A word from Legal Sea Foods - Park Square
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.

Legal Sea Foods’ flagship location in Boston’s Theater District is surrounded by hotels and nearby Newbury Street, Copley Square and Boston Common. Just inside you’ll see a two-story cascading fountain, the center-piece of the restaurant.

With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Diner Reviews
  • "Visiting Boston Legal Seafood is the well known brand for seafood restaurants, and we were not disappointed with their location near Boston Common. Great atmosphere, with Friendly and attentive staff, good menu selection with daily specials that all were in good price range. We enjoyed our meal in all respects, very nice wine selection and our waiter was very professional in offering recommendations. We'd recommend."

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Legal Seafood. While the food is generally very reliable and creative, we were most impressed with the service. What a treat. Nice gem in a crowded city scene."

  • "This was my first time going to Legal Sea Food and I must say I was impressed- especially since I am a vegetarian and don't eat seafood. The staff was willing to accommodate my needs by altering dishes so I could eat. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and the staff was extremely friendly. The Cesar salad was awesome but the rest of my meal I was not too crazy about but I know seafood lovers really enjoy the restaurant."

  • "Showed up on time for our reservation, were told our table was being cleaned up and we would be seated shortly. The table must have been really dirty, because fifteen minutes later we were still waiting. Since we had a show to catch that night, we left and found a better restaurant."

  • "We live in Rhode island and wanted to meet up with a friend who lives north of Boston. We choose Legal Sea Foods because it was a friday during lent. I have a gluten allergy and was impressed with the gluten free menu they offered. We started out at the bar for a drink with Josh tending bar. I ordered the gluten free onion rings, and haven't been able to order those in years. They were very good. At the table we started with popcorn shrimp (another item I haven't had in years). Both of us had the sea food casarole (mine GF, hers regular) with a bottle of wine. Lexi, our server was extremely personable and a very attentive. I would highly recommend Legal Sea Food, and we will more than likely return."

  • "Best crabcakes anywhere - I order them every time. Full of fresh crabmeat with very little filler, crunchy on outside packed with tender crab on inside. Spouse had the grilled salmon, which was a thick, perfectly cooked fillet. Love that they offer side of seaweed salad, usually only on menu at Japanese restaurants, but wonderful compliment with the fish. Berry tart for dessert was fine but not memorable. Service was excellent."

  • "Very close to the theater district and focused on getting us to the show on time."

  • "Great meal before going to the theater. Using the open table made it easy to get the reservation and had a table by a window very nice"

  • "We dined at the Legal in Park Sq for our anniversary. We had a window seat and Michelle's service was outstanding. The half bottles of wine allowed to try 2 different Chardonnays with our meal. Salads were fresh and crisp--tomato vinaigrette dressing was tangy and tasty. Our seafood entrees were delicious. Would recommend Legal for your pre-show dinner. You will not be disappointed."

  • "Legal Seafoods - Park Sq.is delight. We had a pre-theater dinner reservation and the table was waiting. The servers were pleasant, able to list all ingredients, to advise on how different dishes combine to make the meal, and smoothly make sure that every diner would easily be on time for the next event of evening. The wine list was ample, affordable, and excellent. We saw full tables for parties of 2 to 10, arranged with enough space in between to handle diners and staff quite gracefully. The atmosphere full of happy conversations but not noise. Everyone seemed to be having lots of fun. I look forward to another delightful evening!!!"

  • "Our dinners were very good - the food was delicious and well presented, and our waitperson was friendly and informative. Parking is available and reasonably priced after 5:00 PM. We will definitely return to this location."

  • "Given that this Legal Sea Foods advertises itself as having a great wine cellar, I found the choice of wines by the glass to be disappointing. The food was good however and the service was very good so the evening was a success. A good spot to meet someone who is staying at one of the hotels downtown."

  • "With Legal Seafoods, you can never go wrong. Good food, Good service, Great Atmosphere, overall very good restaurant experience."

  • "Let's see. The fish was overcooked for two of us. My swordfish was more on the verge of dried out, my wife's requested "medium" cooked salmon was crisp on the outside and nearly dry inside. Baked potato had been cooked in a microwave (soggy skin). My daughter liked her combo dish, and her boyfriend was mostly satisfied with his casserole. All in all, a mediocre meal in the Park Square location on a quiet Sunday evening. Restaurant was not busy. The service for my wife, who has a shellfish allergy, was careful and gracious. The rest was just ok. I long for the days when Legal was a great restaurant. It isn't anywhere near that now. This is our second mediocre meal here in the last few months. That's enough. Oh, and the restaurant was cold!"

  • "All went well for my sister and me after we attended the opera. The pace of serving was very good. Other Legal outlets serve quite fast; this was a better pace."

