A word from Legal Harborside – Floor 2 Dining Room
The second floor dining room at Legal Harborside offers a focused menu of cuisine prepared with sensible creativity for celebratory eating and private dining events. Complementing the dinner menu is an aperitif cocktail list and a unique selection of artisan wines, each produced from a specific terroir representing some of the world’s most classic regions, from family-owned vineyards. Each of the vintages is unique to Legal Harborside within Massachusetts. The design of the restaurant takes full advantage of the harbor view and is reminiscent of a ship’s dining room, with a curved rosewood ceiling and glossy black columns inspired by the mast of a ship that anchor the space. A lounge off the grand spiral staircase and two oceanfront rooms, with recessing doors for privacy, are available for special events. An intimate patio with outdoor fireplace offers dining and drinks in-season. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "All the seats on the second floor have a beautiful view of the water. The fish is fresh and perfectly prepared and the service is perfect. Our party of three was delighted."

  • "The only problem was a snotty bartender on the fine dining level. A cocktail was listed on the menu. I asked for it and she glibly said, "I don't know how to do that." Other than that, this was a wonderful dining experience where my party of 5 and I sat for 2 1/2 hours taking in a leisurely paced dinner (apps, entrees, dessert and drinks)."

  • "The seafood tower appetizer is excellent and my fellow diner was quite happy with the filet mignon, so don't shy away from the meat just because it's a seafood place."

  • "The food and service were excellent. The view of Boston harbor is spectacular. It was perfect all the way around."

  • "Stunning location overlooking Boston Harbor. Fresh fish, spectacular shrimp cocktail, solid wine list. Great going during a week night as less crowded. Second floor venue brings Legal Seafood's offerings to the next level."

  • "When we arrived we were greeted by very polite people at the restaurant. Had reservations, and were able to be seated at the 2nd floor or the restaurant with a seat by the window. It was a special occasion for us. The meal, the service and the view of Boston Harbor with all the lights from Logan Airport made it a very special night for us."

  • "Food was good but the menu is very limited. Chain restaurant but not all offerings other restaurants in the chain are available."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Good food. Not as romantic as I had hoped. Table for two was a table for four in the middle of the dining room instead of a window booth as I would have preferred. Waiter was decently attentive but not as I would have expected."

  • "The food was quite good. The food merited the upscale price, but it is loud. Our table had a partition between us and a party. We could not see the party at all but it felt like we were part of it based on the noise. The area is great, but the view is average for that area. The waiter had great knowledge of the food. I invited guests from out of town and I know that they felt that I had treated them very well that night, but they did not go home with a better feel of Boston."

  • "Very interesting wine list. Raw oysters at their best."

  • "I took a colleague here for a dinner meeting. The atmosphere was perfect for talking business or personal. Food was delicious and the service was excellent. We went on a Monday night so it was not too busy. There was deck dining, but we chose not to sit up there. We found out later that it was heated so we could have sat up there."

  • "Nice room...elegant yet cozy. No Calf. chardonnay by the glass...odd variety of breads, but no Italian/French. Salads were big but nothing special. Shrimp cocktail was tough. Waited about 1 hour for entrees after salad. Halibut was dry and over-cooked. They brought out free dessert to commemorate our anniversary, but my husband was already in the car. We were frustrated by the delays and couldn't wait to get out of there. They apologized for the delays and took the entrees off the bill. We will continue to frequent the regular Legal's restaurants 3-5 times monthly, but won't be going back to this one."

  • "Legal's Harborside, 2nd Floor Dining Room is a perfect place to dine. I requested a table with a view if possible and we we're treated to one with a direct view of the harbor. That set the tone for an evening of delicious cuisine and good wines. The outstanding dish was the abalone entree--it was the most delicious we've tasted in quite a while. So tender and delicious. The king crab cakes were also well prepared and filling. All the seafood is always so fresh --the only reason I did not give five stars was because my halibut though well seasoned was overdone. Our server was excellent and attentive while allowing us to dine and visit with our friends!"

  • "Very mixed review. Food was good although not great- service was poor/fair. Had to request numerous times for drinks including wine and after dinner coffee service. No consistency between weight staff. Main waiter did not know menu well."

