Diner Reviews
  • "we were a little disappointed in the quality of our food. 2 of us ordered the out of shell lobsters and found them very dry. another one had some sort of shrimp casserole thing which she said was also very dry. our waitress was excellent and we enjoyed her very much."

  • "In town for vacation and my daughters birthday. It took 15 minutes before a waitress came after we were seated. Clam chowder was good, everything else was not. My daughter's lobster was rubber and a huge disappointment. Her dish had a huge hair in it as well. You will be better off going to a Red Lobster. Service didn't care and dispute knowing it was my daughters birthday did nothing to make it special. There are a thousand other restaurants in Boston that will be better. Despite their reputation, the restaurant was below average in so many ways."

  • "Legal is looted in Prudential Center and a great place for lunch if you're shopping or if you work in the area. Service is always quick and the staff are all friendly. Food is consistently good - the clam chowder is terrific. The warm rolls with butter are incredible."

  • "We went with friends from out of town who insisted on going there. Boring. I have lived in Boston since Legal started, when they were the "only game in town" for a good fish dinner. Now there are many other local restaurants that serve excellent fish in much more interesting preparations. I would choose one of them first."

  • "I brought members of a nonprofit board to the Prudential center Legal's for a business lunch knowing that it would be really good food that we could enjoy without breaking the budget, and it was an absolutely great choice. The food was excellent, service was enough but not too much, while there was energy in the room we had no trouble holding a business conversation. Highly recommended."

  • "Our reservation was for a 20th anniversary which was not mentioned by hostess when we checked in but was indicated in the reservation. The extra touch would have been nice."

  • "We were a party of 8 with a reservation. Service was dreadful. Waiter arrived and seated us & took drink orders. 35 minutes later we still had NO service and I had to seek out service. The rest of the evening continued the same- 2.5 hours for dinner & no appreciation for service quality. Table of 7 next to us arrived 30 minutes after us and was promptly served. We have had lunch there many times and never had an issue like this."

  • "LONG wait for drink order, then when one in party ordered a glass of wine (a rose listed on the menu), server brought a glass of red (cabernet). Informed server of this to which she responded, that is what you ordered. NO, rose was what was ordered. Similar name of winery, but when pointed out on the menu, server said," well we don't carry that- I don't even know why that is on the menu." What? Then WHY is it on the menu? She then said they only had the house rose, which was ordered. No apology, no, I'm sorry it was my mistake- blame it on the customer? Not the way to start our meal. Long wait for the food after this, again, no apology for having to wait, no offer to refill ANYONES drink. Service was not what we expected for a $200.+ meal."

  • "My wife and I were looking for a nice seafood place. Several years ago I had been to a Legal Seafood and it was a good experience. Now that I've been around a little longer and traveled more I find going to Legal Seafood for seafood is like going to the Olive Garden for Italian, blah. Nothing special and most definitely not worth the price. Reminds me of a Red Lobster these days too. No atmosphere, just getting people through. Probably will never return to the chain unless someone in my group is really wanting to go."

  • "Lobster bisque is delicious! Service was great. Not much ambiance, probably due to the mall location."

  • "Legal is considered 'touristy' but it is a very good and reliable seafood restaurant and I think they'd done a great job at keeping it fresh (no joke intended) and avoiding becoming a 'tired' ol tourist restaurant. Easy spot to go to and get in/out before a Red Sox game if you're looking for someting a bit nicer/healthier. Definitely a standard, 'go to' restaurant when you're trying to please many people."

  • "Legal Seafood is a place I always try to visit when in the Boston-area. The chowder is always predictably good and food prepared nicely and delicious."

  • "Had a reservation for 8 people on our first night on town. Flight delayed and we arrived 45 minutes late. The staff was accommodating and set us up right away. Lobster bisque was great, crab cakes delicious , garlic shrimp pasta and rainbow trout also very good. Boston Cream pie and salted Caramel pie made a perfect ending. Couldn't of had a better first dinner in Boston. Location was perfect as we were staying at the Sheraton. Would definitely recommend ."

  • "We've lived in Boston for over 30 years now and knew Legal's well before its expansion. Because there are so many great seafood places in the area, we hadn't returned to Legal's in awhile. We're unlikely to return. Service was reasonably helpful, food was terrible. Oversalted rice pilaf; browned lettuce leaves in the house salad; and--worst of all--overcooked fish! (This wasn't just slightly overcooked --- the grilled tuna was chewy, dense, and nearly inedible. I was surprised that the server didn't ask how I wanted to tuna prepared as well. Perhaps they steaks were already cooked? I've always thought of Legals as a place where one rely on getting excellent seafood, expertly prepared. Apparently, this is no longer the case."

  • "The restaurant was very accommodating as they let me move the reservation for 30mins later (we were a party of 8). We invited some out-of-town friends and they loved everything (including the classic clam "chowdah"). Our waitress was very nice but she was busy with other tables too.."

