A word from Legal Sea Foods - 7th Street
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. A bipartisan favorite, we have occupied the nation’s capital since 1995, anchored across from the Verizon Center and around the corner from the International Spy Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Chinatown.

Make waves at our racetrack-shaped bar or sup on seafood underneath the hull-like ceiling in our restaurant’s main dining room. Either way, be presidential and order a cup of our New England Clam Chowder; it’s been served at every Inauguration since 1981. Other accolades include being named “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” in a nationwide poll by USA Today (2013).

We had reservations for dinner here before a concert at the Verizon Center. We were seated promptly. The tables were all extremely close together, and the noise level was so high it was difficult to carry on much of a conversation. Our server was attentive and efficient. There were good selections on the menu, and we did enjoy our meals.

Our waiter was delightfully attentive and conversational with a great sense of humor and keen mind. My three relatives enjoyed their entrees, but my fire-grilled salmon was flavorless, and the brown rice (my selection) was also flavorless. The spinach was fine. The chocolate pudding cake was outstanding and was enough between two of us. We appreciated the quietly located table.

Avoid chefs sampler unless you like dry fish with no taste...the shrimp and scallops portion were extremely tasty however and that saved the dish..the salmon was tasteless and the tuna portion wasnt eatable. Our server was top notch however and made for a wonderful experience and we will return, but not for the fish entrees. Crab cakes were good also.

I would have given 5 stars for the experience all the way around; however, there were just a few minor things that kept this review just shy of perfect! Service was good, food was really good except for the sides...they left a little something to be desired but overall this was a fantastic dining experience and the crab legs are huge and so delicious!!! A real draw! Also, I was really impressed with the oysters here (raw and baked) I will go back just for those! Handsome little waiter too...he caught on fast and made the evening pretty pleasant. I will go back...and soon!

Made reservations on Open Table for 13 people. Knowing we have a big group, we left our hotel early and arrived 10 minutes before our reservations. We were left waiting in the tiny lobby for another 15 minutes while they seat other groups. I peeked around the corner and saw a table all set up for our group, yet the hostesses never came to seat us. I finally had to come and ask if our table was ready. They nodded and took us to our table. Food was ok. Scallops were tiny. Service was so so. Waitress never came by at the end to ask if we want desserts. Our bill came under $500, and we left an $80 tip. We came to Legal Seafood to celebrate our family reunion dinner and left disappointed. NOT recommended.

The 3 meals were not up to Legal Seafood Standards. Two meals "Chef's Choice Grilled Seafood " $28 ea were tasteless and seemed more like steamed than grilled . The plating must have been done by the bus person. The other meal Spicy Fish and chips was as if it was being kept warm in an oven somewhere soggy breading not crisp fish or chips. The waitress was less than interested in providing above average service. This was at 7:30 on a Friday night. Lots of empty tables there was no need for a reservation. Upon leaving the Mgr? and Hostess did not even look up and thank us as we passed them going out the door right next to them. I previously lived in Boston and always enjoyed Legal Seafood this wasn't it. Would not return or recommend!!

Limited ordinary menu. I expected better from a seafood restaurant. I had a seafood casserole that was overdone and dry. There were no premium fish species on the menu. Things like tilapia, catfish, tuna and salmon belong on the menu at a TGI Fridays. For a similar price and nearby neighborhood McCormick & Schmick at 9th St NW is a better atmosphere, better selection and better quality.

My wife and I felt that because we walk in with open table reservation we were treated like tourist. Plenty of available tables but yet was seated by the kitchen. When ask to be moved we were denied. It was so obvious that the good tables were being reserve for the locals. The temperature was 85 F at a minimum. Noise level threw the roof. Next time I dine while out of town at a so called high end restaurant I will call and make the reservations and not use Open table.
