style meal, give this place a try. The charcuiteries board was very good and a perfect way to start the meal paired with a glass of sparkling wine. The fire place adds a lot of charm to the place."

  • "It is not the best food I ever ate but it was good. The ambiance is very romantic and calm, perfect for a date! The food came out quick form the kitchen but our waitress did the job but just. They probably have more then one waitress so the odds of getting the same one are slim so I wouldn't take that in account if you want to go there. Overall,my girlfriend and I enjoyed our evening there and I do recommend the restaurant."

  • "Finding a reasonably priced French restaurant in Montreal is no small task. This bistro was small in the best way. Real bistro food with no overwrought yuppie hippie post modern invention and no fussy big ballon globlets for the nicely priced wine. The lamb shank on puréed parsnips and carrots was perfectly done, the pâté de foie gras starter was silky (and enough for two), and the dessert cheeses were excellent and local. Service was friendly and efficient, and the music was soft jazz. What I can't understand is why it was nearly empty on a Friday night."

  • "I reserved a table to celebrate my husband´s birthday at Le Deux Gamins and it was an amazing surprise. Not just the food was absolutely great, but the atmosphere seems perfect to the ocasion and the service was just perfect. We'll be coming back for sure!"

  • "I went there with a group of 3. Their fresh from the oven bread, foie gras, and duck confit was delicious. Everyone se also really enjoyed their food. And service was great, not too much that you feel your meal is constantly being interrupted, and not too scarce that you would have to look around for a water refill. We were all very pleased and will definitely be going there again."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a resident of Montreal. We were in town for a family wedding and were looking for a French dining experience for our large group of 13. We had ages 14-60+ represented. The French Onion soup, charcuterie plate, beef bourgogne and duck mac and cheese were amazing. The ambiance was energetic and lively. Since this was a family gathering we wanted a place where we could talk and catch up. We could hear each other over the other diners. The service staff was attentive and a little slow. We didn't mind the natural slow pace of dinner where we could really enjoy the food, ambiance and each other. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Our family went here with 6 parents (over 50) and 7 kids from 14 to 26. Two tables. Most friendly service in the city. Incredible food. Perfect seating arrangements. Accommodating, delicious, fun, easy and most important memorable for each of us. This was the perfect restaurant to set the tone for a wonderful weekend!"

  • "My friend and I stumbled across les Deux Gamins last year heading towards another restaurant. We are glad we found this French restaurant that serves a traditional thanksgiving dinner consisting of pieces of turkey served all the fixings. This includes stuffing, green peas, cranberries, and mashed potatoes. The meal ends with pumpkin pie although the crust was more French than the typical one you normally find with the pie. The service is good and the ambiance is French bistro. Recommended if you are looking to celebrate the holiday without the hassle of cooking."

  • "The food was OK, but nothing special. Menu is very limited as is the wine list. Not what I expected based on others' reviews that it was outstanding and "the best meal in Montreal". I guess they haven't been to France. Very average."

  • "When I was browsing for a restaurant I thought this would be stuffy like Bouchon Bilk, but it was the opposite. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and it was easy to get a table. I ordered a glass of wine, the foie gras terrine, and the duck confit. My only regret was that I did not have a big enough stomach. The food was so rich and the portions were decent. I got 2 slices of the foie gras, could swear that it was 1" by 4" big, I ran out of bread instantly. It was so good. I had a fear that the menu would be solely in French, as common is many restaurants, but the menu came out to have both english and french. It was a wonderful evening."

  • "My boyfriend and I found this restaurant on Yelp, and decided to check it out for a romantic Friday night meal. We made reservations online only about an hour before going, and were on the list when we arrived. We were seated right away, and it wasn't too busy which allowed for a more intimate feel. We sat at the back at a table for two, near the bar and the fireplace. The staff were so friendly! Our waiter was sweet – pulled our chairs out and even hung our jackets. I ordered the special, a mushroom risotto, which was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Mac & Cheese with Duck Confit – this was probably one of the best dishes either of us have ever tasted. Perfect portion sizes. Cute decor. Fresh bread. We loved it here!"

  • "We had the filet mignon and the duck confit. Both insanely delicious. The waitress kindly offered us a table for two when it opened up after she seated us at a longer row of tables first. It was bustling and busy around 9pm but they took care of us quickly. Would go again for sure."

  • "Fantastic restaurant! We were a party of 4 and we had a great meal and a great time. The food was outstanding, simple but tasty ingredients and generous portions. They also have a very affordable wine list. The servers were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable."

  • "This is a great French Bistro located on a pedestrian street. We had the French onion soup, one of the best I've ever had, the very tasty duck confi and steak tartar, both awesome. The service was attentive but not rushed and the atmosphere rivaled any of our favorite Amelie Poutin type restaurant we frequent in Paris. We'll become regulars."

  • "We had an amazing dinner at Les Deux Gamins. The food was absolutely delicious, we loved the ambiance and the service was very warm and attentive. Both the food and the wine were very affordable. To me, it is one of the best French bistros of Montreal. We will be back for more!!"

  • "There are a ton of great restaurants in Montreal. This is not one them. The food was mediocre at best but the real issue was the service. Total disaster. Completely ignored when we arrived and had to signal someone to order drinks. Cold (read:no prep required) appetizer took ages to arrive and then never cleared away. We arrived at the restaurant at 7. By 8:30, we are still waiting for our mains and people around us who had arrived after us had been served ages before. Evening never improved - sever had agreed to ask chef to make a small main course for my son, but, without asking us, delivered a regular main course and charged us $22 for it. Honestly. Total disaster. Go somewhere else."
