A word from Lenoir Restaurant
LENOIR is a small neighborhood restaurant run by a husband and wife team dedicated to creating inspired dishes using the best of Central Texas' produce, meat & cheeses and Gulf seafood. We have a fabulous, thoughtful wine and beer list that pairs well with the menu. Our dining room is casually intimate, perfect for date night, friendly get-togethers and business dinners, and our backyard wine garden is private and magical, boasting some of Austin's oldest live oak trees. The food is great, the service friendly and we are located in the cool & fast-expanding Bouldin Creek neighborhood on South First Street.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Superior service. Outstanding food, uniquely prepared although quantity was a bit on the skimpy side. Pleasant atmosphere. Noise levels were modest allowing normal conversation. All in all, a very pleasant evening. We will return."

  • "Party of 4, 2 adults and 2 adventurous teens. We chose to order 1 of everything (12 different dishes) and split them each 4 ways. The food was amazing. Each dish was perfectly cooked. Ingredients were fresh and very well-matched. There wasn't a single dish I would refuse if offered again. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and well-timed. If we lived closer to Austin, we would be here more often!"

  • "I think this place is a must, especially if you are staying in the area. We came to Austin for a bachelorette weekend, and wanted a place with that was well designed to savour the food. Beautiful design touches make the physical space, but food was great as well."

  • "Having never been to Lenoir, I had no idea what I was doing making a reservation for 12 people to celebrate my girlfriend's 30th birthday. Apparently, a table of 12 basically fills 2/3 of the restaurant, which is a small but very, very cool and intimate space. Without hesitation, the folks at Lenoir took the reservation and when we arrived were incredibly accommodating. They let us take our time decide what to order and gave us plenty of time to finish each course. Not once did we feel rushed to get in and out. To say the food was amazing, would be an understatement. I was blown away, from the first bite to the last. Thanks to everyone at Lenoir who helped make the evening so special for us!"

  • "Been trying to get in for a while. Worth the wait. Very good food and service. Portions are on the small side but we did the 3 courses for $38 and it was plenty of food. Would go again and would recommend it to friends"

  • "Lenoir has great food in an intimate setting. Service is attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Would definitely go back."

  • "The ambience is warm and cozy -- you may be sat at the bar or communal table, but it's still nice that way. The servers are knowledgeable and casual, so you feel taken care of, but not pushed or rushed. The food is outstanding; every dish is unexpected and wonderful."

  • "The title says it all. The delicious and complex dishes are unlike anything I have ever eaten. A wonderful dining experience."

  • "I enjoyed my dishes but wasn't blown away. The charred tomato dish was wonderful. My company had less appealing reviews and even had to send a dish back. The wait staff handled it really well but all in all it was a mixed night. I'd go back again but my company wouldn't."

  • "Loved this restaurant. It is a real gem. Very small and intimate, but stunningly beautiful. The food was unique and delicious."

  • "Our evening at Lenior was fantastic. The food was very well prepared and delicious. For those who live to eat, Lenior is a place that will not disappoint. Every dish we had contained fresh local ingredients that were paired perfectly and were a delight to eat. Thanks to Kelly for enthusiasm for the restaurant and her knowledge of the wine list and menu."

  • "The dining room was tiny and packed, and my date and I sat at the bar. As the crowd came in, it bcame obvious Lenoir is a "date restaurant". The noise level was perhaps a little high, but not overbearing. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was absolutely eclectic, creative, and overall fabulous. All in all, I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Very cute interior that invokes a modern yet quaint feel. Really good friendly service, a well designed wine list for every budget. 4 course Sunday pre fixe started off with a bang (fabulous charred tomato salad which an incredible combination of flavors with the tangy sweet tomato, cool whey from the sorbet, herby hits from basil and a chewy crunch from the toasted rye)...but ended with a whimper. Second course was a hodge podge of stuff: charred okra, chana daal, corn, pork cheek confit, tarragon, pork tongue. Just too much work and missteps in cooking. Quail as third course was good, especially the Indian styled green mole, dessert of chocolate pot de creme lacked chocolatiness though the thai basil added interest. Disappointing."

  • "Went there for a birthday dinner with five girlfriends. Great service, and wonderful wine. The price is just right, and loved the freedom to choose food from whatever category. Everyone was friendly, and the vibe was swoon worthy."

  • "Creative ingredients and nice mix of options, especially for a prix fixe arrangement. Wines are well priced too so not necessary to break the bank."

  • "Recently visited Lenoir with friends and I have to say we had a flawless evening. The service was excellent from start to finish and the food was truly superb. I can’t say enough about the redfish with squash and charred zucchini, it was delicious! The almond cake with peaches and roasted white chocolate…OMG…phenomenal! It is truly a dining experience not just a place to eat."

  • "We come to Austin a couple times a year as a treat away from kids, and We were heart broken when Barley Swine was closed in the only days we were to be in Austin, a friend suggested this place and it did NOT disappoint. We went on Sunday night (were seated right away, after being greates outside) when they have a four course menu. When you walk in your are transported to a quaint little cafe in France! Totally romantic and so beautiful! The food was fabulous and not too much. Did not leave feeling yuck. We both loved each course. Truly amazing kitchen. Wine pairing was fun as well. GO!"

  • "Small and intimate, good for a date. There have always been larger parties when I go, but it seems only one or two parties can sit at a time. Well worth the reservation. Delicious local ingredients. Although it's cheap for the quality of what you get, the overall bill was still very pricey. Definitely a special occasion place, unless you are very wealthy."