  • "This branch had the poorest food I have had at Legal Seafood--shrimp cocktail overcooked--salad was terrible"

  • "I went here twice in a week due for various family gatherings and friend birthdays. Both times the service was excellent. Very attentive. We received a free appetizer as a result of using Open Table, which was a nice surprise. I'd come here again."

  • "Legal Seafood is like me...it seems to get better with age. As usual the food was great and the service was even better than great. We go here before going to the Colonial Theater and ALWAYS have a great time. We never feel rushed and simply relax and enjoy. It add so much to our theater experience that I could not think of going anywhere else even though there are many other fine restaurants in the area."

  • "We were running late for a 7:30 show. The staff was great! We had a fine dinner which even included dessert and were out in 50 minutes. As usual, the food was what we have come to expect but the service was beyond expectation."

  • "After arriving at Back Bay station from NYC, we went to the restaurant after 9 pm. We ordered Clam Chowder, Fisherman’s Platter, Sautéed Mussels and Legal Lobsters(1.5-1.75 lb). Every seafood was so fresh and very good taste. We enjoyed all foods with Samuel Adams Draft Beer. The atmosphere in the restaurant and their hospitality were excellent as well."

  • "I have eaten at Legals in Park Square many times. The food is always good. Our waiter was attentive. Management came over and offered dessert for my friend whose birthday it was. I always go before the theater. We will be back"

  • "I came to this location for restaurant week. I've been to Legal Sea Foods a couple times before at other locations but I definitely like this one the most. The decor and ambience of the restaurant was very nice. The service was truly outstanding and it seemed like they gave their 110%. Our waiter, Alex, checked on us occasionally and food arrived in a timely manner. In the future I might end up coming to this location over the others!"

  • "We had 6:15p reservations becaue we was going to a show at 8pm. We were seatred right away and the order was taken within 10 minutes. one person ordered a salad that never came. @ 7:15pm we asked where our meals were and were told a few minutes later that they would be right out. They delivered our meals by 7:20p and then brought the salad. 2 of us ordered the crab cakes and they were luke warm. We did speak up and the took the salad and one of the meals off the bill but we had to rush through the meal. overall it was a bad experience and I will never go back there, especially given the price they charge for the meals."

  • "My family and I usually love Legal's but were disappointed in this trip. The waitress was very persistant and wouldn't let us just relax with our drinks before ordering. The manager did bring us a nice amuse bouche for reserving on open table which was a lovely touch. My shrimp and garlic pasta was dry and flavorless. My husband's haddock was very ordinary and the oysters were inconsistent in size and not as flavorful as they should have been for March. Won't return to this location"

  • "Brought some out of town friends for dinner...they wanted seafood...food was just OK, not great and felt overpriced for servings - a disappointment. Sides could use more veggie choices. Atmosphere is nice but bathrooms are down a spiral staircase which would be difficult for the elderly."

  • "My husband and I are frequent diners at Legal Seafood in Framingham and also of the theatre district restaurant. The food is always fresh, well prepared and reliable. The service is outstanding. Legal is always a perfect choice for dining out."

  • "One of our group was very happy that the restaurant had a Gluten-Free menu. The rest were very pleased with all of the food choices we had. Service was excellent and we were given complementary bruschetta for using Open Table to make the reservation. Will definitely be returning to Legal Sea Foods."

  • "Legal Sea Foods never disappoints. We have been fans of all locations for many many years dating back to the 'blackboard" days instead of a menu. The foods is always fresh (as advertised) and prepared the way fish should be prepared....never ever overdone ! I highly recommend Legal for whatever the ocasion. It can be for a casual dinner or suitable for a special ocassion dinner."

  • "I was really looking forward to an old standby. Recently was put on a very stringent diet as pre-diabetic. The sole with capers caught my eye. I told the waitress, no flour!, just pan seared with minimal EVOO. When it came - I was not sure. Not virgin sole. After a few forkfuls, I realized that it was very generously coated with cornmeal, completely overpowering the fish. I had a few forkfuls, and tried to scrape the fish off the coating, but had to leave it. I reported this to the waitress - Oh sorry - too bad. Well that was an expensive mistake on my part. Next time I will need to say - NO COATING. It sat on my stomach like a rock - keeping me up that night until the wee hours. I was going to return the night after and decided against it."

  • "I made a reservation for 10 people. When we arrived we waited over 20 minutes just to get drinks. Although I mentioned it to the manager and they responded, it soured my night. I just think for the prices that the staff, restaurant could be nicer, cleaner and more formal...."

  • "The waitstaff was very attentive. I even received a treat for making my reservation thru OpenTable. The lobster roll was good but had too much filler mixed in with the lobster for my taste. The clam chowder was very good. A nice place to have a seafood dinner."
