Diner Reviews
  • "My friend was visiting from the UK and wanted to try some good New England seafood. (Apparently, despite being an island nation, you can't get good seafood in the UK!) Legal Seafoods had been recommended to him by a friend, so we decided to get a small group together to go out. He really liked the options presented on LTK's menu, because they are a little different than the norm. It certainly did not diasappoint! From the starters (mussels and calamari) through the entrees (truffled lobster mac and cheese, crab cake combo plate, hoisin salmon, and steak tips for the friend with shellfish allergies) and ending with dessert (creme brulee, bananas foster, and bread pudding), everyone thoroughly enjoyed themself."

  • "No skimping on the portion size here. A friends mussels were nicely prepared, the red salad was a hit, and the Niman Ranch burger also came in with fine form. You can't go wrong with New England clam chowder, but it's a staple at all Legal's. The bread pudding was excellent. Our server was quite nice, and attentive. I never felt like he was just acting for a better tip, and we never had to ask for additional beverages. It was a tad noisy, but on a Saturday night of a convention weekend, that wasn't unexpected. I will definitely go there again, when I'm in the area!"

  • "We went to LTK for Fish and Chips...the food was fine but the portion of fish was very small. Our server was nice, friendly, fast, courteous. BUT, as we sat down (8:15 reservation) they started pumping the oddest mix of music so that we had to scream to talk across the table. It made it so unpleasant that we ate as quickly as we could and left."

  • "The food was excellent, the wine and beer list were great, and the location was great. The tvs showing the NFL network were a bit odd and the music was a bit too loud, but it was a pleasant place for a meal."

  • "We trekked out to northern avenue on a rainy night because we wanted some good healthily prepared seafood. The price is a bit high for raw oysters as compard to sitting at an oyster bar in Provincetown, but all the dishes we had we excellent. If there is a convention in town, you will find the waiting area hectic, but we were directed to a quieter area after ten minutes. I had mahi mahi on mashed celery root with fennel bits on top with a creamy sauce on the side. Delicious. My friends each got a sandwich. The drinks were also tasty and the coffee and desserts looked good, though I didn't have any."

  • "I was a bit fooled by the name of the restaurant. I thought because it was a "test kitchen" that it was going to be cool and fun and exciting. This restaurant is definitely fine, good food, fine atmosphere, but it's not necessarily special. The outdoor patio overlooks a busy industrial street and is on the sidewalk."

  • "Walked here for 2 dinners while staying at the Westin Boston Waterfront. Food was pretty tasty and reasonably priced although not the best food we've had. Hoisin salmon was good, but pad Thai wasn't. Greasy and too lime-y. Tuna burger and lobster mac cheese were very good. The apple goat cheese tortilla salad was also not very good, but the grilled calamari quinoa salad was delicious."

  • "food was good. Waitress was a bit pushy asking about dessert while one member of the party was still eating her entree"

  • "Food just ok and our server seemed to forget about us. I had to wave someone down to get more water."

  • "Had never been here before. The fish was really fresh and prices reasonable. We ended up here when we realized how expensive the Legal across the street was. Interesting choices. My only complaint was that the room was too dark to read the menu."

  • "Went to LTK with the idea that it would be a different type of experience than other legal seafood restaurants. The ambience was fine and there was a good selection of dishes over which, our server said, the chefs had "complete creative control". Sounds good. However, while the dish concepts were fine the lobster we ordered was overcooked, which we mentioned to our server - and received no response. How does a restaurant in Boston - at the seaport - overcook lobster and shrug it off? We have gone to Legal Seafood many times and this was, by far, our least favorite experience at one of their restaurants. Will think twice about going to Legal Seafood next time especaily if there are other choices and will avoid LTK."

  • "We have dined at LTK about 6-7 times now. I love the menu and the food is always great. The tables are close together and the bar is usually packed but is is a great place and you won't be dissapointed!"

  • "My friend and I sat at the bar for dinner. I was really impressed with how attentive the bartenders and barbacks were. There was never an empty water glass or a moment where we weren't being helped. We split a few things and the kitchen split them for us. Love that. Delicious grilled calamari salad. Definitely try the scallops. They're my favorite."

  • "For the hype it was fair. Sat at bar for lunch and the bar had way too many seats. Made it ridiculously crowded and no fun. Food was okay but nothing to write home about. Best thing was fried pickles ... So that was really a shame. Crab and pepperoni pizza was hot, and fine but nothing special. Crab meat sandwich was smothered with mayonnaise (menu never said it was crab salad - menu indicated crab meat on a hot buttered roll; well cold crab meat salad on a grilled hot dog bun was not what was expected and inedible for one in our party). Truffled lobster Mac and cheese gave us high expectations but really fell flat on flavor.. Should have easily had a wow factor and it did not. Two rounds of drinks placed it in the 130 dollar range."

