Let me start by saying that I eat a lot of fish, I fish salmon commercially and enjoy all seafood. The fish my wife and I were served was past it prime to say the least. One bite and we both could taste it and after that just by smelling it I could tell it was no longer anywhere close to fresh. Our service was great and the restaurant wonderful, but we were disappointed in the quality of fish in a restaurant with such a name.

The staff, including the hosting staff, were really professional and helpful. I hosted a surprise lunch and they were so accommodating with "hiding" us from the guest of honor. The Pru was doing awful, noisy, construction and LSF was wise to send out some delishious shrimp on the house as soon as we were seated. Nice touch

Normally, the service at this restaurant is very good, however, on this occasion that was not the case. Some selections never made it to the table and once our order was taken, it seemed our waiter disappeared. The food was good, the service not so much.

My husband, 3 teenage sons and I went on a Friday night. One son does not like seafood there wasn't a separate steak or simple chicken dish offering other than a very expensive filet mignon. I know that they are known for their seafood but even that wasn't so good. The Rhode Island calamari was chewy and not very tasty. My husband and I both ordered the schrod and it was the blandest fish I have had in a long time...my own has more flavor. Served with mushy butternut squash and jasmine rice didn't go over well with us. The rice had no flavor as it tasted like white rice from a Chinese restaurant and the squash would have been so much better roasted. Overall the food was unimpressive.

I eat here when I am in town - a couple times/year. This week the service was just not up to par. There were two conventions in the Hynes and that made things very busy but the wait staff was so busy they could not make it to the table to see if the food was okay after it was delivered. For a restaurant that must get a lot of money from convention goers it seems to me they would check the schedule and then add a few extra wait staff on the days when it is likely they will be extra busy.

We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, so we found room at the bar. The hostess gave us a buzzer to let us know when our table would be ready. At the bar, we enjoyed great drinks and service. One of our party had a gluten allergy. The manager came over to our table to ensure everything was to our satisfaction and brought us a GF popcorn shrimp appetizer. It was packed on a Saturday night, but not too noisy inside. It had a lively buzz to it and our food was truly outstanding. Our server, Haley, was attentive without hovering, offered great recommendations, and made it an enjoyable experience!

The server was great, but the wait in between the times she was at the table were way too long. Waited way too long for someone to even come to our table and greet us after being seated. Way too long for drinks. Not a full house, but busy. Great food, great ambiance and great company made all the waiting worth while.

Ordered the grilled fish thinking it would be low fat. It was slathered in butter. So was outside of underdone baked potato and tough asparagus. Husband's food was mediocre. Our friend and host had lobster that he described as subpar. Iced tea was weak. Our server was close to rude. Why do people go there? Why would we ever return?

Very disappointing for an out of town traveler who has been coming to Legal Sea Foods for 20 years or more. Of all the restaurants on Boyleston and Newbury Streets...I talked the family into going to this one. In return I got lousy slow service and luke warm clam chowder. They delivered the bottle of Chardonnay I ordered just cool instead of cold. When I asked for an ice bucket to chill the wine it took 10 minutes. True, the food is well priced and the oysters and lobster were very good. But looks like Legal Seafood has joined the ranks of Red Lobster.

  • The Sad Decline of Legals

We've been dining periodically at Legal Sea Foods since everyone sat at long picnic tables in their first location and this is the first time that I've been disappointed. The Cajun spice was undetectable on my fish. One chooses two sides from either the "no additional charge" or the "additional cost" column. Oddly, the "no additional charge" cole slaw had an additional charge and when it arrived it was in a tiny crockery bowl that was literally only slightly large than a thimble. Is ther some sort of cabbage crisis going on? The onion strings weren't in the light flakey batter that I remembered, but thickly coated with a heavy tempura batter - they were inedible. Oh well, all good things must come to an end. Bye-bye Legals.

  • It's in a mall...
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 9/11/2014
The first clue should have been that it was in a mall. The service was poor. Our server was nice, but not very attentive. The plating of the food was horrible. I ordered a surf and turf with 2 sides. It arrived on a huge plate with a 6oz filet and a small casserole of stuffed shrimp. The broccoli came on its own huge plate and my polenta was no where in sight. About 7 minutes later, it was delivered on yet another plate. It was very crowded on the little two-top table. Why 3 different plates when it would have fit on one and looked a lot better? They messed up on the order of the diner next to us. The couple next to us seemed to know many of the employees. One server came over and had a loud extended conversation w/them.

As I am reminded often at Legal Sea Foods, I always have excellent service but the food leaves me wondering why on earth I pay so much. The food is just ok and it always is. Cooking seafood at home is always a better option and there are less expensive places that have more flavor than Legal Sea Foods. It's sad. I feel like this chain has really dropped in food quality over the past 2-3 years.

Of the three places I planned on going the night I proposed to my girl friend (Top of the Hub, Legals, Oak Room), Legals was far away the most excited for us. We were welcomed with a congratulations, they radio'd to each other referring to us as the "engagement party," the general manager came out and personally congratulated us, and they gave us a complimentary chocolate dessert with "Congrats" written in fudge. On a night where my emotions were running high to make sure the night was a special as possible, Legals really went above and beyond to accommodate us. I will definitely remember that night forever.

I have been to Legal Seafoods many times over the years, but my last visit to the Legal Seafoods at Prudential Center was very disappointing. The food was not up to the usual caliber. The scallops were dry and the crabcake, usually my favorite anywhere, was overly flavored and overcooked as well. I could barely choke it down. I subsequently ate at Legal Test Kitchen at the airport and the food there (crab sandwich) was superb. In addition, it was very noisy and things just seemed chaotic at Prudential Center. It was not a very relaxing meal. I don't think I will visit the Legal Seafoods at Prudential Center again.
