A word from Legal Sea Foods - Long Wharf
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. Enjoy ocean-side dining just steps from the New England Aquarium. Our restaurant couldn’t be more convenient to the Financial District, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and waterfront hotels. We think a visit to Boston must include a meal at Legal Sea Foods.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Loved that I could make a quick reservation through Open Table! It was so easy! Restaurant has always been a favorite for this out of town Mom and her 2 adult Bostonian children! Legal Sea Foods was very attentive to my food allergies.

On a trip to Boston, my husband and I decided (against our better judgment) to try this chain restaurant, based assurances that this one was "different." Our better judgment was accurate. The meal started well with nicely sized raw oysters. Downhill from there. I ordered wood-grilled tuna "sashimi" style, thinking it would come out like, well, sashimi. Unfortunately, it was covered in some sort of yucky sauce that interfered with the tuna. Kale was way too busy -- much yogurt sauce and whatever liquid was sitting at the bottom of the bowl. And it was not cut into bite-sized portions, so it was chewy. By husband ordered the Grey Sole, expecting the spinach and onions to be served on the side, not wrapped around the fish.

Disappointed -- took our of town guests there. Seafood was superb, as usual. But the sides were atrocious -- grilled asparagus (at extra cost) were the size of tree trunks -- and tough,. Jasmine rice was not as good as minute rice! Called manager to complain, and told him when choosing asparagus, the rule is to get the thinnest stalks. He had no idea, and said this is company wide practice -- to get the biggest! Somebody doesn't know what they're doing....or doesn't care.

Over multiple visits to Boston, we have eaten at Legal Sea Foods many restaurants. Previous memories were of high quality food, competent service. Our most recent visit to Legal Sea Foods-Long Wharf was nothing short of a waste of time and money. Our Server was either too interested in something else or just incapable of performing his job. He spent just enough time to get our order and then like Casper became a ghost. That might have be OK, except the food was served in rapid succession dinner being served even before our appetizers were finished. Our orders Salmon and Shrimp were warm, dry and tasteless. In all we were in/out in less than 40 minutes and the place was not crowded. I guess the local TV ad's are right, its just a chain.

This was by far the worst restaurant experience I have ever had (spanning over many decades including the very best and the not so best in the world). We had 4 visitors over from Europe (all ranging between 22 and 23 years old). When we ordered a nice bottle of wine to go with the dinner, the waitress told us they had to show the kids Belgian government issued ID cards were not enough, and that she needed to see the passport. Everyone who travels internationally knows that you NEVER take your passport with you while sightseeing. Anyhow, after talking to an arrogant manager (who claimed he could go to jail - not sure for what - serving alcohol to seniors and adults of legal age?), we decided to leave and never to return to this place.

While the staff were friendly, the service was very poor. Seems as if they took more reservations than the staff could manage. We had a part of 7 people and it took over two hours to get our dinners. When the food arived, five of seven meals were mildly warm / cold from sitting under a heat lamp. The manager apologized and offered to provide desert at no charge, but at that point the group was tired of being held at the restaraunt and didnt want to wait. No adjustments were made to the bill or offers for comping beverages instead.

This is the second Legal Seafoods restaurant we have visited and I had great expectations. The food was plentiful and delicious. I had crab cakes and my husband had the wood grilled fish trio. The crab cakes were full of crab with almost nothing else to ruin the flavor. My husband is picky about his fish and pouts when it's over cooked. It was rare the way he liked it and the chef's selection of fish (salmon, swordfish and tuna) was perfect for him. Pricey meal, but worth it if you want a great dining experience.

The manager came over to see how we were doing, but the food was very slow to come (an hour after we arrived) and our nice waitress was beleaguered. The table next to us had a birthday but the restaurant had run out of candles (for weeks!) so she couldn't present the cake and sing the normal way they do it. The food was good but not great, and this place is more about location--next to the Aquarium, with a very loud young bar scene on the wharf next door in the summer months. Not a quiet destination for a "special" meal. But they tried to make us happy, which I appreciated.

We were a party of six for a birthday occasion. Besides good service and great food, the staff was very tolerant/gracious despite the fact that 2 of our friends arrived over an hour late. They were able to get up their order super fast. The only issue was the noise. As the evening went on the noise level continued to rise so our table conversation included raising our voices also. I would definitely recommend this Legal and parking was very easy and validated.

The food was ok, the seafood was fresh, what made it a not so great experience was the server. Not sure if we just got the one server who acted like he had somewhere else he rather be, but he did the bare minimum and at times he just came across as plain lazy. We are not from the US and had identification as well as we look over 21 and the sever refused to serve us wine because we did not have our passports on hand and our driver's license did not suffice. There are much better places for seafood in Boston with great service... Go there instead

Our friends from Alaska brought salmon they caught at their fishing camp, but wanted to sample east coast seafood. We chose Legal's of course, and decided to try the Long Wharf location. Bustling at 6PM, excellent server handled all of our requests with ease. The basic fish entrees were excellent, the vegetarian box a little less so. The one real disappointment was the 'crispy' calamari appetizer. It was quite bland, and we looked in vain for the 'crispy-ness'. Other than that, it was a good time!

The food was as to be expected with a legal seafood; high quality and overpriced. Not sure when the aquarium moved the outdoor tank that was home to a seal and that was visible from the outdoor eating area. Watching the seal endlessly swim laps was a draw and one of the reasons we chose to eat at this location.

Three of us dined. My friend had the broiled lobster which she said was very good. Her husband and I had the Woodsman Grilled Assortment. Both our entrees were lukewarm at best. My plate seemed to have a pool of butter in it. Two of my scallops were over cooked. Not a good impression for my friends visiting Boston, and Legal Seafoods, for the first time.

I really love coming to Legal Seafood whenever we are in Boston. My son has a doctor here and it's one of his favorites. Lobster clams and oysters were great yet. And I am always so happy there are so many gluten free choices for him. I was disappointed as the fried gluten free items had changed. No more fried clams which honestly brought us here. As we can get steamed lobster and clams elsewhere. Fried calamari wasn't good. Service though excellent.

We sat in the outdoor seating after making an online reservation. We were only told once we got there that they didn't do reservations for the patio seating, but were able to find a table for us, which was nice. The whole hostess area was chaos. The service was average. I had the salmon, it was average. My husband had the fish and chips and it was good. We had a dozen oysters and those were probably the best part of the meal. Felt like it was a bit overpriced for being a fairly average meal.
