A word from Legal Sea Foods - Long Wharf
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. Enjoy ocean-side dining just steps from the New England Aquarium. Our restaurant couldn’t be more convenient to the Financial District, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and waterfront hotels. We think a visit to Boston must include a meal at Legal Sea Foods.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

  • "I had someone visiting from out of town and they really wanted Seafood. I expected I couldn't go wrong bringing them to Legal. Was very disappointed. Fish was very overcooked, very dry and poorly seasoned. We both got the 'chef's choice' of 3 on a cedar plank. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to send it back. Waiter never checked back to see if everything was cooked properly so we couldn't advise was poorly prepared."

  • "Everything we ordered was very well executed, from the calimari Rhode Island style to the crabcakes which are close to the best I've ever had anywhere. It's quite informal, with a lot of clientele coming right off the whale watch boats or right out of the new aquarium, both just yards away. Highly recommended, but make sure to get a reservation if you're heading there for dinner."

  • "Eaten here many, many times. As advertised, nice fresh seafood well prepared. Fish chowder is our favorite of any restaurant. This time, kitchen/service was very slow, especially for lunch, >90 minutes from seating to check paid for fish chowder fish. We like the seafood and they are allergy-friendly with managers double-checking when allergies are involved. Only (slight) complaint is the menu is pretty much the same as it's been for years... same limited selection of fish, same preparations, same sides. It's very good, but it's starting to get old."

  • "We waited 40 min for our food! Our waiter who just woke up kept forgetting our order. He disappeared right after we ordered appertizer for 15min. He shows up with our appertizer and remembered we haven't ordered our meal. Then, we waited 40 MINUTES for our food to arrive! The waiter kept avoiding our table. We would see him go to other tables, chatting with people but he never would come by our table. We had to ask another waiter to go check on our order and that's when someone brought us our food! It's ridiculous to wait that long for a meal. What's worse is that they hand out their "pledge" sheet where one of it is to serve food promptly."

  • "Took my boyfriend from New York here and he was thrilled. Being from New York people are not really use to great waiters and nice people all the time . Lol our waiter (forgot his name but he's bald and from manhattan) was the best!! He brought our spirits up because we hesitated coming out from the storm. He was so nice and made up forget about the storm!! He even knew every single dish on the menu and knew which one was the best for us!!"

  • "We have been to various Legal locations but this was our first visit to this location. Seated quickly but I immediately had my doubts when I saw the empty table for 10 near us - and then start to fill up. That wouldn't have been so bad but for the other table of 8 nearby. We could not have a conversation - no way to hear the person next to you. We were in and out in 75 minutes - that was the good news on this night."

  • "This was a favorite of ours, but because of the unbelievably poor service over the past year, we will not return."

  • "Read several reviews and decided on Legal for our Boston seafood dinner. It didn't disappoint. Great view of the harbor and the food was great. Crab cakes and Lobster bake didn't disappoint."

  • "Everyone in the family agreed that this was the best seafood we had ever eaten! We highly recommend the baked stuffed lobster and the seafood casserole."

  • "Katrina was our server. She was very attentive and I did not have a problem with her service. We ordered a lobster bake and the price listed on the menu was different than the price we were charged on our bill. We informed her about the pricing error and she went to the manager and took care of the price difference. Even though she confirmed the pricing using her handheld device, she went to the manager and didn't not wave us off. We are not the type of the people who try to get away with a free meal. If there's a difference, we would like to find out the reason."

  • "Food and service have been consistently good. Their Gazpacho is the best around!"

  • "It had been many, many years since I had last visited Legal Sea Foods. I had heard that the quality and service had declined as a result of the restaurant going 'corporate'. I found no evidence of any decline, the Lobster was prepared perfectly, and the service provided my Michael M was outstanding!"

  • "The food was wonderful! We had two different types of oysters and they were both great. The wood grilled salmon was delicious and everything was perfect. Only thing better than the food was the service. Ashley was our server and she was amazing! There was not one negative thing about her. She was very good at recommendations and was overall very friendly and happy to be there. I would recommend making a reservation. We made a reservation for a Wednesday night (during Fourth of July week) and thank goodness we did! The wait was an hour and a half but we were seated right away! Overall, wonderful experience! Thank you!"

  • "With so many good restaurants in the area why would you go here. The place isbloud, rushed, rude and mediocre. My waitress was a c you next Tuesday. Prices were OK but I would pay more for good food somewhere else"

  • "We made a reservation and were seated immediately the restraunt was very busy had to wait a bit for our waiter . The food was delicious except we received our lunch before our appetizer came . The waiter spoiled because he forgot to place it. Was disappointed!"

  • "My sister and I went with two teenage boys during our aquarium visit. The food was good although the service was a bit slow. The waitress was very nice and accommodating but it took a long time to get drinks from the bar and food to be served. The location across from the aquarium draws a lot of tourists and a few business folks and it was pretty loud and busy. Overall a good experience and the quality you expect from Legal but it is not a bargain and the service could have been a bit better and faster."