  • "These people know their way around food. Very creative, yet unpretentious offerings here. Realistic portions as well as very fair prices. The chairs could be a bit more comfortable, but the food and delightful service won out. We intend to return. "

  • "Can't say enough about the ambiance, the place was cozy and just adorable. The food was incredibly tasty and fresh, I just wish there had been more of it. I've eaten at similarly priced and locally sourced restaurants in town and have never left feeling hungry before (I went on a Sunday so there was no option to add additional dishes). Shoot, if there had even been some bread, that might have made a big difference. For that reason I personally would try other places before coming here again. "

  • "The service, food, and ambiance was terrific. The chef is very creative. It has become one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. "

  • "We have been going to Lenoir since it opened. It originally had the most outstanding, nuanced, interestingly spiced food. We have noticed in the last six months to a year the food quality increasingly slipping. Everything I just described is literally gone and instead the food has been substituted with salt as its main dominating flavor. I am writing this review to wake Lenoir up. They don't need to appeal to the masses. Instead, they should remain true to their initial objective: a fine dining restaurant with both artistic excellence in food and environment."

  • "We had previously joined Lenoir for a 'vegetarian bbq', nothing like a bbq but little pieces of happiness merged with a jazz band in their garden... And now we came back for the 'regular' dinner. It was great! Every week they have a newmenu with 12 items (eg 3 starters, 6 entrees, 3 desserts) of which you can choose 3, which ever combination (I choose 2 desserts and 1 entree), and every bit is perfection! A must go if you are a foodie!"

  • "We dined at Lenoir when we were in Austin for our son's graduation from UT. We absolutely loved this tiny quirky place! The food was amazing. We all ordered different dishes so that we could compare and contrast. Nothing disappointed! The quality of ingredients and the creativity of the combinations were top drawer. We left feeling totally satiated. What could be better than that? The service was impeccable and the wine list had some unusual but excellent offerings that we have never seen before. We will definitely go back next time we're in town!"

  • "A gem of a restaurant. Tiny in size and with unique creative dishes, the chefs combine many flavors to create savory complex dishes with deep flavor and pleasing textures. The Sunday prix fixe menu was well designed and each dish complimented the next aided by excellented wine choices. A bit crowded because of its small size, but worth it to watch the chefs through the service window turn out plate after plate of artistry from their small corner. My taste buds shouted hooray! Why not great yet? A larger quieter dining room would allow me to feel less rushed and savor each bite as it deserved. "

  • "Well we heard such great things about it, but stayed away whenever we looked at the menu online. We were right! That said, we loved our server. We barely ate and saved room for gelato next door!! "

  • "Great experience at Lenoir. We had 6 different dishes - 4 of them were outstanding. The two fish dishes were pretty good - but not outstanding. We sat at the bar and had great service. The space is really great. And the prices were actually pretty reasonable for the quality of the food and the experience. We can't wait to go back."

  • "Friendly attentive staff...Clever, innovative, adaptive decor...Creative menu, food artisticly presented, however, to my taste, each dish lacked a clear distinct purpose. An example was the lamb. The taste of lamb did not come through because of the complexity of the ingredients (peanuts etc). Also the lamb was not tender. The two glasses of wine were excellent. "

  • "Superb food, great choices, unusual ingredients and attentive, knowledgeable servers combine for a one-of-a-kind dining experience. The seating area is small, but it is comfortable. Depending on your particular perch and your fellow guests, the close quarters promote a friendly atmosphere where fellow foodies can compare notes about wine and the exotic combinations of ingredients. Chef Duplechan is an Austin treasure--part mad scientist and part artist. Mmwahh! (You're welcome for not inserting an emoticon here with a French guy kissing his fingertips.)"

  • "We've been here a couple of times and enjoyed it on each occasion. They have one of the most interesting wine lists in town by far. It's not overly large, but unique in its offerings. The food is very good. As you would expect, some dishes hit closer to the mark than others, but the overall sampling is consistent and of great quality. At times, they do struggle with timing between courses. Overall, very good marks and one of our favorites in town."

  • "The menu was approachable - the ingredients all sounded familiar- but they were transformed in their combination on the plate. Each dish comprised of at least 4 different flavors, which you picked and combined like a buffet to create unique taste combinations, and all of them outstanding."
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "Yes, it is very "intimate" with seating for only around 35 but it didn't feel cramped. The rice crusted cobia, shrimp garlic sausage, and goat shank were fantastic. Some other reviewers have said the food was too salty, but I didn't perceive it that way. There were a number of elements to each plate, and salt was used sparingly to bring out some of the "accent" flavors. We will absolutely been recommending Lenoir to our friends."

  • "Lenoir aims high and succeeds in almost everything they try. For a fixed price, you pick any three dishes from four menu groups, in essence starters, seafood, meat, and dessert. Portions are small but the combinations of ingredients, tastes, and textures are surprising, original, and succulent. Hemp soup or goat shank (and the actual dishes are a lot more sophisticated than their main ingredient) aren't every-day items, but both were delicious. The minor misses came when some unusual spice or secondary ingredient weighed a bit too heavily in a dish's ensemble (for me, the honey pork terrine). But with adventurous cooking, that's occasionally going to happen. My wife and I had a great time at Lenoir, and would most happily go back."

  • "We had gone to Lenoir when it first opened and it was fabulous. The food was excellent. We went two nights ago and it was very disappointing. Three of the dishes risotto. Crudo, and rabbit were over salted. Worst was the rabbit - very dry and zero sauce to assist it. The server seemed indifferent to my feedback. Well, we eat out at least 2 -5 times a month in that neighborhood and you just lost my business. Indifferent now ?"

  • "Four of us (two couples newly acquainted) thoroughly enjoyed every minute and every bite of the lovingly prepared food at Lenoir on a Sunday night, which happened to be Easter Sunday and featured the chef's choice of a Passover Seder-inspired meal. The food was outstanding, the server attentive and the atmosphere cozy and bright. What's not to love?! Thank you, Lenoir staff!"
