Diner Reviews
  • "I was very unimpressed we specifically went there because they prided themselves in a gluten free menu . Yes it was gluten free however absolutey no flavor at all very bland. My daughter couldn't wait to have fried clams it's one of her favorites and one food item she missed the most. She had a bite only one I then tried it myself . Yuck !!!!! Terribly sad especially for the cost of the meal.. We won't be back ... On a fabulous note my husband had the best Fried Oysters he has had in along time the were not gluten free"

  • "We reserved the private room in the back and it was perfect, even for a small group of 7. There is a nominal fee, but it was well worth it because my elderly parents are hard of hearing and a crowded restaurant is hard for them. There was just enough of a buffer to really make a difference. I would highly recommend this venue for parties etc."

  • "Food ok, service slow, over priced... Service was very slow. Food is over priced maybe because of location? Cole slaw and rolls are excellent. Location convenient to all areas. Not sure we will dine here again based on our overall experience. Thanks prefer other restaurants in area. Jb"

  • "WE ordered the: Crab dip. It came with shrimp chips (these crunchy things that Asian ppl know well) so that was a nice surprise. The dip was very good. I had the crab cake (1) lunch which came with a side salad and one side (I ordered mashed potatoes). The crab cake itself was great. It sat on top of a mustard sauce and normally I hate anything mustard related but it wasn't bad. I didn't eat the small salad because it was so plain and the mashed potatoes were average and a little dry. My two friends ordered the lobster and crab sandwich. They both loved their meals and didn't have anything negative to say about their food. Service was okay. Out drinks were filled but you could tell our server didn't want to be there. Price: expensive."

  • "The food at this Legal Seafood Restaurant is consistently very good and the ambiance decent but not outstanding. It seemed a bit crowded but that might have been due to where we were seated ("outside" in a corner)."

  • "The meal and the service were great. My lady friend especially liked the crab cakes and my swordfish was very good."

  • "Our food was fine. Service was inattentive. It took a number of tries to get cream for coffee. So much so, they had to bring fresh cups of coffee because we waited so long. By the way, the restaurant was practically empty!"

  • "The food I ordered was good and the wait time for it was very short. Their crab cakes were delicious and so was their bread. Their strawberry short pound cake dessert should become a permanent addition to their menu. Their seaweed salad was yummy. I had multiple servers who were very polite. However, there were some issues. My main server seemed to forget me. When I asked him for a straw before my meal came he said he would be right back and he did not come back until the end of my meal, still no straw. The glass my water was in was dirty."

  • ".... but the seafood I eat visiting this legal seafood was not at all up on par to true Legal Seafood quality. We spent $2250.00 and I felt like we didn't get our money's worth. I've gone to the Capital Grill and spent that on surf n'turf entrees and never leave feeling awkward and ripped-off. Besides the food, the style, quality and ambiance are equally uuninspiring. The waitress, on the other hand was kind, considerate and timely. Thank God."

  • "Met my brother for lunch. I thought my crab cake was sub-par. The crab cake tasted mushy too me and the salad greens looked wilted and seemed to have too much dressing. I have ordered the same dish at other Legal restaurants in the area and the overall flavor and appearance was much better in my opinion. My brother said his tuna burger was dry. I wold not o back to this location again."

  • "Good place to meet for business, best place is to sit inside. Outside patio noise echo's from the mall. Crab cakes are a must. Latte is one size but FREE refills"

  • "Generally, I love the Legal Seafoods chain. I am familiar with Legal Seafoods restaurants in Boston and NJ (Short Hills Mall). They are moderately upscale restaurants with diverse catering to fresh fish (vs those seeking lobster, shrimp or scallops). They have a nice wine list and do things right. The Tyson's Corner Legal Seafoods was a disaster. Seriously, I would describe it as an expensive Red Lobster. The crowd was mostly families with kids. They were the shorts and sneakers crowd. The menu was Godawful. No halibut, mahi mahi or snapper or any nice fish for that matter. The only fish was salmon (don't like). Oh and to be fair, you could get fried scrod. I hated this restaurant. You couldn't pay me to come back here again."

  • "I had not eaten here in several years but decided to come with my husband and 2 year old daughter because the kids menu had several options I thought she would like. But the service, food, and ambiance were not nearly as good as it had been in the past and I was pretty disappointed. The Cioppino was bland and boring and about the worst one I have ever had. my husbands food was only ok, and the calamari was nothing special. sadly we won't be back."

  • "I like to eat at Legal Seafood. This location however needs a lot of TLC. The bench seat was torn and the furnishings were generally worn. Not the expected for a quality resultant. A little more like a mom and pop with great food that bought there furniture second hand to try and keep costs down."

  • "Friday afternoon in Tyson's Corner, this was a perfect spot to meet a friend for lunch. We enjoyed the oysters as an appetizer. For the entree, my friend had the salmon and I had the crab cake with a side of kale. The food was superb and fresh. The staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was trendy. We will be back :-)"

  • "I'm a regular at Legal Seafood and have written reviews before. I just really want to add that the new pea cakes are wonderful, as are the asparagus and I am so happy to see so many new side dish choices. We had grown tired of the same ones, expressed this and coincidence or not, there they were on the menu within months. Scallops are very sweet right now by the way. Lovely dinner! Staff is always attentive and accomodating."

