A word from Legal Sea Foods - Copley Place
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
We know shopping induces hunger. Our restaurant is located on the upper level of Copley Place, with direct indoor access to both the Westin and Marriott hotels as well as to the Prudential Center. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Boston’s historic South End.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Went here for a quick lunch. Has a reservation at 11:00, but I was only seated at 11:15, which was strange because all the servers were in place but the guy who was 'in charge' couldn't bring me to my table. Apparently the hostess had not arrived, which apparently means he couldn't leave his place to walk me 30 feet to my table.. Really??? It would have taken him 1 minute. But he couldn't. When I go to my table , with the hostess, everything else was good. The onion rings were amazing. Haddock was good. Dessert. Was great

  • Why I was disappointed with Legals
    Disappointed
    Dined on 11/18/2014
I have been a visitor to Boston on numerous occasions since 1978 when I first ate at Legals and found it an excellent seafood restaurant. It continued to be good for a time despite becoming a chain of restaurants. On this occasion it was not. The crab cakes and the famous chowder were mediocre---cold, too much filling, less crab and fish. The fries were tasteless and cold. Cold food seems to have become a norm. I had made the reservation with friends asserting that they would enjoy the food; I do not think they did.

Overall experience was ok. There seemed to be some confusion re our reservation between locations?? Staff was glad to accommodate our early arrival as they were expecting a large rush due to convention in town. Server was nice enough, a little impatient when having to review sides, "they are listed on the menu", and needed to be reminded about two drink orders, actually needed to call her over to inquire about the drinks. The toughest part was the lack of appreciation of a nice tip, (more than 20%, $85.00 tip), not even a thanks for coming in ....

The Copley location is a favorite spot to take my lady. It's become one of our date night spots. We love seafood, and the specials are always top notch. I had a tuna with risotto and asparagus. My wife had a stuffed shrimp and filet surf and turf. Both were amazing. Service was spot on. The view of back bay is fantastic as well.

I returned twice to Legal Seafoods in my weekend in Boston. I live in Minnesota now, and although there are two restaurants there with fresh seafood, they don't have anything like the range of choices that Legal Seafoods has. Legals has many types of fish, and choices of how it is prepared. I have never been disappointed. Also, I am fond of their Key Lime Pie, which is traditional Florida style, without being "improved".

We walked to the restaurant with just an address to find it. We did not see any sign outside not could we find the address. We finally asked and were told it was in the Mall. Opentable directions said the cross street is Dartmouth but I don't think it crosses Huntington. We did manage to find it and had a very good dinner.

Went for dinner on a Saturday night at 7 PM -- it was busy. Our server was extremely busy, but very pleasant; service was slower than usual but acceptable. Two of the oyster selections on the menu were not available. The crab cake appetizer, one of our favorites, was just OK and only moderately flavorful. The special cocktail of the night, a bloody mary, was ordinary. This Legal is one of our favorite restaurants for a quick and reliable dinner -- but our experiences there lately have been not up to usual standards.

We chose this restaurant for lunch while on a cruise for a lobster meal and we were definitely not disappointed. The lobster was done beautifully - tender and succulent, and the shells were cracked making it easy to handle. The service was prompt and courteous. We are not Boston residents, but this is a must for anyone who lives in, or is visiting Boston, and we will definitely go to Legal Sea Foods in our area.

We were very excited to try this place everyone was raving about. We got seated promptly at lunchtime but then it took a while for the server to approach us. She was unfriendly and short with us. On to the food...it was good. I would not say great but it definitely was good. The clam chowder was probably the best thing we had ordered. I will say the crab cake was full of crab meat and not some second rate stuffing or filler...Overall it was a good experience, but I won't be rushing back there!

The food was solid as always (but not particularly inventive) but service was ridiculously slow. We sat for over 30 minutes after our appetizers were cleared and eventually the manager, who observed us sitting there without our entrees, came over and stated that he would bring the food out for us. Even that took some time. This place is not recommended if you have plans after dinner, since dinner will take much longer than you thought.

We were told this is a great seafood restaurant in Boston. I dare say I hope they can do better in Boston. This L.S. was as plain as plain can be. Absolutely no atmosphere. It was brightly lit which is okay at lunch but not okay at dinner. Lighting creates mood and ambiance. I felt their menu was also blah. Nothing innovative about it. I don't recall seeing any sauces listed on it either which I feel separates the boys from the men. Otherwise, the haddock fish I ordered had a breadcrumb coating and was moist and fresh. The sides were simple - steamed broccoli and a baked potato. I did like the food it just wasn't anything "special".

It was pretty good. The appetizers were by far the best of the meal. The shrimp wontons were delicious. The calamari with peppers was a great combination of flavors, and I enjoyed it very much. Both dishes were visually appealing as well. The exterior of the crab cake was gorgeous, and the crab was lovely, but it was rather tasteless and once you got to the center, the breading was gluey. The sockeye salmon was fine. No complaints, but not what I expect from Legal Seafood.

We have eaten at Legal Seafood several times - not this location. The restaurant smelled very strongly of raw seafood. Our waiter served drinks and our appetizer in a timely manner, but then it went downhill. They were out of several menu items we ordered, so those had to be re selected and it took forever to get our food. Manager did comp our food which was good when we finally got it. Disappointing birthday celebration dinner. Not our usual LS experience.
