Diner Reviews
  • "Wholesome food, pleasant service. Fortunate to have such a fine establishment in our neighborhood."

  • "Went here for lunch. Had the L'Ocean crepe and my friend had the crab cake special with kale salad. She didn't care for the kale but said the crab cake was wonderful. My crepe was outstanding - I always try to order them here. Sure wish they would put them back on the dinner menu. After all it's a French restaurant, don't understand why they wouldn't have crepes on the dinner menu. Also - if you want iced tea here it only comes in bottles and is over $5. That's crazy. Prices are high, but the food is delicious. Will be back."

  • "And he would have made a terrible mistake! He ended up GUSHING to our waiter about how awesome the special walleye pike in a white wine sauce was, my spinach crepe was nearly as divine, and they even accommodated the extremely fussy eater who accompanied us. The wine was perfect, our waiter very attentive. Try this place, you'll be impressed."

  • "We found this restaurant to be surprisingly pleasant in all respects. Food,Service and ambience. We will definitely be returning on a regular basis."

  • "We knew we would be five minutes late for our reservation, so we called. We had to wait for a table for over 20 min. with no direction to go to the bar, which would have been preferable to standing in the doorway. It seemed the hostess was a bit frantic. After we were seated, everything was great, including excellent food and table service."

  • "This is very enjoyable venue for lunch and after work drinks. The food is quite good and the service is most attentive. In the summer time one is allowd to bring one's dog to the outdoor dining area! Very nice gesture."

  • "Tried this for the first time for brunch. Pace was leisurely' service a tad slow but we weren't pushed to leave."

  • "had been there a couple of times before but not in a few years. Still the same (in a good way). Service was very good as was the food. Just keep in mind it's French so the selections may feel a little limited (alot of Steak and frites choices). My daughter had the Steak Peppercorn and my wife and I had a fish special - all plates were cleaned!. We ordered spinach as a side dish - very good! We had the profalites (sp?) creme puffs with ice cream and chocolate sauce instead of creme - you get three - we each had one. All in all a very nice dining experience. But not cheap - with a moderately priced bottle of wine and one cocktail it was $200. with tip. BTW, Luis was our waiter - he did a very nice job."

  • "L'Eiffel was a nice surprise in the Chicago suburbs. Excellent and interesting options and larger portions than you would expect from a French restaurant. Live music and an inviting, un-intimidating atmosphere. Good for couples or groups."

  • "A favorite of my husband and me, as well as my friends. Beautiful interior space and fabulous outdoor dining space. Can't go wrong either way. The food is always terrific, and sometimes they have amazing specials. Would recommend to everyone."

  • "Bouillabaisse was excellent, flavor reminiscent of New Orleans style cooking with a generous portion of seafood in it. Expected Braised pork shoulder to be fork tender, it was a bit dry, had to cut it with a knife. Rolls were served cold and that was unexpected since most french restaurants we have been in always served warm rolls. The desserts crepes were more like a thin pancake then a true french crepe and one was supposed to have caramel and chocolate in it, but only the chocolate could be tasted, both desserts were on the disappointing side. The wines were excellent and this is the place to go for a good wine selection. The wait staff was very good, polite, the food was brought to the table hot, but overall we would not go back."

  • "Overall, our dining experience was good. But the wine list is over-priced. L'Eiffel should have "vin du patron," which is reasonably priced. There is no French beer available. My wine had sediment in the bottom of the glass. My husband liked the roasted duck, but he could tell it was cooked in advance. My crepe Oceane was both good and filling. They should know the difference between an expresso and a moka. There was an advertisement for a burgundy menu on the table, but the fine print was impossible to read. The chairs and tables are too small. When you sit next to the window, there is a cold feeling. Why are the daily specials priced higher than the regular menu? The service is inconsistent; however, our server was very attentive."

  • "We were so pleased with this restaurant. It had a wonderful variety of menu items and wonderful service. Perfect for those people who just want to get away from it all - especially at night and away from the kids. Been there before for lunch and it was equally good then. Wish they would offer quiche at both lunch and dinner. Wine list was equally great and the desserts - really were wonderful! Can't say enough good things about this place - we'll be back..."

  • "I took my sister and niece for a birthday treat. The tomato spread and rolls were tasty. The three of us had crepes which were delicius and filling, so filling we had no room for dessert. Would love to go back in the summer and sit outside in their patio. Highly recommend for a special lunch out."

  • "The service was excellent but the main dish crepes were just average. The beef bourgungion(sp) seemed like stew meat - maybe a poor selection for a crepe dish on my part. My husband's Cajun crepe dish was not spicy enough but good otherwise. The champagne was excellent and priced well for Valentine's day. Loved the desserts. My lemon crepe was simply prepared but perfect and my husband loved his chocolate truffle with crème fraiche -beautifully arranged 0n the plate.. The server was very attentive and answered any questions we had. She was attentive without being too close."

