A word from Legal Sea Foods - Copley Place
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
We know shopping induces hunger. Our restaurant is located on the upper level of Copley Place, with direct indoor access to both the Westin and Marriott hotels as well as to the Prudential Center. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Boston’s historic South End.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

  • "Like Legal at this location better than others. Had chowder, salad, grilled Arctic char, bonbons and coffee. Wife had same except haddock. Good service. Request a table by the window and enjoy yourself."

  • "I ate at Legal Sea Foods when I was in grad school 30 years ago and it was great then and it is great now. Food was prepared and presented "just so". The server was helpful and attentive."

  • "I expected more from Legal Seafoods. Granted, this was in a mall, but the amibience could have been better. The menu was uninspiring and the food was just average. Our waitress was good, but the hostess had an unpleasant habit of rolling her eyes at us when she walked by."

  • "Seek other choices for fine sea food in the Boston area. The experience started with a drink mistake to one of my guests and continued when the requested bread was brought out after dinner. Overall the food was fair ,but not as good as we expected. Stick with Lobster rather than shrimp dishes."

  • "We had to wait to be seated, even with reservations. They had 1/2 of the restaurant seating closed. We had to wait a really long time for our appetizers which were a crab cake & shrimp cocktail. Our waitress seemed embarrassed. I ordered the whole lobster & filet. The lobster had zero flavor and was cooked to the point of rubber. I should have sent it back. My steak was a good cut & cooked correctly, but was cold. I ate it because by now I was really hungry. My husband ordered the fried seafood platter. It was thrown together and not very good. With so many great places to eat in Boston, they really should try harder. Our meal was an expensive, disappointing, waste of our evening & our money. Our server was the only good part of the night."

  • "My sister and I took my mom out for her birthday because she loves lobster. Our server Tyler was attentive and personable. The Chef personally delivered our food and it was amazing! My mom said it was the best seafood she has ever had and we all enjoyed every bite. Compliments to the Chef and his staff! We will definitely be celebrating many more birthdays to come at LSF!"

  • "I love this Legal - wonderful views of the South End - I never think of it other than as a stand alone restaurant - something Legal does very well."

  • "Our meals were very good. Soft Belly clams and fish casserole were high quality and excellent taste. We sat by glass windows with an excellent view to the east which I would recommend for dinner dining."

  • "Service was awful. Waitress could not get it right. Main courses arrived while we were still having appetizers. Food was cold"

  • "Dined at the Legals in Copley Place...I'm a regular at Legals and Gluten Free so I appreciate the separate menu and care they take in providing safe GF food. In the past I have tried the Baked Stuff Lobster and it was dry and no where near as good as the regular version - however, Legals has improved it significantly. They've changed from using GF crackers to something more akin to bread stuffing and it is moist and delicious. I was delighted that I tried it again. Beyond that, they've introduced new GF rolls (one of the few restaurants to offer this) that are extremely good. All in all it is a pleasure to dine there as a GF patron. Highly recommend."

  • "Was visiting boston and legal seafood got good reviews. We made reservation online. We were seated in corner, had view of wall near front of restaurant. Food was good but I think we had worst table in house. Others were seated by window with great views. "Nobody puts baby in corner". Well maybe legal seafood does. Make sure to ask for window seat."

  • "We had a fabulous meal, window seating, the service was perfect and the food was delicious. My friend who was visiting from TN wanted good seafood and Legal delivered."

  • "Love legal, since the food and service are reliably good. I tried an experiment this night, ordering the striped bass special, and it was a mistake, a curious admixture of flavors (nuts and yogurt?) that simply didn't work. Served with a recommended syrah, nothing of this dish was anything but curious = but it is fun to try something new there. The chef needs to drop this preparation from his/her list."

  • "It was my first time in Boston. I wanted to have some superb clam chowder, that's it. I believe the clam chowder was not quite up to my expectations. I wanted it to taste better. Ambience, service, views, were amazing. The Boston creme pie will definitely make me return!!! That saved the entire experience. I left on a very positive note!"