  • "Food, service, dining area, restrooms, service staff and host staff are all excellent. Very clean and nice decor. Food is amazing. I do not drink alcohol so I have no say in that. Calming and stress free environment."

  • "We used to go to the Legal at Montgmry Mall in Bethesda. They provided a special "appetizer" because we were O/T guests. Sorry to see it close At Tyson's we were seated in the bar area, which doesn't even feel like you are in the restaurant. After a couple of minutes, a waiter poked his head around the corner from the main seating area and said he would be with us shortly. A few minutes later a woman asks to take our order. My wife ordered the clam bake and when the server (different from the waitress) delivered the meal, he spilled water from the bottom of the plate all over my wife's pants. He never told the server. When my wife mentioned it, she got the manager who offered to pay the dry cleaning. Overall...not a great experience."

  • "I go to LS every time I'm in town for my fried clam fix. Saturday afternoon we arrived before our reservation but were able to get a booth outside in the mall where we always dine. Unfortunately, parents seated next to us let their toddler do ear splitting shrieks every other minute. We order clam appetizer and a bottle of wine and water. The clams came out before the wine , we had finished them before it arrived. Then had to ask three times for water. The service went down hill from there. The food was as good as always, but might have to think about whether it's worth a bad experience."

  • "We have been to Legal Sea Foods many times over the years and have never been disappointed. The lump crab cakes are especially good. The fried clams are delicious -- lightly breaded and succulent. The kids menu includes a whole steamed lobster at a reasonable price. The service has always been excellent."

  • "I expected more I guess but it was just fair. The crab cakes were the only thing were returning for and they were pretty good. Everything else could have been Red Lobster or Captain Ds. Just so-so."

  • "Excellent crab cakes and cream of crab soup! Also enjoyed a delicious appetizer. We are frequent visitors of this restaurant, and especially for special occasions. We do prefer the salad with apple, but that was not available. Would like that salad to be brought back. It really complements the meal so nicely. The service was good, and the food was served hot."

  • "Having been unable to make it to the downtown DC restaurant at which we had originally deserved due to some sort of catastrophe blocking the surrounding streets, we turned to a reliable favorite out in the suburbs. Nice that they have more half bottles of wine. Interesting edited wine list being supplemented with unusual selections of Spanish wines. All the items were ordered were good -- especially the soft-shelled crab appetizer special. Nice size servings of plump tender fried shrimp. Excellent service throughout from Michael. "

  • "the food was not good, my wife had rainbow trout, it was dry, my daughter had chicken, and she said it was worst than frozen food at home... i thought mine casserole was also not very good.... spend over $150 for four and could have done better going to other places for less and gotten better experience..."

  • "We had a comfortable, unpretentious, tasty and healthy dinner at a fair price. We asked for simply grilled seafood, dressings on the side, no butter for the vegetables and unlike far more expensive and supposedly chic restaurants that can't seem to keep track of those complicated requests, Legal got everything right, the portions were generous, service was timely but not rushed, our waitress was very pleasant. Not one negative note."

  • "Our dining experience was wonderful. I had the clam chowder and seafood casserole, and my boyfriend had the clam chowder and shrimp casserole. Everything was hot, the food was fresh and well prepared, and we even shared cheesecake for dessert. The waitress was quite attentive, and the manager made sure we were enjoying our experience several times. He also seated us in a quiet booth so we could enjoy each other's company :)."

  • "I have been a long time fan of Legal Sea Foods. This meal was a let down. We had the special, soft shell crabs. They were mushy and had an ammonia smell. The entre listed 2 crabs and at best we were served one and a half. Even though the postion was small, we couldn't finish it because it just didn't seem fresh. The service was slow. Drink refills were not offered or brought. We had to ask for them. My enthusiasm for Legal Sea Foods has dropped. Sorry."

  • "My husband and I went to Legal Seafood for our anniversary. It was the first time we have been there. The food was absolutely amazing; great service. That being said, the ambience at this restaurant is definitely not intimate. Our reservations were on a Saturday at 6. We went early thinking we could relax, have a drink, and then a leisurely dinner. Who knew that the entire restaurant would be filled with lots and lots of kids? The restaurant has 2 levels - the downstairs being the main dining area and the upstairs is the bar. We ended up sitting upstairs in the bar because it was quieter than the main dining area. I will go back again because the food is great, but this definitely not a place for an anniversary dinner."

  • "I had not been to this restaurant for several years and was pleasantly surprised that the food was still good and the atmosphere quiet enough to talk. I have special dietary needs and the menu was not great for that, but when I did find something that i could eat, I ordered it without the cheese and it came with another sauce on it. I had to send it back and get another order. That took some time and could have been avoided had the waiter asked me whether I could have that particular sauce or not. But they did give me another order and the downside of waiting was that I got a chance to spend more time talking with my table mate. So all turned out well in the end. "
