My husband and I have had some of our best meals at Leopolds, and last night did not disappoint. There Mussels and frites are the best in the city. They also have great cocktails and a fantastic beer menu for beer geeks like me. This is by far my favorite restaurant in Chicago.

We are planning a visit to Belgium so we thought we'd enjoy the Belgian-inspired menu and beers offered (Leopold beautifully combines great local foods with Belgian inspiration). I posted a recommendation to Chicago friends as well. We had the Chef's Week menu and enjoyed everything. The mussels were great and the rabbit salad was notable. Leopold is located in an area of the City that has a lot of great spots: sophisticated with that "neighborhood gem" casual, relaxing atmosphere we like. Will definitely return to Leopold!

Very good. We are visiting from out of town and came here for a Friday night. Was very rainy, taxis hard to get, and they were quite accomodating to our lateness, and the service was great throughout the meal. I have been to other Belgian restaurants in the Washington DC area and thought they were a tad better, but my dining companion actually thought Leopold's was better. The bread was to die for, the squash salad delicious, the charcuterie generous and very tasty. I had Flat Iron, was very good though slightly too rare for my personal taste. The frites were very good but got a little soggy being served in the mug instead of a more open container.

Belgium restaurant is rare to find in Chicago. They do a good job both in terms of ambience and food. Veal Sweetbreads had authentic taste with a modern twist. Scallops were cooked just right creating a nice harmony with the rest of ingredients. The server was attentive and honest giving good advice so that we can choose dishes that would suit to our taste and appetite. Price is a bit on a high-side considering casual menu they have. But, overall, it was a good experience. I would go back.

Enjoyed our visit. Boutique vodka from Napa was good. Salad was fresh. Sweetbreads were smoky and delicious. Duck breast with wild mushrooms tender and tasty. Mussels with spicy sauce were yum, came with a heapin’ helpin’ of fries, too much to finish! The Winterkoninck ale was worth savoring & recommending. Good-sized scoops of eggnog and the malted vanilla gelato were a nice cap to the adventure. A European atmosphere in a way, especially with the music early on. Like many places these days, seems like they lie about being busy certain days and times, even to open table; they were pretty empty until after 8 (which kept it nice and quiet for normal conversation).service was a little weird and bossy, their schtick, I guess.

The food was great but the first thing we noticed when we walked in was smokey haze and it was a pretty strong smell too. The kitchen needs some serious ventilation or something. It wasn't pleasant. Our server was nice but was pushy when we didn't order as much food as she recommended we should. We had plenty of food and if we had followed her suggestion we would have had way more than we needed. I don't like feeling bullied or like they are trying to just boost up the check.

We dined at Leopold the other night and really enjoyed it. I had the smoked salmon belly salad, rabbit/lentil stew, and the belgian waffle dessert. My husband had the warm winter squash salad and chocolate pave (dessert), which I tried. We also split the frites and brussels sprouts. I thought all of my food was very good. The warm squash salad was amazing, as was the chocolate pave (better than the waffle). Frites and brussels sprouts were truly delicious. Spectacular beer menu with some real gems on tap. I would come back again!

Great service and good food. While it bills itself as a "small plates" place, we found the portion to be of a nice size for one, unlike some small plate where there are just a few nibbles on plate. If you have the mussels, the grilled bread is a must! Our waiter was very friendly and helpful without being overbearing or "put on".

I love the atmosphere at Leopald. Our waitress was great. The beers are great. The food was good but not great. I was told they have a new chef. The last time I was here was in Oct. 2011 and thought the food was better. I feel that the value is a bit lacking now. I'd suggest just going for a drink at the bar and having a quick bite vs. spending $$$ on dinner.

Overall experience was alright. The sausage in the charcuterie choices was particularly good, as were the moules and white fish. Cheese servings were laughable--they were very tiny for 6 dollars.Veal sweetbreads needed some moisture it was fried and buried under a pile of greens. There was also too long of a wait in between courses.