  • "All food in our party of 5 was very good. Stuffed lobster, crab cakes, red fish, and clam chowder was very very good.Highly recommend all. Waitress was very nice but not well trained. No shell crackers available for the lobster after requesting five times. Hard to eat lobster with no crackers. Hard but not impossible. Also no small forks available for lobster after numerous requests. Other small service issues with waitress. Manager seemed not very interested in the issues. Again food was great. Service not so much. I would definitely give them another try."

  • "Service was good until the restaurant got filled then it took forever to get our dessert and we thought we might miss our show. Food was excellent as always but hate the tables are practically on top of each other. Could hear our neighbors conversation better than that of some of the people in my group."

  • "I had the chance to eat out at the Prudential Mall location two nights in a row. Both times, the service was good. The waits were well-timed (i.e., not too long or short for the food), and the server checked with us regularly. The food was perfect except for a salmon dish that was a bit undercooked for my somewhat fussy father; however, a quick second run on the grill seemed to satisfy him. Overall, Legal is a place I seek out when visiting Boston if I am seeking solid dining with a reasonable cost."

  • "I took my family who was visiting from Japan here. The staff was friendly, gave us a round table for 5 people rather than squeezing a 5th chair on a 4 people table. While many American restaurants are very loud and need to scream at each other to have a conversation, this place was quiet and despite the size of the table, we were able to have a nice quiet dinner. The food was good (the freshly baked bread was a big plus) and the ambience was excellenet. "

  • "Boston is riddled with local seafood joints.. This isnt one of them.. This is a classy chain that supplies predictable, well prepared, fresh seafood at decent prices. Solo, Couples, Families... all work well, and service is good."

  • "We always enjoy a meal at Legal Sea Foods, but our waiter, Bryan L., made this dinner very special. Quiet and unassuming, he made us feel at home by sharing a joke and made great menu suggestions. He always seemed to be there when we needed him, but never was obtrusive. Next time we're go to the Legal at The Pru, we will definitely ask for him! So should you."

  • "Excellent seafood as usual. There are other Legal around. This one is in Prudential, a bit noizy but quite convenient. The Legal chain has the est places in town for oyster-addicts!"

  • "Legal Seafood has a great reputation which is richly deserved. I have been going there for years and it doesn't disappoint. My last visit was prompted by my desire to have soft shell crab, in season right now and not available at many other local places. The crabs were crispy and delicious, served with Legal's wonderful cole slaw and a cucumber salad. My dinner companion had the lobster salad roll which was served in a nicely toasted bun packed with generous sized pieces of lobster in the just the right amount of mayo'. What made the evening a stand-out, however, was the thoughtful and spot-on service by our waitperson who went all out to be sure we enjoyed every aspect of our meal."

  • "I made a reservation through OpenTable in the cab on the way to Legal Seafood after we left Fenway Park. The host honored the 7:15 reservation with grace though the place was packed. The wait staff was running on steroids but they know what they are doing and everyone was attentive and friendly. Our waiter was helpful in guiding us to a perfect meal. Grilled trout and asparagus, clam chowder and lobster on top of Caesar salad, a pile of fried clams and french fries. After-work business get-togethers and families all over the place. I don't know how they do it. "

  • "Loved everything but the curly hostess who took us to a table in a very dark area near the restrooms. We kindly asked to seat closed to the windows and she rudely said she didn't have any other table. I could easily see a few ope tables and she finally moved us there but you could see she was very annoyed!!! Avoid her and for the rest enjoy a great lobster roll!"

  • "I ate here while on a business trip. Had the crab cake, shrimp and scallops. The food was perfect and the service was outstanding. Don't know how I could give this place a better rating."

  • "Very disappointing. Received the bottle of wine we ordered AFTER our salad was delivered. They brought our dinner before we finished our salad, and BEFORE the wine (had to send it back to the kitchen)! When the bottle of wine finally showed up, the waiter hadn't brought the wine cooler or glasses. Salad was limp, soggy and obviously premade. Dinner was mediocre to say the least. The manager tried to make up for the inadequate experience by comping our meal. At least that put a smile on our face!"

  • "We had the wood grilled seafood and all the fish was delicious. The scallops were our favorite. We also shared a Caesar salad, which was ok, but not great."

  • "We hadn't been to a Legal Seafood in a few years and always enjoyed it, but not this time. The oysters were small, and we were brought 10, not the dozen we ordered, in a huge serving tray that could have housed 30 oysters, awful presentation with these ten little ones just scattered about. The server DID bring the 2 oysters that we were shorted...how that happened, I have no idea. Then came the meal. My haddock tasted like a piece of frozen fish that had been heated, tasteless and definitely not fresh. My husband's seafood casserole was a lot of filler, and very little seafood. Our friends dinners were "ok" they said, for a 300.00 dinner for four, we threw our money out. However, the drinks were good, I must say."
