The only thing I will complain about is that we were charged 24 dollars (8 people, 3 dollars each) for bringing in cupcakes for the party. I understand a small fee for bringing outside food in, but I thought this was a bit much. Besides the "cupcake charge" everything was great!"

  • "Top quality drinks and service (seriously world class). One vegetable on the plate had too much of a char flavor that overpowered the otherwise incredible food. The staff was amazing, courteous, skilled, and competent - making it better than ELEVEN. I came in to Pitt from DC for a weekend. This place was the best overall though Gaucho did surpass on the food. Drinks here were way better than Speakeasy and better than Olive or Twist."

  • "This was my second time visiting Legume for lunch. I'm a frequent visitor for dinner, but hadn't made it over for lunch since they started the service. If you haven't tried their lunch, you're missing out. First lunch was with a big group, and they were on top of it. Quick and friendly service, and great food. Overall, the menu is great - lots of options for both vegetarians and non. You also get a good amount of food for the price, without leaving overly stuffed. Try the cookies for dessert... amazing."

Two of us had the salmon which was perfectly cooked and two people had the chicken which was very good. I enjoyed a glass of their sparkling rose."

I used to leave Legume marveling about the wonderful combinations of favors and creativity of the kitchen. My last two meals were good, I enjoyed them, but really nothing special, and maybe not worth the price point. Several years ago Legume was my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh, today not as much. I hope they get back on track."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful and the service was very good! However, I will not return as the dining experience was a disappointment. I had the lamb - the "special of the day" which was so difficult to cut that the server returned the dish to the kitchen to have the meat removed from the bone. The starters appeared to be somewhat interesting but relied too heavily on cream, cheese and fat for flavor. I went with the expectation for a meal that was creative and packed with flavor and this one did not fit the bill. I mentioned this experience to a few friends and have learned that my experience is not unique. In general, I am not comfortable writing reviews but this was such an unpleasant dining experience that I felt the need to share."

  • "They are not kidding when they tell you the menu changes daily based on what fresh ingredients are available on that day. I can definitely appreciate how fresh my order was. I love how great attention was paid to every detail -- even the miniature pickles that came with my dish were succulent, perfectly cut, and delicious (i asked for another order of just the pickles). My boyfriend and I ordered the steak and lamb leg, and I must say that the red wine glaze was divine (made from the reduction of red wine and juices from the meat, not convenient filler like starch or flour, which I do not like) I'm very impressed by the food. It's comparable to some of the nicest restaurants I've been to in world-class cities like Chicago."

The staff was friendly and professional. The service was second to none. Now on to the meal. I have eaten at a few of Pittsburgh’s “fine” dining establishments and many more through the country. Legume is at the top of the list. The menu contained a wonderful balance of selections and the food was incredible. I would describe the price as moderate but worth every penny. Give this little diamond in the rough a try; you’ll be happy you did."

Imaginative menu, but not weirdly imaginative (like some restaurants where the "imaginative dishes" leave you scratching your head mumbling "what were they thinking?". Beautiful presentation. Very professional staff. We asked to split an entree and each portion was beautifully presented. Fantastic beef tenderloin and root vegetable salad. Wonderful roasted asparagus and creamed corn. Every item was a taste treat. Not the cheapest place around, but now I've decided I'd rather go here once than some more mundane places twice."

Restaurant was practically empty all night, yet they turned away walk in customers at 9:20pm due to their "strict policy" not to serve past 9pm. Could be missing out on a lot of business with that unfortunate policy. Food was good, but menu extremely limited. Not a good choice for those with dietary restrictions. May consider trying it again sometime, but not soon. Many others that are worth visiting first."

I had the scallops and was surprised to see as many as appeared on my plate (especially considering they were large!). My date had the beef tip ravioli. The ravioli were homemade and cooked perfectly. We also ordered the French fries. The taste was amazing. They were cooked in animal fat instead of the usual vegetable or fruit (is coconut or peanut a fruit?) We started with cocktails at the and the cocktails even had layers upon layers. Top shelf only. Bartender's choice was perfect. Each element (fruit, bitters, etc) were all fresh. Bar area was pretty busy (happy hour). Priced reasonable especially for the effort and elements"

The menu changes to embrace more of a steakhouse theme has been confusing and poorly executed. Food aside, I understand that the restaurant's ambiance is one that is quite cozy and comfortable but being seated between a party of 10 at a large corner table, refrigerators,and a wall was far too cozy."