  • "It was the first time my two friends and I had ever been to the long wharf location and it was an overall good experience. The location is beautiful and there was a fun energy about the place. The food was ok. One of us got a sandwich with white lettuce and bottom of the bag onion strings. I got the jasmine special but ended up with brown rice instead of jasmine rice so it felt like the kitchen was just off. Our server was really sweet and apologetic about the long wait for food although it wasn't her fault so we loved her. She had her agm Doug swing by and boy did he charm us. We forgot we were even waiting for food! He was so FANTASTIC and really turned it around. We walked out happy and will be back. Especially if Doug is there."

  • "I had the wood fired haddock and I felt that it lacked flavor. Service was excellent though. I do wish they had the wine we ordered. We both had to settle for an alternate selection. My husband enjoyed his chopping!"

  • "My husband and I were really looking forward to going to LS for his birthday. However, this visit turned out to be a complete disappointment. I wasn't able to have the Sangria I wanted - all because I had my Green card, not the MA ID on me . I understand that this might be the company policy, however I would recommend to be less bureaucratic and formal, especially with people who are far from being underage. After this incident they sent us another waiter, who was nice, but forgot to ask me about the sides I wanted - and brought just whatever was left; and he never asked me how I want my steak - it turned out to be almost raw. Anyway, when I spent 140+ on a dinner for two, I definitely expect a far better service."

  • "The service, food and location are very good. The noise level was intolerable. I couldn't hear most of the conversation at my table."

  • "Arctic char was very good. So called Greek Salad (chopped) bore little resemblance to a true Greek Salad -- very bland, hardly any feta. This place is good if you like fairly boisterous chain restaurants. Location is great."

  • "Legal Seafood's Long Wharf is a never miss for your dining choice when staying at local waterfront hotels, spending a day at the NE Aquarium, or for any special occasion! The staff is phenomenal and the food is incredibly delicious!"

  • "The restaurant was very crowded and VERY noisy. We did have a very good waitress who was very helpful. The food was very mediocre and would not repeat this restaurant. Really felt like it's a tourist place. I'm sure if you want good seafood you can find a much better place where the locals go and have an all around better experience and better food."

  • "We were in town for a family vacation and picked Legal Sea Foods because of its reputation as the "best" seafood restaurant in Boston. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the quality of the food and felt that it fell far short of its billing as the "best" in town. The service was a bit rushed and uneven (drinks arrived after the entrees and we had to ask multiple times for bread to be brought to the table). Staff was friendly enough but we felt that the whole experience was not up to our expectations."

  • "On almost all of our 25 visits to Boston over the years, we always try to make it to one of the "Legal" restaurants. With their proliferation in the northeast and beyond, we don't always wait for a trip to Boston to indulge. We enjoyed our dinnerr at the Long Wharf location. I had their notoriously famous chowder, swordfish, with rice and slaw sides. Mil had the fish fry du jour (haddock) with French fries. The food was, as always, very good to excellent, and the service, provided by Rick was excellent."

  • "Our group of 8 (4 couples) were in Boston for three nights on vacation. We were searching for great seafood, fun location, and a decent price. We found it at this Legal location. We all ordered something different and it all was prepared perfectly. The seafood trio, seafood pie, crab cake combo all had wonderful sauces...light, tasty but not overwhelming the seafood. Good wine list for prices less than other restaurants. Top shelf cocktails were $8. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable and gave excellent suggestions. They even gave each couple their own checks...makes paying so much easier! We had cocktails, two shared appetizers, 3 bottles of wine and entrees (no dessert)each couples bill was around $142 with tip."

  • "I was looking forward to an old favorite and food was just average and presentation didn't add anything. The bonbons were good for dessert. I was disappointed."

  • "Restaurant was very busy. New summer staff - waiter told us they had 60 new people in the past two weeks in preparation for the high tourist season. Food was okay, but not as large of portions as before. Baked potato was not hot when delivered - butter would not even melt that was on it. Had the fried clams - good, but not a large portion. Cole slaw was messy - ran into other food items on the plate and not that cold. My husband had a ceaser salad with grilled salmon. Salad was over dressed and salty. Were only served two small rolls - not that I needed more, but seemed meager offering. Waiter was great - attentive, did not have to ask for refills. Hostess staff was not well organized."

  • "We enjoyed dinner at Legal Sea Foods and sat at the bar to eat. It was very busy outside and inside but in a positive way because the food is good and so is the service. I would recommend smart attire however if you're wearing nice jeans or shorts you'll still "fit in". We both ordered appetizers and entree salads that were great. I have a gluten allergy and they have some wonderful gluten free rolls and menu suggestions so just ask! We would definitely go back and recommend Legal Sea Foods."

  • "Traveled to Boston just for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Booked ahead through Open Table and it worked well. Ryan, our waiter was attentive and fun as we worked our way through the nite with multiple seafood appetizers. Being from the Midwest, it was a treat for us to be able to have so many of our favorites in one setting. Yes, it's a touristy spot, and we fit right in. The location and scenery were exactly what we were after."

  • "I would never eat here again. Went here with my husband and 2 kids. I had the filet and lobster. Filet was just average and lobster was not good at all. Not worth $45. Restaurant is kid friendly which is nice but none of us liked our meals. Waitress was really sweet, but I mentioned it was my anniversary when I made the reservation and she never mentioned it so what's the point of asking if you are celebrating something special. Very disappointed after spending $160. Waste of money."
