A word from Legal Sea Foods - Copley Place
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
We know shopping induces hunger. Our restaurant is located on the upper level of Copley Place, with direct indoor access to both the Westin and Marriott hotels as well as to the Prudential Center. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Boston’s historic South End.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

We are used to the Chestnut Hill Legal Sea Foods. This was a big disappointment and we have been to Copley Place before and enjoyed it. Copley Place needs some lessons!

We were very excited to try this place everyone was raving about. We got seated promptly at lunchtime but then it took a while for the server to approach us. She was unfriendly and short with us. On to the food...it was good. I would not say great but it definitely was good. The clam chowder was probably the best thing we had ordered. I will say the crab cake was full of crab meat and not some second rate stuffing or filler...Overall it was a good experience, but I won't be rushing back there!

Great place for a business lunch. Tables are far enough apart to provide privacy and the noise level is low enough for easy conversation. Also great place to take anyone with dietary restrictions. The kitchen seems to accommodate anything while providing the rest of diners great meals too.

There is a reason this restaurant continues to win awards. My GF loves cherrystones, and LSF has the freshest on the American continent. The crabcakes are the best (rivaling even those found in Maryland) and the service is always excellent.

The food was solid as always (but not particularly inventive) but service was ridiculously slow. We sat for over 30 minutes after our appetizers were cleared and eventually the manager, who observed us sitting there without our entrees, came over and stated that he would bring the food out for us. Even that took some time. This place is not recommended if you have plans after dinner, since dinner will take much longer than you thought.

I now understand why the locals call Legal Seafood, the Seafood McDonalds. The fish was slightly above room temperature, the vegetables and rice not much better. The luke warm chowder should have been a tip off. Off the bucket list!

We were told this is a great seafood restaurant in Boston. I dare say I hope they can do better in Boston. This L.S. was as plain as plain can be. Absolutely no atmosphere. It was brightly lit which is okay at lunch but not okay at dinner. Lighting creates mood and ambiance. I felt their menu was also blah. Nothing innovative about it. I don't recall seeing any sauces listed on it either which I feel separates the boys from the men. Otherwise, the haddock fish I ordered had a breadcrumb coating and was moist and fresh. The sides were simple - steamed broccoli and a baked potato. I did like the food it just wasn't anything "special".

It was pretty good. The appetizers were by far the best of the meal. The shrimp wontons were delicious. The calamari with peppers was a great combination of flavors, and I enjoyed it very much. Both dishes were visually appealing as well. The exterior of the crab cake was gorgeous, and the crab was lovely, but it was rather tasteless and once you got to the center, the breading was gluey. The sockeye salmon was fine. No complaints, but not what I expect from Legal Seafood.

We have eaten at Legal Seafood several times - not this location. The restaurant smelled very strongly of raw seafood. Our waiter served drinks and our appetizer in a timely manner, but then it went downhill. They were out of several menu items we ordered, so those had to be re selected and it took forever to get our food. Manager did comp our food which was good when we finally got it. Disappointing birthday celebration dinner. Not our usual LS experience.

Freshest seafood, perfectly cooked. Delicious raw oysters, the crabbiest crab cakes (hardly any filler whatsoever), lots of high quality menu items for kids, and a fantastic wine list that offers wines by the glass that you just don't get elsewhere. Wines you ordinarily would have to order by the bottle for high prices. This is our must-dine restaurant in Boston.

My crabcakes were good, but a colleagues fish & chips were not. Another ordered baked potato - and they informed us they were out of BPs. Seemed strange for a chain. An alright experience, I probably would not go back though. I prefer local restaurants though, not chains.

Unfortunately, we chose this for our wedding meal with friends who had all traveled to Boston from Florida. The lobster was tough and tasteless...we believe it was probably frozen. What a disappointment....thought I was at Red Lobster. Had to send oysters back because they were cold and the second time they were just warm. Other meals were mediocre...presentation was poor. Chowder was good.

My husband and I went here while on vacation thinking it would be a good spot for some good seafood after a long day of walking. Legal is known for clam chowder. Although it isn't bad we had better chowder at a local dive bar in Italian village. The food was expensive for what we had, which is fine had it been really good and unique. I will only be returning to Legal Seafood if it is on someone else's tab.

Seek other choices for fine sea food in the Boston area. The experience started with a drink mistake to one of my guests and continued when the requested bread was brought out after dinner. Overall the food was fair ,but not as good as we expected. Stick with Lobster rather than shrimp dishes.

We had to wait to be seated, even with reservations. They had 1/2 of the restaurant seating closed. We had to wait a really long time for our appetizers which were a crab cake & shrimp cocktail. Our waitress seemed embarrassed. I ordered the whole lobster & filet. The lobster had zero flavor and was cooked to the point of rubber. I should have sent it back. My steak was a good cut & cooked correctly, but was cold. I ate it because by now I was really hungry. My husband ordered the fried seafood platter. It was thrown together and not very good. With so many great places to eat in Boston, they really should try harder. Our meal was an expensive, disappointing, waste of our evening & our money. Our server was the only good part of the night.

Dined at the Legals in Copley Place...I'm a regular at Legals and Gluten Free so I appreciate the separate menu and care they take in providing safe GF food. In the past I have tried the Baked Stuff Lobster and it was dry and no where near as good as the regular version - however, Legals has improved it significantly. They've changed from using GF crackers to something more akin to bread stuffing and it is moist and delicious. I was delighted that I tried it again. Beyond that, they've introduced new GF rolls (one of the few restaurants to offer this) that are extremely good. All in all it is a pleasure to dine there as a GF patron. Highly recommend.
