A word from Legal Sea Foods - Long Wharf
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. Enjoy ocean-side dining just steps from the New England Aquarium. Our restaurant couldn’t be more convenient to the Financial District, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and waterfront hotels. We think a visit to Boston must include a meal at Legal Sea Foods.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Diner Reviews
  • "It was remarkably average, food was ok, the sea food was cooked correctly, but was bland at best. I was expecting items with rich flavors and they fell willfully short of the mark. I can check this restaurant off my bucket list of Boston Restaurants and that is as good as it gets. "

  • "Reservations are a must due to the popularity of this locale; the wait can be a bit crazy due to the crowds. The service was excellent, with waitstaff on hand the entire time to check if we needed anything, even though the restaurant was mobbed. The food itself was amazing. I like steamers and eat them frequently; these were the best, sweetest steamers I have ever eaten, and they were served immediately, not sitting around under a heat lamp as sometimes has happened at other restaurants. The mixed grill was fantastic and a huge portion. My family also all enjoyed their dishes immensely. The manager was very visible and checked on us and the tables around us more than once. I highly recommend this Legals. It may be the best in the chain."

  • "Food was excellent as usual. Service great (server was a childhood friend of one of our daughters). We arrived on time for our resrvation only to be asked to wait 10 minutes. Then we were offered a table in the bar (or wait another 20 minutes for the ining room). I had a reservation! Bar very noisy due to Bruins game on TV. Manager did pick up on this and offerred us free appetizers for the run around we received. When things go wrong, good restaurants try to make it right. This was one of those restaurants. "

  • "Obviously NOT the location that received kudos. My lobster was chewy and certainly not close to "fresh". The baked potato was undercooked, but the roasted cauliflower was good. Excellent wine list. I would recommend the Boston cream "pie" which was uniquely served as a round torte. The service was spotty at best. I had to wait for the lobster utensils which meant the lobster had the chance to cool off too much. Would advise people to go elsewhere for seafood."

  • "Made a reservation; checked into front and they said we'd be next and then thirty minutes passed....finally went up to front desk and they had completely forgotten about us and said we weren't on the list; they did give us the next table then but that was a little to late to enjoy the experience."

  • "Driving in from NYC for a visit to BU, we thought, "Let's treat ourselves with dinner at Legal Seafood!" We made 7:15pm reservations on Open Table from the car (easy!). Traffic was awful on the way PLUS we made a last-minute wrong turn which forced us over the Tobin Bridge. In a panic, we called the restaurant, and were given a later reservation (phew!). When we arrived at Legal, after parking at the public garage nearby, we were PAMPERED by our server, Jesse. He was so personable and accommodating, sympathizing with us about our trip, and suggesting the most delicious choices. We were SO happy!!! AND on the way out, the hostess validated our parking ticket...a perfect meal!"

  • "Good thing we had reservation and were seated promptly. It was Spring vacation, and the place was filled with families. Having eight grandchildren made it easier to understand the very energetic noise level."

  • "My wife and I both chose fried seafood. She had the scallops, I had the fisherman's platter. Both were soggy, especially the scallops. The scallops were nice and big, could have been great if they had been cooked better."

  • "We were in Boston on spring break and my teenage daughter had never been to Legal Sea Foods but had heard about it. She was looking forward to the New England Clam Chowda and was not disappointed. Although it was very busy on that evening, the service was professional and prompt. We did not have to wait on appetizers or entrees. the food was EXCELLENT! Would recommend the LSF location next to the Boston Marriott Long Wharf as a TOP NOTCH location."

  • "Even though we live in Texas, my birthday wish was to go to Boston and eat Lobster. My son came through beautifully! We flew in, checked into our hotel, went to eat Lobster at Legal Sea Foods, went back to the hotel, got up early the next morning, and flew back to Houston. The food was wonderful, and my son is a GEM! And they didn't come around and show us how bad their signing was or make me climb on the table or anything; they just put a nice little candle on my dessert. Very nice."

  • "The seafood was very good. My wife loves Legal Sea Foods for the gluten free options. Legal Sea Foods served gluten free bread, and replaced wheat items with gluten free items such as croutons in the salad. Theses are items she usually has to forgo at typical restaurants. They were very attentive about her allergy and showed more care than most in accommodating her needs. The restaurant was crowded and on the loud side for casual conversation, but not unexpected for a Friday night."

  • "This was the usual good Legal food and pleasant server, but way, way too noisy! It was just too much din for conversation so I would avoid this location in the future."

  • "We had a great casual business meeting as well as a great dinner. We have went to Legal at Harborside in the past and it was way to loud to even talk. Long Wharf was perfect. Thank you Legal"

  • "This restaurant simply is the finest seafood establishment I have had the opportunity to eat at. Coming from a person who has visited over two dozen countries, trust me, this is my most stellar compliment. Keep doing what you are doing because you have the perfect blend of great food, ambiance, wine, staff, and price. Legal Seafood will be a regular stop when I travel through Boston from now on. Kudos!!"