  • "It is wonderful that this establishment offers half-bottle wines on Monday nights. I have seen this offered at other places as well, but usually there are restrictions and the only ones half off are ones you would not want anyway (e.g., deca at Ritz Carlton) Here every bottle was included in the special, even reserve bottles! The food was wonderful. Five people dined and all enjoyed their meal. This is the second time here and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time."

  • "I would give 6 stars if I could. The authentic French selection was excellent. Sever was attentive, knowledgeable and sincere. It was an affordable dinner for two. What more can I say? We will definitely be back and bring friends next time. Every thing was delicious!"

  • "We had a group of 10. The way the table was set was amazing. It was a big square, instead of a long table. The big square allowed everyone to be involved in the conversations."

  • "Poor service considering the price. Waiter in kitchen most of the evening instead of in the dining room."

  • "We went here because there was no where else taking reservations before going to a movie on Saturday night. We both had the prix fixe meal with the specials. Everything was really tasty although my husband did not like his lentils and said they were a bit dry and maybe under cooked. We told the server we only had an hour and she made sure to bring things out very timely so that we didn't miss our movie. We will definitely go back, not regularly because it is pricey but sometime in the future. The wine list has a lot of unique wines and I notice they have a wine club, so that was interesting too."

  • "L'Eiffel is one of my very favorite restaurants. It's difficult to find authentic French food, especially good and reasonably priced, yet here it is, tucked into a corner of an upscale strip mall! The escargot are delicious, the entrees are well-constructed and tasty, and the desserts...ahhh. The chocolate mousse is better than most I've had in Paris, and the apple tart can sway even the biggest chocoholic every once in a while! Over all, I can't say enough good things about this gem!"

  • "Wonderful, made to order brunch specialties are what you'll find here! Start with a chocolate croissant - flakey, warm, you'll be tempted to get another one. Eggs Benedict, and Eggs Florentine are fantastic! Mimosas and Bloody Mary's are great , too."

  • "My mother and I had dinner at L'Eiffel Bistrot in the Arboretum of South Barrington on December 27. We had previously dined in August 2013, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal then. This was even better! The food was even better than I remember is from our August visit . Service was friendly, efficient and gracious. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us excellent recommendations. I highly recommend L'Eiffel Bistrot, and am glad to see such a fine restaurant in my hometown."

  • "This is usually a great spot for lunch or dinner and I would have given it all five stars except that my grilled swordfish, which was listed as a sprecial for the day so it should have been excellent, had a very fishy smell to it. It was still very good, but I think a restaurant of this calibre should be more careful. The bouche de Noel dessert was out of this world! The service is always very good here and the ambiance is always outstanding. It is always a treat to dine here."

  • "Had a lovely dinner here, but was pleasantly surprised that the high point would be the large and delicious oysters?! These were the best oysters that I have ever had!!! All else was very good, the oysters were the surprise!"

  • "The restaurant is very large with many different rooms to fit any taste. Aside from the size it is a very authentic looking french restaurant having spent much time in Paris, it felt like I was back there down to the manager Franc, who hails from there. They have an authentic absinthe bar that adds to the mood especially if you like to dance with the green fairy yourself. The service was prompt and the food was above average. I have had the crepes here before and they have been adequate. The dinner fare is better in my opinion but wouldn't wow a foodie. Then again you don't pay foodie prices. We have been here four times during several seasons and always had a great time."

  • "This is a great place to check out with a friend or spouse that allows you to have a nice dinner and easily able to talk with each other. It is tucked away in the South Barrington Arboreteum complex; easy parking as well. We have been coming here for several years, however, it seems that something has recently changed with the level of service. The past two visits we had poor service, in that, very slow, and not quite attentive. Both times the restaurant was NOT busy. There were several open tables. We didn't even get acknlowledged until we got up to find the hostess! Everyone was very polite, but I am not sure why their level of service has declined. The food is great so I will probably return and give them another shot."

  • "We took my mother to L'Eiffel Bistrot and Creperie for brunch to celebrate her 74th birthday. Despite the fact that some pretty strong thunder storms were brewing outside the window, the restaurant was cozy and comfortable. The service was great and the food was very enjoyable. I wish they had a gluten free menu, but I managed to find a good meal nevertheless. The rest of my family said they enjoyed the crepes. The bill was reasonable and we were allowed to linger and enjoy the company."

  • "PRICE:I didn't think it was as pricey as other people. Prices were fine. FOOD:We ordered the crepes and enjoyed them. They weren't 'knock your socks off' good, but they were tasty. WINE:I am picky on my wines, but was very surprised that i couldn't find one wine that was halfway good. SERVICE:Our waitress was fantastic. She truly tried to find me a wine I would like. I gave up before she did. :-) The service was a little slow as others have stated. This surprised me as the restuarant was pretty empty. If you want a nice leisurely, unrushed dinner, the service was perfect. If you are in a rush, don't go here. We were at the unrushed side and truly enjoyed the slowed down pace. We found our waitress when we needed her."