  • "For a seafood restaurant the food was only fair. However, one of the diners had the mussels and she raved about them. The paella came in a metal pan and was burnt all around the edges. The clams were so tough, some were inedible. Not sure what kind of fish was in there, but it had an odd taste. Usually the chorizo is in chunks, however this was ground and overwhelmed the dish. The servers were pleasant but looked like they should have been at some late night "joint" . Really odd attire for afternoon lunch crowd. Not a professional atmosphere/attire at all."

  • "I was in town for vacation an im so glad that I found this place! There twist on seafood was simply amazing! Very creative and even better tasting! The atmosphere is exactly what I want from a busy city harbor you literally feel like your in a fancy dinning restaurant and it doesnt killbyour wallet! My waitress sat our party of 8 and made us feel like we were a party of 2! She was always there and had amazing suggestions that did not lead us astray!"

  • "This was my first time at the test kitchen, and I felt that it was an ok experience. The restuarant was extremely dark and it was hard to see the menus. I felt the atmosphere was nice to go someplace casual for seafood. My boyfriend got the fish and chips, and he thought the plate was good. I got the LTK paella, and I was not impressed. The description was that it would be fish and shellfish over a risotto, but I little risotto on the plate, and the plate was filled with every sea creature including octopus and squid. I was not overly impressed with this dish and would probably not get it again."

  • "I rarely write a negative review, but I was really disappointed. A few mistakes on the order, but it was the food that really did not meet the usual Legal Experience. I would skip this location and go across the street to the other two Legal's options. Nothing special here..."

  • "Legal Test Kitchen (LTK) Seaport is a gem. The menu options vary with each visit, however, the selections will satisfy every palate. The staff is very professional and make every guest feel important and at home. The waiter who took care of me and my guest was very personable and attenttive, but not overbearing. My overall experience was outstanding and I will continue to dine at LTK."

  • "The fish and chips was tasty and I recevied a generous portion of cod, french fries, and onion rings. The fish tacos were good, but not great. Coffee was strong, and bread pudding was amazing!"

  • "We went as a group for a late lunch expecting a great seafood dinner. I decided to try the lemon drop martini with pomegranate and it was out of this world! Our waiter was attentive and made great recommendations."

  • "All was great and when the waitress overheard that my brother and I would sample each of our respective entrees she brought a split plate of both the were the same size as an individual whole order. The tastes were very unique and very all was fresh and well prepared!"

  • "This restaurant was too dark to start with and then it got darker. The waitress who was great noted that other diners often used flashlights to see the menu. Who knew?"

  • "Went in for shared apps after Boston Wine Expo 2014. My party of two was seated immediately even though the dining room was full nearly to capacity. Appetizers were delicious: seafood pizza and puffy shrimp dumplings. Burger ordered medium rare was actually medium rare (as usual for LTK, but not at most other places). Sides are always prepared with care at LTK, too. LTK remains my favorite of the Legal's chain."

  • "Went for my son's birthday and was greeted with a "Happy Birthday"and shown to our table within five minutes. The waitress recommended their special that night and it was great! Both my husband and I enjoyed our meals and the kids were super happy with theirs. I asked for a "to-go" cup of coffee which they didn't have. The waitress went the extra step and made me one in a soup cup with a custom made "sippy" lid. Would highly recommend!!!"

  • "For a test kitchen the dishes we ordered let alone the menu were unimaginative. Someone should pay attention to maintenance. Our initial was so wobbly we needed to ask to be reseated. We had trouble seeing any value. The only positive was that the server was pleasant. As a frequent visitor to Legal Seafoods at a number of different locations, this variation did not approach our expectations!"

  • "Loved my meal that I created of Baked Cod with Cheddar Polenta and Greens and the pulled pork sliders were great as well. My boyfriend wasn't as excited about his Mussels appetizer (the wine and butter broth wasn't up to snuff apparently) and his fish tacos were "pretty good", hence the 4 stars. Atmosphere was interesting- felt more like a lounge with a huge bar but nice enough I think for a date night. Overall, I would head back and continue to order fish with that amazing polenta."

  • "I thought the food was very good. It's easy to go wrong with seafood, but it was excellent. The restaurant itself was loud and sometimes hard to hear your own party, but it was a fun atmosphere. Definitely someplace I would recommend."

  • "Solid food - great area - slightly different menu from Legal Seafood. The outdoor seating area was amazing, as it was about zero outside and the seating area was enclosed in what appeared to be "plastic" windows. We were as warm as could be."