  • "The fisherman platter was amazing as was the clam chowder. The lobster was 4/5 which was Dixie to price. Service was perfect for the type of restaurant would definitely return, love it."

  • "I was wary of chain seafood restaurants (alba red lobster) but was pleasantly surprised with our meal. The haddock and crab cakes were fresh and done to perfection. Definitely will return. Service was efficient and pleasant. Price was not unreasonable."

  • "There were 4 of us. We had steamers, fried calamari and chowder as starters. Then two orders of large lobsters, two fish orders, sides, three deserts, multiple drinks, coffee and tea. We were hungry :) The server Jim P. got all the orders correct and was very attentive. The food is good at the Legal at this location. Jim made the meal even more enjoyable."

  • "Legal Seafood is always a worthwhile option for anyone seeking good food."

  • "Tired and dated interior; cooking was uninspired. Our tuna sashimi was overwhelmed by the sauce and spices - there was clearly no delicate hand at work. There were 2 exceptions - wonderful selection of delicious raw oysters and our waiter."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "My husband wanted to go to the Italian area but I chose Legal Seafood because of their reputation for great seafood and being a local Boston favorite. The atmosphere was casual but a bit sterile (no warmth, fun, etc) and the prices were pricey for the atmosphere so I expected the food to be great. We ordered crab cake appetizers and lobster for dinner. The crab cakes were meaty and the mustard sauce was very good so I was cited for dinner. The lobster, however, was rubbery and a real disappointment. I told the waitress it was not great and she smiled and did nothing......I'm sure there are a million better places to get good lobster in Boston and I clearly chose wrong."

  • "Great place for newbies to try Boston's signature dishes in 1 place. Convenient locations for tourists. A bit pricey but the seafood was fresh and high quality. Service was outstanding. Waitstaff and hostess went out of their way to make us feel special. We had our moody 20 year old daughter with us and this place made her very happy. That was a tall order. Copley Place location quieter than Boylston location. Copley more for families and older people who are not into the bar scene. Would definitely recommend to my friends and family members who visit Boston."

  • "Friend of mine came from Cleveland, Ohio and invite them to Legal Seafood at Copley Place for dinner. I had "Fishman's Platter" and it came out overly cooked and oily. Especially, shrimp, scallop (2 pieces each) and fish (very small tale part of the fish) were very small size and portion filled for fried potatoes. However, the wine was excellent choice. The service needs more attention also."

  • "Food was alright - portions were enormous for everything. We had the Sriracha Popcorn Shrimp which was delicious and Rhode Island Style Calamari with hot peppers which was a really interesting flavour combination that I loved. I had the Sampler with tuna, salmon, swordfish, shrimp, scallops, brown rice and mashed potatoes - everything was okay if not a little bit bland. The scallops were a bit rubbery. My SO had the Crab Stuffed Shrimp Casserole and it was only okay - there were tons of crunchy (aka undercooked) onions and an overwhelming flavour of breadcrumbs. Overall service was pretty good. I would definitely return as I've had much better meals there and it is very reasonably priced for good quality seafood."

  • ""Legal Sea Food" has restaurants in multiple locations. We found the Copley Place restaurant to be quiet and comfortable with a great view of Boston's South End. The food was excellent and served in a timely manner. It was a special birthday celebration and they handled it all with style and ease."

  • "Sometimes you just need a spot away from the tourist, offering a quiet spot to dine. This Legal's offers such a deal, as it is slightly off the crowded paths of Back Bay. The food is fresh, service is good, and the wine list broad and interesting. And, this time of year, yummy soft shell crabs, what a treat!"

  • "We came in to celebrate my father's 50th birthday . Everyone from the host stand to our server were very welcoming . Jessica (our server) was very accommodating to our needs. She didn't rush us or come around too much to bother us. She was very friendly and overall one of the best servers I've had. Legals also impressed me when the manager Courtney took time to come to our table to wish my dad a happy birthday. She also brought of my little sisters food, who is allergic to all nuts. It was very nice to see that they cared enough to make sure we knew that precautions were taken when handling my sisters allergy. We will definitely be back for more! It was an awesome experience !"