  • "What a surprisingly wonderful meal at a great venue - service was excellent - lovely views of the harbor and the best swordfish one can imagine. Plan to spend $75 - 90 per person without cocktails or wine for appetizer, main and dessert - well worth it."

  • "Went to Legal for dinner with some business colleagues. Waiter brought some different types of bread out that were very good. Had a few appetizer: calamari and a bowl of clam chowder. I thought the calamari was a very small portion, shared between three guys, and the chowda was fine. Both were pretty good but I've tasted better. My co workers each had crab cakes for dinner and seemed to like them. I actually had the scallop dinner which was 3 scallops, a type of pasta and some salad. For the money I though I'd get more seafood - nope you're in Boston. Food tasted fine it's just the cost vs what you get. The service was very good."

  • "Although we had eaten at the Legal Harborside before and had a great experience, this time it was even better. The food is always superb--creative and elegantly presented. Our waitperson, Merideth, gave us just the right amount of attention--appearing when we needed help and leaving us alone, but not neglected, when we wanted to enjoy a drink or linger over an appetizer. And Corey, the sommalier, gave excellent advice on the wines, providing just the right beverage to accompany our food selections. We felt treated quite special, a feeling that will linger even longer than the memory of the great food, and that will bring us back on many future occasions."

  • "Went with a group of colleagues. Great food and service on the second floor. White cloth top notch service there. Bar scene was cool on the third floor. The third floor is great to hang out in if you arrive early before your party arrives. Amazing view of the harbor. Pricey all around but worth it. Got the filet mignon even though it's a seafood restaurant. Best I've ever had. Yes, I recommend."

  • "As above, a great experience -- excellent service!! / With one exception -- The Wine List -- the print was so small you could barely read it."

  • "Had a wonderful time -- all staff very attentive. We asked for some changes to a special menu, was a Valentine's set menu -- we had read abotu a wine pairing menu that was not exactly what the restaurant was offering that evening but they made adjustments to suit our request. They were awesome. They did wine pairings with each course and explained in detail all about how the wine suited the serving/offering. Really made our trip to Boston extraordinary -- been a couple of wks so I regret cannot remember names of the top notch service professionals who treated us, but we were a 7:00 pm seating on the 2nd floor, party of two, Tom & Teresa Sansom"

  • "My dinner was one of the best I ever had at a restaurant. My husband and I was lucky to have their special of the swordfish on the bone. This is a must have entree. It's not on the menu all the time, but when it is it goes fast. If you miss out you are disappointed. This was a third time dining on the 2nd floor. Every time we had great service, great food, and a beautiful view of the harbor."

  • "We brought a special friend from Italy who just loves Legal Seafood. So we thought the Harborside LS would be a great choice, and it was. However, she wanted a boiled /steamed lobster and we selected the 2nd floor waterview. They do not serve thie on the upstairs menu. The fantastic server asked the chef if he would accomidate our guests request and he did!!!!!! It was great! I had the fabulous scallops and my husband had the best fish he has ever had.... swordfish chop on the bone. Absolutely a great night and a great meal!"

  • "Our family goes to Legal Seafood on a regular basis ( Burlington, Newton). The ambiance at this place was high end yet very friendly. The menu was limited compared to other LS yet delicious. They made simpler, and smaller portions for kids. The view of the harbor is spectacular. Service was OUTSTANDING. We came in very early with our large party of 8. Every staff person was attentive and really seemed to care that our experience was a pleasant one. My son forgot to tell the waiter to wrap up what was left of his meal and when we mentioned something in passing, they said that they would see what they could do. 10 minutes later the manager came out with a brand new full meal wrapped up to go for him! Outstanding!"

  • "My fiance and I spent our Valentine's day at Legal Harborside on the 2nd floor. We actually had our second date on the third floor, so it was symbolic that we returned for our first Valentine's day. I was expecting great service given the special occasion, but I was unimpressed with our waiter. He as uninterested. He also gave me a butter knife for my filet mignon and didn't even attempt to find a sharper knife for my steak. I suspect that he may have been exceptionally bad for the location, and so I dont know how much to generalize to other servers. The food was excellent as usual for Legal. We decided to go with the a la carte options. The steak was very nice and my fiance enjoyed the california abalone (nice portion size)."