Went there for NYE and have to say it was the most disappointing NYE meal I have had, especially for the price. The only thing that won me over was mushroom salad. Not a lot of substance overall, to prepare for night of drinking. I dined there before and the food was really good comfort food, and the room was cozier. Now it looks like every other sheik expensive restaurant out there, without the quality. Sorry, but I won't be going back. Its in my neighborhood, but there are a number of other restaurants here too like Mexique, Green Zebra, West Town and Branch 27, if I desire a higher end meal.

I met my boyfriend at Leopold's for an impromptu Saturday night dinner. We had been once before for apps and drinks; we enjoyed it then so we thought we'd try it again and went early enough to get a table on a whim. We had a great server who seemed to really know her beer pairings and made excellent recommendations. The food was incredible--well-balanced and unique flavors. I loved the atmosphere: music and art were really good. We went early in the evening so there were only a couple of families in there, or people at the bar but we were not looking for a scene. I will definitely go again.

Great, low-key but classic food. Charcuterie was excellent, moules and frites perfect and classic as well. Great place to go for bistro-comfort food. "Belgian" waffles not (they don't have the chewiness or sugar crystals of the real thing) but still a very satisfying finish. I'm not a beer drinker, but the absinthe selection was very nice and presented in the traditional way.

As much a place to enjoy Belgian-style (and true Belgian) beers, its menu is interesting, but having never been to Belgium, I have no idea how much food is distinctively theirs. I know of Waterzooi, their seafood stew, which is there. Belgians are big on mussels and they serve theirs two ways — spicy and not. Both were delicious. Best of all — French fries, which were invented in Belgium. Smoked duck breast was very subtle in its smokiness — too subtle for me, but tender and with a nice duck confit. Of our group of four, I was most enthusiastic of a pork confit topped with melted cheese; disliked by all the others. On the whole, a nice place.

My husband, adult son and adult daughter ate at Leopold this past week. The food was wonderful. The servers were very attentive but the kitchen was very slow. The restaurant was not that full but the kitchen could not keep up with orders. The pork sausage and aderkase (blue type cheese) were excellent. Hightlights of the meal (we all shared, especially since they would bring one or two items) were: a small poutine with fries and curds; mussels with a blue cheese sauce, smoked rabbit with fava beans; scallops with a bacon sauce; skirt steak; and housemade farmhouse cheese pierogis. The Belgian waffle with berries and whipped cream was a great way to end the meal. The beer list was extensive. We had Blanche de Bruxe Belgian beer.

We really enjoyed the food, drinks and service at Leopold, however it was a shame that the decided to go with Parisian style seating. I know it's a European style restaurant, but one of the great things about the US is how much space there is. You don't need to be knocking elbows with the table next to you or lowering you voice to a whisper. Anyway, other than that, everything was wonderful. The service was some of the best I've had in Chicago; friendly, knowledgable, and not pestering. The food was delicious! You must try the charcuterie plate, and course the poutine, oh and the pretzel! Also save room for dessert, pannacotta, yum!! They also have a great selection of beers, wines and make a tasty cocktails!

This is the 3rd time my wife and I have been here. We have gone here for a romantic dinner, a birthday surprise, and with a larger group of foodie friends. The design and layout of the restaurant and bar is incredibly well thought-out, but the real stars are the food and the service. I'm always amazed at how creative they can be with a small menu. Great character and ambiance, a staff that is on top of everything, a very unique selection of beers, and perfectly executed Belgium dishes. We are so thankful this place is in our neighborhood. Having a friend coming to town on Friday night and having sees Leopold mentioned on Open table we decided to go for dinner. The scene after 8:00 P.M. became exactly what I expected: couples on dates, groups of friends at the low tables in the corner and at the bar. Overall it never gotten too loud, you can have a conversation without yelling. Food unfortunately needs more work. My apple salad was unimpressive and bland. Portions were too small; they only served two scallops in sauce that was lukewarm. Good thing was our server told me it would be small and suggested to order salad, too. My friend had skirt stake, which was just alright. We then had to order a charcuterie plate because we were still hungry. I liked our server.