  • "I had never been to a Legal Seafoods until this past weekend. My husband and I brought my mom who was in town for the weekend. She wanted some seafood, and we'd been talking about trying Legal Seafoods for quite a while. We were seated about 15 minutes after our reservation, which was fine with us - it was quite a busy night. The manager offered us 3 comp'd desserts as an apology for us having to wait. We gladly accepted, and found it was a very nice and completely unexpected gesture. Our waiter recommended some great dishes, and was very helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family, and of course will be returning myself."

  • "My girlfriend and I came here for our 2 year anniversary and it was a delightful experience! We showed up a little early before our reservation and they still seated us. I requested champagne for the meal and they had a wonderful selection. The food was fresh, perfectly cooked and full of flavor - slightly over priced but worth it. The waitstaff was fun, talkative and knowledgable. I will definitely be returning again the future!"

  • "I have to eat at Legal everytime I come to Boston - often times more than once when I am in town (twice this trip!). My Boston favorite for Seafood!"

  • "The food was great. The being said, unfortunately the main course came out just minutes after we got out appetizer so there was limited time to enjoy our chowder and dinner while it was hot. Also, they say they give you validated parking at a garage, don't be fooled by the ONE DOLLAR discount off $36 parking!"

  • "Nice place. Lobby is really too crowded and awkward at busy times. Wait staff was great after we got checked in. Not sure why you have to check in with one person and then repeat everything to the other person at the stand. I kind of felt like I was talking to Sigourney Weaver in Galaxy Quest when everything I said was repeated to a second person that could hear me just as well as the first."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at our favorite seafood restaurant, Legal Seafood. We were at the Long Wharf restaurant. Still a bit chilly to eat outside, we enjoyed a booth inside. Our servers were excellent, attentive and knowledgable from wine choices, entrees to desserts (complimentary for our celebration.) Dietary swaps were no problem. One special for the eve was Lobster Bake with lots of food on the huge plate. Cup of chowder first, then steamers, mussels, corn, sausage and huge steamed lobster. My husband had a haddock dish, prepared to perfection. Fudgey chocolate layer cake was over-the-top delicious. Our wine choice complimented our meal and came in a half bottle. Friday eve busy, great service."

  • "I really appreciate having a wide variety of meal options at a restaurant, and Legal Seafood is definitely one of the best in this regard. And, it's not just gluten free, it's gluten free and good. Service can be a little slow sometimes, and it gets pretty crowded and loud, but the food is totally worth it."

  • "This Legal Sea Food is located in a great spot, near the bay and close to Quincy Market and many other Boston gems. The staff is very helpful in explaining everything from company history to wine and food recommendations. Legal has a reputation that preceeds them and they meet expectations. Make this a must visit when in Boston."

  • "Every year our team exhibits at the Boston Seafood Show and we look forward to a team dinner at Legal Seafoods, Long Wharf. This year we had 8 for the dinner including representatives from our Canadian division, the NE Sales Region and Technical Specialists from Texas, Georgia and Pennsylvania and only 3 had dined at Legal Seafoods previously. The food was supurb, the service attentive but unobtrusive and everyone raved. It was, in fact, so good that 3 of our 8 went back the next night. The Char made quite a hit and was perfectly done. The crab cakes also earned repeat business and the lobster bisque is some of the best you can find."

  • "Legal Long Wharf is my go-to restaurant when looking to have a nice meal with friends in the city. The location is convenient, and the ambiance is energetic. The service is warm and friendly, and the food--and in particular the specials--are always consistently delicious (any trip to Legal is incomplete without a cup of lobster bisque)."

  • "Made our way through the crowded lobby to front desk and was disappointed at the level of service from both hostesses. I understand it was extremely busy but being ignored while standing right in front of them and having them continue to take phone calls was a bit off putting to say the least. Nonetheless, we were seated promptly thanks to our reservations. Another great dining experience as our server was great. Oysters, Baked stuffed lobster, wine and desserts all made their way to our table promptly and with a smile."

  • "It was my first visit to a Legal Seafood restaurant after seeing it featured on Nerve Centre. My experience was just as I imagined it it: Quality staff and quality food. A great experience, worth repeating"

  • "Legal is consistently good tasting. Not inexpensive, but the impression is that they are interested in providing a quality meal. The waiter was excellent, and provided all the information we needed. He was not overly intrusive, and definitely added to the experience. We were not rushed. I would be interested in more on tap beer selections, and would have especially enjoyed a CBC IPA, though Harpoon is a reasonable alternative. I'm also interested in supporting sustainable foods, and eating in a healthy way, so efforts in those regards are always appreciated. Thanks!"