  • "Being on the second floor was a truly amazing restaurant experience. The servers were ready with suggestions and very attentive without sticking around too long. We were told all about the foods, oysters, wine list and the rest of our food. The food was incredible, probably the best oysters I have ever eaten. The foie gras was incredible. They serve it in two entirely different ways and it was beyond extravagant. We just kept saying how wonderful the whole experience was. We had a reservation that night and we hardly had to wait, we arrived about an hour early, but instead of being told to wait we were directed to the bar where we enjoyed just sitting and talking and ordered a couple of appetizers. Truly one of the best dining experiences."

  • "As longstanding fans of Legal Seafood, we expected quality food but wondered if a fine dining experience was in the cards. The second floor Dining Room isn't fussy but it is a definite "outing" and beautifully fit the Valentine's Day evening for everyone we spotted in the restaurant. Service was attentive without being intrusive and the menu options were excellent. And yes, great seafood was available in plentitude!"

  • "I dislike legal seafood. It's tired, with a completely unimaginative menu, a chain that is sprinkled across boston catering almost exclusively to tourists. So I was VERY skeptical when friends recommended it, regardless, we went along. The second floor at the Harborside is NOT your average Legals. Menu was very interetsing. Food was prepared and plated beautifully. Wine list was very good( I assume the same winelist as downstairs). decor is contemporary and dim but not dark, floor to ceiling windows provide great harbor views. service was attentive but not intrusive. Cost was moderate at a hundred a piece including wine, coffee dessert. If you're in the seaport area, upstairs at legals is an excellent option."

  • "We enjoyed our first visit to Legal's Harborside. The ambiance (2nd floor) had a great feel to it...sleek, stylish with a good view of the harbor. We had a pre-dinner drink in the roof top bar (enclosed in winter) ..which was fun and I imagine is a great spot for drinks in the summer. The staff on both levels were friendly and welcoming even though it was an extremely busy night. Our main meals and dessert (chocolate mousse cake!) were very good...the appetizers were average. I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "This place is always a special occasion. Just watch out for the police waiting to jump on confused drivers. I barely escaped a $105 ticket for making a U-turn in front of the restaurant."

  • "We have dined in this room several times. Always a very good meal but somehow the dinner just was not great. Now, with a new menu, Legal has hit the mark!"

  • "I hosted 7 of my colleagues for a business dinner two nights ago. We have enjoyed eating at other Legal Seafood locations, but this was a cut above the usual good experience and we were all blown away. You pay a little more, you get great food and great service, and you walk away smiling big time. The key with the restaurant was attention to detail - timing, plating presentation, beverage options - really special! Try this place when you get a chance - you will be glad you did. Also check out the bar on the floor above the restaurant - a Seaport district fave with great views and elegant atmosphere."

  • "Great meal & experience. Brought a Japanese client to dinner, had oysters & butter-poached lobsters, both of which were great. Our waiter was even able to recommend a red wine that went really well with the meal."

  • "Was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the upscale dinning with very attentive wait staff! Had booked our aniversary dinner with that idea, but was even more impressed! Had four apps and a bottle of Sav Blanc (New Zealand). Wonderful view of Boston harbour!"

  • "We had a lovely dinner at Legal's Harborside's 2nd floor dining room. The ambiance and view were exquisite, the service was excellent (attentive without being over-bearing) and the food was AMAZING. The chef's tasting menu was a treat of wonderfully balanced flavors and textures, and the accompanying wines paired beautifully with the courses. We're looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "We dined in the second floor dining room. The food was fresh and prepared perfectly. The waiter was friendly, welcoming and unpretentious. It was a great experience overall. The 3rd floor cocktail lounge is a beautiful setting with great a great view of the harbor. It was a bit crowded and loud and we couldn't get near the bar so we enjoyed cocktails on the second floor while waiting for our table. This worked out better for us as we were celebrating a special occasion with another couple and were looking for more of a quiet setting. I would definitely return. Next time I'm in the area, I look forward to experiencing the more casual setting of the 1st floor."
